Metal Bands Lose Out To Halestorm At The 55th Annual Grammy Awards

It probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise that metal isn't well represented in the annual Grammy awards, with possibly our most noticeable wins coming from Slayer in 2007 and 2008.
This year wasn't an exception, and unfortunately there isn't much wiggle room for actual metal acts to win when hard rock and heavy metal are lumped into a single category.
None of our "Best of 2012" winners here at Metalunderground.com made the nominations, and fully heavy bands only managed to get into the "Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance" category at the Grammy's this year. The nominees were:
"Love Bites (So Do I)" – Halestorm
"I'm Alive" – Anthrax
"Blood Brothers" (live) – Iron Maiden
"Ghost Walking" – Lamb of God
"No Reflection" – Marilyn Manson
"Whose Life (Is It Anyways?)" – Megadeth
In a move that will likely leave metal fans scratching their heads, but will please fans of the mainstream, Halestorm took home the win for "Love Bites (So Do I)." Footage of the event and Halestorm's acceptance of the Grammy can be viewed below, courtesy of Artisan News Service.
In other news of interest to hard rock and metal lovers, Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails snagged a Grammy win for "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" soundtrack in the category of "Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media," along with a related win for "Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package" for the same soundtrack.

The grammys are a joke and always have been. What do you see?
Best rap artist.
Best rap album.
Best rap song.....etc...etc...etc...
Same with r&b and country.
Identical to American radio...it's all what the record companies WANT you to listen to.
Sorry but when the award for best vocal goes to someone who's auto tuned. Half that award should go to the computer. There's just no credibility....never was.
Perhaps Oz and Cynic can enlighten me but I've heard non American radio is much more open to metal. In MN, I think we still have 93x....last time I listened was five years ago and they were still playing the same crap from a decade ago. Godsmack, Crue, Black album Metallica...etc...
Oh and Hale...WHO???

no surprise here, and the golden god awards lets face it aint that much of an upgrade from the grammys or the american music awards.
award shows aren 't suppose to be attended or recognized by non mainstream bands anyhow.
halestorm got crap for winning this from the metal community but it's not like it's there fault.
dunno why lamb of god attended the grammys this year, thought that was pretty stupid, there's lots to do in LA, and they attend the f@cking grammys?
man/metalcard revoaked.

The Grammys are bought. Period. This is not an insult, it's a fact. It should come as news to no one. Why the hell people even pay attention to a bunch of elites scratching each other's back is beyond me. Events like the Grammys justify the downfall of the entire recording industry.

The Grammys would only be useful if they actually brought some curious music lovers to the metal fold... But from the beginning, this notion has been a joke. With the reputation of the Grammy Awards being what it is, I can't imagine any performer with actual qualifications wanting this kind of recognition.
Pertaining to the last line: I don't know how much metal influences Trent Reznor at this juncture but at least someone with some skill and refined taste won something. The man is a great song writer, multi-instrumentalist and lyricist (the "With Teeth" album is exempt from that statement). But for every deserving artist you get hoards of winners whose entire career is based on hooks and big, frequent choruses.
Mediocrity and accessibility before innovation and quality.

Way to jump on the hate bandwagon. Goddamn. You have an obvious and deep-seeded hatred for them, but really. Really. They've got national recognition, like them or not, and have achieved something that neither you nor I have. Give them that and let them have their 15 without pissing all over their parade.

I have nothing against the 'winning' band, whatever the hell theyre called...never heard of em, and am not in any hurry to listen
My point of contention lies with the incredibly misappropriated and fvcking CLUELESS 'inclusion' of metal music in this politically arbitrary, pop-culture, hollywood fvcking puppet show
see the difference? ;)

It's like rich vs. poor. The famous win by default. As soon as anyone else enters, it just becomes a self-running joke. Somewhat sad, but I can live with it.

Lol, what a joke. One category for all of metal and hard rock? They should just pull the metal bands altogether if they're not going to try.
I mean - it's not even Halestorm winning, because their song actually was a catchy track that I can see judges picking over some Iron Maiden live song. It's just that if the nominees are based on sales then hard rock will always dominate the category.
