Pit Stories: Playing For Traffic
Usually the pit mayhem comes from the crowd, but sometimes the band decides to get involved - even while the performance is still going on!
For this week's Pit Story, Steph K. of London outfit Immortal Machinery shares this tale of a front man who decided to vacate the stage and even the venue to belt out a song in the middle of traffic:
One time my band, Immortal Machinery, were hosting a show in New Cross, east London. We'd booked an act from Wales who had, shall we say, a bit of a wild reputation. During a guitar solo their frontman, decked out in red and yellow warpaint, leaped off the stage and onto the nearest table. Still soloing and never missing a beat, he ran across it (somehow managing not to knock anyone's pint over) and ran out of the venue.
The crowd followed him outside, where we found him kneeling in the middle of the road, playing as cars swerved around him honking their horns. He got up, returned to the stage and finished the song like nothing had happened. This is a man who risked his life for petrol money and free beer. I think it's safe to say that the spirit of rock'n'roll is alive and well in this guitar-playing welder from the valleys.
What's the craziest thing you've seen a front man do during a metal show? Let us know in the comments section!
You can also hear the Immortal Machinery song "Screaming Tonight" - included on the recent Roxeavy metal compilation - in the player below. If you dig the sound, be sure to check out the full "At The End Of Time" album over at Bandcamp here. More...

Horsehunter Explodes Onto The Doom Scene
The new age of doom is upon us as Horsehunter's "Caged In Flesh" will drop next month via Magnetic Eye Records.

To give you a taste of what to expect, we just premiered the title track online, and also checked in with guitarist Dan Harris to discuss the doom metal scene in Australia, how Horsehunter went from Iron Maiden cover band to a devastating original outfit, and the many travails of recording a full-length album. Maestus Posts Full Album Online
Pacific Northwestern blackened doom collective Maestus now unveils the forlorn fruit of debut full-length, "Voir Dire."
Comprised of Stephen Parker (Arkhum) and Jarrod Hyam (Sophos), with Kenneth Parker (Grst) and Cordell Cline (Dimensionless) recently enlisted to fulfill rhythm duties, "Voir Dire" was engineered and mixed during the Summer months of 2014 at Parker's own The Wilderness Studio and delivers seventy-four minutes of heart-blistering grimness.
Comments the band, "Our residence in the often bleak Pacific Northwest helped shape the sound that reflects the band's name, a Latin word meaning 'sorrowful.' Voir Dire leads listeners down a path which forces one to address their own inner turmoil."
You can stream the entire "Voire Dire" album in the SoundCloud player below, courtesy of Decibel Magazine. Released via a joint venture between Domestic Genocide Records and Glossolalia Records, "Voir Dire" follows the release of the band's 2013-issued "Scarlet Lakes" EP. More...

About this project Augusto stated: “It’s just four friends playing what makes us feel good and I really hope you all enjoy it. Really looking forward to making a full length and seeing everyone on tour soon. The idea for this project came together right after me and Trivium parted ways… All of us in Corrosion were friends already so it just felt right to start it up. I was an Insense fan, so going for a long shot them being all the way in Norway and I wanted to play in a band with them. We talked through emails and made it happen.
"We just wrote three songs and felt like it was a good introduction and a full length will come eventually. What you hear on this EP is just what we felt at the time and that’s what came out and it felt pretty damn good and clicked right away.” More...

Melted Space Signs With Sensory Records
Orchestral/operatic metal collective Melted Space is proud to announce a newly-signed worldwide deal with Sensory Records for the late Summer release of the outfit's sophomore full-length opus, "The Great Lie." The following press release was issued about the band:
"Melted Space is the creation of French composer Pierre le Pape, who bears a master degree in classical music and movie scores, here creating a modern opera that takes over the classical codes, including numerous characters, scenario, powerful orchestral arrangements and varied ambiances, all set to skilled and catchy songwriting and amazing casting.
"The new Melted Space album, 'The Great Lie,' will feature fourteen prestigious and unexpected singers, joined by seven talented guest musicians and The City of Prague Philarmonic Orchestra. Together, this cast will create an epic saga as powerful as moving. By mixing the tradition of the classic opera with infectious heavy metal, The Great Lie promises to set a new milestone in the genre.
"Initiated by pianist and composer Pierre Le Pape, from the city of Troyes, Melted Space stands as the first French metal opera boasting the air of a huge choral fresco, bringing together numerous female and male singers and musicians from the international metal scene. Powerful metal meets the refined essence of movie soundtrack-style movements, and through the embracing of various influences, citing Within Temptation and Dimmu Borgir, the band has seduced a wide audience. Melted Space's music is inspired by traditional symphonic metal but is also rooted in the black and death metal scenes, each coming to play depending on what action that is taking place within the story that Pierre is telling us. Corpse Garden Announces Second Album
Corpse Garden, the five-piece death metal outfit from Costa Rica, is proud to announce that second album "Entheogen" will be released this May 15th through both Russian label Satanath Records and German label RTM Productions.
The title "Entheogen" refers to a chemical substance that is often used in religious or spiritual practices to aim for transcendence. Vocalist Felipe Tencio elaborates further:
“We think [Entheogen] is what really describes the music and the sound we accomplished with this album as well as it being an analogy for the transformation the band suffered, and the lyrical concept. The lyrics go through each one of the seven operations of alchemical transformation and Carl Jung's studies on Individuation.”
Satanath Records Owner Aleksey had this to say on the label’s newest signing: “I like this young and talented band. Their music is mysterious and meets all the canons of the style that I love. The album spews out energetic and technical death metal with a delicious bass in the spirit of old school death metal. Yet Corpse Garden do not fixate on the [old school vibe] and thereby retain their originality. Verdict: It is impossible not to release!” More...
