Baltimore-based duo Darsombra has been slaving away for the past several months booking the most extensive tour excursion in the band’s history, and this week the final few shows are being confirmed. The following press release was issued about the tour:
"Set to begin in just two-and-a-half weeks, on February 28th, Darsombra will take their eclectic and nearly unclassifiable brew of ambient/avant-born noise/drone/psyche rock and synchronized visual performance out to nearly sixty American cities on the self-booked two-month trek! As always, the layered, looped riffs of bassist/guitarist/vocalist Brian Daniloski (ex-Meatjack, Trephine) will be transformed and looped over themselves in an ever-morphing flow of pedal effects and processors, building each song into epic, multi-layered soundscapes.
"Daniloski’s ill wall of sound be paired with cohort Ann Everton’s synchronized visual display, the artist’s organically-influenced backdrops and psychedelic patterns being broadcast directly onto the duo as they perform together, with Everton also supplying more synths, keys and other effects to the actual audio delivery of each performance more than ever on this tour." After two years in pre-production, the Virginia-based metal band While Heaven Wept has entered the studio to begin recording the first of two brand new albums, entitled "Suspended At Aphelion," which will be released via Nuclear Blast Records in late 2014.
Founding guitarist and primary composer Tom Phillips comments: “If (2011’s) 'Fear Of Infinity' was our 'Caress Of Steel,' 'Suspended At Aphelion' is without question our '2112' – and anyone familiar with the stories behind those Rush albums will understand that where we’re coming from is very similar both musically and circumstantially. 'Suspended At Aphelion' is the culmination of 25 years and embodies everything that While Heaven Wept has ever represented – yet so much more; it’s everything we’ve got to give in our hearts and souls.”
He continues: “The album really is, quite simply, the greatest epic in our canon in that it is a single, 40+ minute monolith divided into 11 parts – in the tradition of the aforementioned '2112' and our own ‘The Furthest Shore,’ ‘Finality,’ and ‘Thus With A Kiss I Die,’ amongst others.
"Yet, musically…while clearly this is While Heaven Wept …it’s very much beyond anything else we’ve ever done…VERY progressive, but in a harmonic sense more than the technical. The bottom line is, if you enjoyed those aforementioned 'mini-epics' – or the 'Vast Oceans Lachrymose' album for that matter – then this is the elevation and evolution several years beyond those. We’ve approached this one as if it were to be our last – so again, it’s everything we’ve got!” More...

Sunshine State psychedelic death metal ensemble Orbweaver is readying to kick off a twenty-date stretch of roadside assaults next week.
The live abrasions will commence on Tuesday, February 18th with a special hometown kick off show before the band joins fellow Floridian sludge assassins Shroud Eater for a westward run of audio debauchery.
Offers guitarist/vocalist Randy Piro (ex-Hate Eternal, Gigan): "We are really excited to team up with our good friends and riff lords, Shroud Eater, for the slow invasion of the Orb-Eaters...a tour which will take us from our homes in Miami, to the West Coast and back. Brains will be twisted, senses warped, and a mysterious trail of green slime will be left in our wake. May the strangers be listening!"

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian is taking his “Speaking Words” tour on the road in North America, beginning in Chicago, IL on February 20th. The following press release was issued about the tour and Ian seeking funds to release a live DVD:
"Speaking Words isn’t just a hilariously raucous story-telling experience, but an honest look at the insane life that Scott Ian has led for the last 31 years, the people he’s met, and the events that coincide. During each show, Scott Ian will take part in a special Q&A session with the audience. Fans also have the opportunity to take part in a unique VIP Pack experience. S
"Based on the resounding success of the U.K. leg of the tour not only was the decision made to continue the tour, but also to create a DVD of Scott Ian's Glasgow performance.
"The footage has been captured, but now comes the tough part—editing it all together and turning it into a high-quality product. Putting together a DVD like this requires funding, and Scott is asking his loyal fans around the world to help finance the project, by way of a Pledge Music campaign.
"Visit the 'Speaking Words in Glasgow' Pledge Music page and donate to make this DVD a reality, right here. Also, learn about the truly awesome pledge points ranging from $10-$25,000: like $1,000 for an LA-area vinyl shopping trip, $2,500 to catch a NY Yankees game with Scott, $5,000 for Scott to play on your band’s next record, $12,500 for Scott’s Custom “Zombie Killer” signed guitar, and beyond! Sepulchral Productions has set March 28th as the international release date for Neige Et Noirceur's "Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques."
The band's fourth full-length sees a return to raw, ice-cold, and ambient black metal - along a few new twists along the way. While mainman Spiritus' style remains instantly recognizable, "Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques" is also probably the closest the band has ever come to the "classic" sound of the early '90s, courtesy of epic and melancholic riffs and keyboard parts.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques
2. Future Torture
3. Écho Des Abysses
4. Le Portail de Kadath
5. La Marche Des Astres Noirs
6. Les Cavernes de Glace I

Less than two years after debut EP "Me From Myself, To Banish," French hardcore/crust outfit Direwolves is releasing first full-length "Aegri Somnia" on March 31st.
The record was mastered at New Alliance East, while the artwork is once again handled by Fortifem. "Aegri Somnia" will be released on gatefold LP and CD via Throatruiner Records, and a video teaser is available below. The record label also comments:
"Formed in 2011 in Lorient, western France, Direwolves rapidly stood out from the pack by combining both the melodic and the heavy aspects of punk hardcore. Their first full-length 'Aegri Somnia' not only follows the path of their EP 'Me From Myself, To Banish' (2012) but also enhances the spectrum of their sound, browsing through a large range of sub-genres while avoiding their respective clichés. Songs such as 'Holy Treason' or 'Face The Facts' show the band at their most vehement, colliding unstoppable drumming with heavily metallic-influenced riffs while the end of the record explores more emotionally-charged post-metallic soundscapes. With their constant will to remain straightforward but diversified, Direwolves deliver eleven highly epic and passionate anthems, condensing everything you could expect from a great hardcore LP in 2014." Mire will release "Inward/Outward" on March 18th to follow a 2010 self-titled EP. The Montreal band has also now announced it will be performing on Quebec's Musique Plus channel for the show Top Musique. Vocalist JP LaChapelle comments:
"Musique Plus has always crossed my mind in terms of establishing myself as a public figure, even when I wanted to become a VJ Host as a kid. I didn't expect to be on air behind the microphone growing up, but it's great to grow out of some stereotypes. Now I understand that every stroke of the brush gets us closer to popping up on the map in terms of people's interest. So it's a real honor to get invited for a live interview, and we look forward to delivering a kick-in-the-chest performance at 6pm on Friday Feb 28th. Turn up the volume on your TV."
Two years in the making, "Inward/Outward" is a 10 track reflection of ideas flying every which way around the recording studio, ranging from cognitive science to a military stint in Afghanistan by guitarist Dave Massicotte.
“We created this with our guts and have dared to explore a less common style of metal where the music is less obvious and sometimes requires the individual to have more than one listen before being able to grasp and really appreciate every musical element,” says guitarist Massicotte of the album. “From big chunky guitar to light piano melody, every song will take you on a different journey and set of emotions." "Throughout the years I’ve written for and toured in several bands, but now finally have one creative outlet exclusive to my artistic endeavors. With our debut album Oracles, we’ve crafted a piece a work which is intended to be listened to as a whole; with a deeper spirit present in the medium beyond the borders defined by the music itself. Both Chris Lewis and I have been lifelong fans of incredibly heavy and slow music in particular. I Am Heresy has released a first official music video for the song "The March Of The Black Earth," taken from the Century Media debut album "Thy Will," due out March 3rd in Europe/Australia/NZ and March 4th in North America.
Watch the clip below, courtesy of Cvltnation.com. Vocalist Nathan Gray also comments:
"March Of Black Earth, through symbolism and archetype, stands in defiance of the standard views of 'good' and 'evil.' It speaks of human exploration into a life without fear or reverence for imaginary deities, who are bent on suppressing our most natural desires. If those deities deem a lust for knowledge, freedom of our carnal self, and disobedience to be sinful, then let us become the best sinners we can be!"
He went on to say, "Each suffering character in the video represents self-sacrifice, killing what is left of our self-expression. The ominous beast in the plague mask represents each characters individual oppression. Their freedom is personified by the archetype Belial, or Baal, ('without a master') who represents an infernal innocence, freedom, and mockery of self imposed slavery. Hear the call... Free yourself from the bondage of self-denial, and accept the gift of sin!" More...

After the departure of Tumi Snær Gíslason last year, Iceland's Ophidian I has now announced Stefán Ari Stefánsson of Gone Postal as the band's new permanent drummer.
Stefán “Stebbi” Ari Stefánsson has been sitting behind the kit during the last few months as a live member and is now working with the band on new material tentatively scheduled for release later this year. The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Since 2010, the Icelandic technical death metal ensemble Ophidian I have cut a swathe through the Icelandic metal scene. Fusing together a myriad of influences such as Necrophagist, Obscura and the Faceless, Ophidian I has crafted an intricate yet ferocious breed of death metal, combining sophisticated songwriting with lyrical themes such as eschatology and the darker sides of human history.
"In June, 2011, Ophidian I started work on their debut album Solvet Saeclum. Recorded in Studio Sýrland and produced by Jóhann Ingi of Studio Fossland, Solvet Saeclum was released in June 2012 through SFC Records. Met with positive reviews from critics and fans alike, Ophidian I had gained a lot of momentum. This combined with limitless passion and great ambition, Ophidian I aim to further refine their music and widen their audience."
Dallas, Texas-based blackened doom congregation Dead To A Dying World will enter the studio in the near future to record the band's sophomore full-length release.
The band is preparing to record this time with sonic decimation engineer, Billy Anderson (Sleep, Neurosis, Melvins). The new opus, bearing the title "Litany," has enough material planned to fill two full 12" platters. "Litany" will also feature collaborations and contributions from members of Sabbath Assembly, Pinkish Black, and Ecocide. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Litany was developed with the themes of isolation, insanity, and reflection in a time of global devastation, evoking the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth; this new chapter reveals the aftermath of the self-titled release. From the ashes, we find three warring clans who personify each theme and embody their own unique struggles, each clan has sought their own way of survival in an unforgiving world, some in search for higher meaning, and others through methods of irrevocable cruelty. These concepts are explored individually and finally together, representing by synecdoche, our own struggles in modern society.
"Founded in 2010, Dead To A Dying World incorporates cello, violins, and upright bass elements and more into a morose but intimidating end-time style of doom, with a putrid, blackened weight to their waves of slow-motion, Apocalypse inspired doom dirges and a harrowing double-vocalist approach. With several tours in different regions of the countries since inception, the band's self-titled 2xLP album was produced by Phillip Cope of Kylesa and released via Tofu Carnage Records in 2011."
Season of Mist has issued the following announcement about Ghost Brigade recording an upcoming album:

Iron Bonehead Productions today sets March 31st as the international release date for Heresiarch's "Wælwulf" 7" EP, which will be the band's first new record since 2011's "Hammer of Intransigence." The following press release was issued about the EP:
"At three doomed 'n' deadly songs, Wælwulf displays that Heresiarch have lost none of their purifying fire in the interim; if anything, their savagery has intensified to almost uncomfortable levels. But within their perpetually churning, gnawing rush of gnarled sound lies nuance and nous that few within the wider 'war metal' ranks can match - and Wælwulf is the latest, most devastating proof."
My Enemyz Blood has created its own rendition of "Amazing Grace," which can be heard below, and the band also comments:
"Our version of Amazing Grace was inspired by a good friend of ours who attended the candlelight vigil of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots that died fighting the Yarnell Hill Wildfire on June 30, 2013.
"His exact words were 'If you can listen to Amazing Grace being played on the bagpipes and not shed a tear, you have no soul.' It spoke volumes to me about what a powerful song this is, considering that our friend is not a religious man.
"Our prayers go out to the families of all 20 members of hotshot crew. Thank you to Casey Kendel that played the bagpipes for us at the end of the video."
