Pit Stories: Ladder Two Stepping
We're going to keep up the recent trend of dual Pit Stories every Tuesday, so after Trollfest's quadruple conga line earlier, now we've got a tale from the U.S. deep south.
Chase Davis of Terminal Nation recalls a show from last year when the crowd went absolutely nuts in the most unlikely of places: a middle-of-nowhere location in Alabama.
Davis tells the story like this:
This was last summer when we did a short week run with New Heart. Our second show was in Athens, Alabama at a place called El Opry and no one knew what to expect. We eventually arrived and were a little concerned to see that it was a big metal building in the middle of a field. Inside there was a stage, tables everywhere, and a lot of chairs lined up in rows. It felt like it was frequently used for a service or meeting of some sort. On the floor between the stage and chairs there was a space surrounded by tables for us to play in and for people to mosh.
This awesome local punk band Slam Brigade just finished playing and New Heart was getting ready to set up. We weren’t really sure what the reaction was going to be but figured it would be good just from seeing how they reacted to the other bands. Once New Heart started playing everyone really got into it by moshing and singing along. Everything was going great and then New Heart started their final song.
Right before they started playing their last song people started looking around and grabbing whatever was closest to them. People were picking up chairs, pool sticks, and trashcans while we were all looking around wondering what was about to happen. As soon as they started this place went fucking crazy. People were hitting each other with chairs, breaking pool cues and throwing them everywhere, there was even a guy two stepping on top of a table and with a ladder.
While everyone in the pit was going crazy the guy with the ladder set it up in the middle of the pit. At the bottom of the ladder lay a guy who was moshing but soon got hit with a chair and ended up on the ground. The guy who set up the ladder was now at the top but not for long. He jumped off the top of the ladder and gave the guy on the ground a flying elbow to the stomach. After that everyone got even crazier and started flipping and throwing tables and chairs. It was an awesome, crazy, and unexpected show in Alabama.
Terminal Nation will release new album "Absolute Control" via Deep Six Records on June 9th, 2017. You can follow the latest on the band at Facebook here. More...

Pit Stories: Quadruple Conga Line
Tuesday has arrived and its time for another bout of heavy metal Pit Stories!
This time around we're going to hit the high seas for a tale from infamous floating festival 70,000 Tons Of Metal. Anyone who was at this show should give us a shout-out in the comments below.
The Norwegian folk metal maestros from Trollfest offer up our first Pit Story this week, with Dr. Leif recalling this tale of a quadruple conga line spontaneously forming across the ship:
Trollfest has had some pretty unorthodox pit action going. In addition to the classic wall of death and circle pit we have induced wall of hugs, circle of eight pit etc. The best story so far is what we experienced on the 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise this year. We played two shows, and we have the tradition of a conga line for the song "Solskinnsmedisin." During the second show, in the filled-to-the brim ice rink, four separate conga lines formed, all independent from each other.
The idea of a conga line is that you walk around, and eventually all these lines of people found in each. We were amazed as we witnessed this congregation of happy party people joining forces! The combined conga line went upstairs, downstairs, to the balconies, everywhere! Best conga line ever. Period. It will definitely go down in history, both with Trollfest and 70000 Tons Of Metal. Cheers.
Trollfest released latest album "Helluva" earlier this year, and you can check out two videos from the release below. More...

"We were really tired about the empty lyrics of pop music, even on the metal scene in some cases, there's so much happening around the world right now and it seems that it didn't care, true pain, true horror, but all that matters now are how big is your ass or how much money do you have playing like a fake gangsta, so fuck it, we choose Self Exile."

Vanna Calling It Quits
The last chapter on Vanna is now being unveiled, with a final farewell tour lined up for this summer. The group comments:
"Our band has always strived to take the negative in our lives and use it to fuel positive change. To foster good in a world that can be so bad. That and to cause the biggest ruckus with our fans while doing so. The relationship we share with you all and with our music has brought us to places we never dreamed of going; countries we never thought we'd step foot on, stages we only dreamed of playing. But the biggest impression left is the overwhelming sense of family that this scene has given us and let us be a part of. It's helped us become the men we are today and, in a way, is partly responsible for different parts of our lives blossoming.
"After touring for over 10 years, living our lives on the road and on the stage, it's time for us to go chase those other dreams that may have waited on a shelf. We've started families, careers, and new lives, all the while spending our nights sweating in a club or a Warped Tour parking lot with you and those sides of us and our lives need attention as much as Vanna did.
"Words can't begin to express what you have all done for us. In keeping with always sharing ourselves with you, we now turn to you to share one last time with us. Let's make this tour a celebration of every moment and memory as well as make a bunch of new ones with some amazing friends and bands.
"Come sing your hearts out and inevitably cry your eyes out with us as we leave a little piece of Vanna on every stage. This isn't goodbye forever — it's just a 'We'll see you around.' Our music will be here whenever you need it; we truly love you and we will miss you all. But remember, all good things must come to an end, but all good things can begin again — Viva Vanna." More...

Bardspec Streaming "Bone"
Today another track comes online from the debut album "Hydrogen" by Bardspec, the ambient project featuring Enslaved guitarist Ivar Bjørnson and Today Is The Day's Steve Austin.
"Bone" in Bjørnson's words is, "a song that is a meditation upon the concepts of strength and endurance, in the micro and the macro. How evolution has made us upright and made to be on the move - and how hard it can be to adapt those features into the realms of our psyche - so that we can undergo the mental evolution that is dormant within us."
This idea of micro and macro represents the very essence of Bardspec, which is thematically and sonically about minimizing, subtracting and meditating upon the simplest essence of "things;" the single points, exemplified through the song titles like "Bone," "Salt" and so on; the basic elements and foundations that make up the whole. There is an element of "space" in the music and the artwork, as a representation of the inner workings of the mind and the subconscious.
"Hydrogen" will be released on June 23rd across all formats, with previous song "Fire Tongue" available over here. More...
Fozzy Posts "Judas" Video

Frontman and WWE legend Chris Jericho comments: "For such a dark and sexy song like 'Judas,' we wanted a dark and sexy video to match...and we got that and more!
"In one take we filmed a unique, visually stunning masterpiece that combines an incredible song, psycho clowns, hot chicks, a man on fire and a great rock n roll band, all in one tasty video morsel. What more could you want...a giant rabbit holding balloons? Oh yeah, we've got that too!" More...

Enter "Ashley," a brand new, slightly pop-influenced ballad streaming below. The track delivers an expansion of the band's influences and styles that will appeal to a wider fan audience.
Frontman Nature G explains: "Most of Tengger Cavalry's songs are war or warrior related, telling stories of epic adventures that get our fans excited and ready to go raid with us! This song, however, is an experiment in personal emotion. It is a love song, and written in our signature sound, yet also blends in some pop music flavor, as a small surprise for our fans." More...

Entrails Unveils New Album
On June 16th, Swedish death metal band Entrails will release new album, "World Inferno," worldwide via Metal Blade Records. Check out first single "The Soul Collector" in the player below.
Entrails guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist comments: "I am damn proud to finally unleash this nasty beast, a new chapter is written for Entrails to satisfy all old school maniacs out there. Having new blood in the band, Martin and Tommy, helped making this fifth album the rawest and heaviest to date. Prepare yourself to stretch out your neck in full headbanging!"
The recordings for "World Inferno" started in December 2016 in Lundqvist's Bloodshed Studio. Dan Swano once again handled the mixing and mastering for the album.
Swano had this to say:"I don't know if I had said this before, but I say it again. Every time I start thinking about putting together some new SweDeath project, Entrails show up at my doorstep with a new album to mix, and every time I think 'Fuck!! - What's the point in making my own project when this is so fucking good, and exactly what I wanted to do…'
"And if I felt there were some details to improve upon from our previous work together, they fix that and then some, and return with an album even stronger than the previous one. What the fuck is going on in Linneryd!? Is Jimmy cloning death metal warriors in some barn over there or what!? To sum it up. Yet another amazing slab of SweDeath coming your way from Entrails! Beyond. Blown. Away!" More...

Worselder Signs With Sliptrick For New Album
French act Worselder signed on with Sliptrick Records. The band will release the new album "Paradigms Lost" later this year, with information forthcoming soon.
"Making no concessions on style or trends…" - This could be the Worselder mantra and even though the band could just offer old school metal with no search of originality, Worselder prefer to develop music at the crossroads of many influences which is quite impossible to label. The band was formed in 2008 at the foothills of the French Pyrénées mountains and quickly created a unique sound signature, blending the many influences of its members through 90’s heavy-thrash and power metal roots. Worselder then add to the strength and heaviness with actual metal rhythms. The vocals underline the mixing of styles, by alternating between heavy lyrical lines and death gutturals.
The band is deeply and proudly committed to its Pyrenean roots; it influences the atmosphere of its music, which is both dark and optimistic, with lyrics formed from topical events, as well as historical references.

Mongol Signs With Sliptrick Records
Canadian folk metal act Mongol signed on with Sliptrick Records. The band, who just issued the new EP "Warrior Spirit," will return to the studio to record the third full length effort entitled "The Return," which will be issued later this year. The album will contain songs from "Warrior Spirit" as well. More information on that will be issued soon.
Forged in the frozen bowels of Edmonton, Alberta, Mongol pays homage to the Mongolian Empire of old. Blending heavy melodic riffs with an array of folk instruments and Asian harmonies, Mongol wield a sound as diverse as the nations the historical influences conquered. The unique sound has taken them on many exciting journeys, including co-headlining Mongolia’s first international metal festival, “Noise Metal Fest,” alongside folk metal icons, Nine Treasures, in 2014.
Since forming in 2009, Mongol has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such acts as Arkona, Kalmah, Nekrogoblikon, Havok, and many more. More...

Disperse Drummer Releases Tab Book
Disperse drummer Michael Malyan has released a new drum tab book for the band's latest album, "Foreword." The book - available here - offers a complete drum transcription of "Foreword," digital Guitar Pro 7/6/5 audio files, a PDF copy, and much more.
To celebrate the release of the book, Malyan is currently giving away the tabs to the band's single "Surrender" in digital form here. Malyan comments:
"I'm so happy with this tab book. I've gone through and painstakingly mapped out the album drum parts, down to the extreme detail of exactly which cymbals were hit, and every single ghost note. Some parts are hybrids with some programmed drum elements, but the tabs encompass them into a playable hybrid of the two sounds!
"The digital book is written in Guitar Pro 6, and then optimized individually for the new Guitar Pro 7! I've also included GP5 files for those of you who have the older Guitar Pro 5 software, although I can't guarantee all of the ghost notes will make it through!
"The physical book is printed on high quality 100gsm paper, and comb bound by hand by yours truly!" More...
