Unearthing The New Band Underground
Man, this just always manages to happen. We get a couple of Unearthing The Metalunderground columns up and running and then somehow its been months again since the last one. That phenomena struck again as I look back and see it's been four months since the previous entry!
Back at the end of January we covered three bands with totally unexpected sounds, and now its time to get back into the swing of things with three groups still in their infancy, only having been around for a few years or even just getting started in 2017. These bands may be on the newish side, but they've all got a fabulous polished sound that belies that youth.
Below we cover three lesser known groups with a fairly broad range of sounds that are all worth your attention: young Norwegian project Korrupt, Russian outfit Dark Matter Secret, and finally Ursinne, a death metal supergroup that isn't going to be underground for long! More...

One of the most promising, well-rounded progressive releases of the year is about to drop from Cydemind! There's now less than two weeks to go until the official May 26th release date of "Erosion."
With that release date looming, we got in touch with the members of this violin-based metal mashup group to learn more about the distinctive blend of sends presented on "Erosion."
Below you can find the full interview, with pre-orders for this classically influenced prog metal opus online here and our full pre-release review of the album available at this location. More...
Zornheym Announces Debut Album Release
Swedish symphonic extreme metal band Zornheym is preparing to unleash new album "Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns" this September 15th via Non Serviam Records.
With magnificent visual artistry in the form of cover art by Lordigan Pedro Sena and a concept expanding graphic novel illustrated by Anu Bring, every chapter tells gruesome tales of an asylum for the criminally insane.
The band comments: “This is the first chapter in the history of Zornheym and we are so very proud of the outcome. The performance of everyone involved has been amazing. To use so many real instruments from day one feels like such an accomplishment. This is just the beginning!”
Wing Studio's sound wizard Sverker Widgren comments: “It was a great pleasure to take part in the journey of the creation of this record. To have Zornheym here in the studio with the ambition to make an album that is so much more than an ordinary metal album made me very excited to produce this recording from day one. Now looking at the final result, the power of Zornheym's music can't be denied really.” More...

Kadavar, Monolord Added To Desertfest Lineup
The organizers of the 2017 Desertfest just checked in with this announcement about confirming four more bands:
"Hot on the trails of our last announcement, we're back already with a quadruple punch of heavy rocking goodness that will get the blood rushing for October to come, for sure!
"We realize that for some of you internet-savvy Festers, the addition of the mighty Kadavar to the DF Antwerp line-up is a known fact already. So how about we turn it up even more, and drop Church of Misery as a headliner as well? And if that's still not enough, would the announcement of Monolord do the trick?
"Yep, that's what we thought! So as a cherry on the cake, let's round it off with the Nottingham supergroup Church of the Cosmic Skull, who dropped one of the more memorable rock albums from last year. More great bands to come in the near future!" More...

Amebix's "Monolith" Being Re-Released
"Monolith" by Amebix is one of those records that many have heard “of” but have never actually “heard.” Now thirty years old, it’s a record that still remains largely unmasked. Dissonance Productions looks to change that with the North American re-introduction to one of crust punk’s most prolific albums on June 30th.
Scene Point Blank calls it “essential” and The Obelisk refers to it as “legendary and massively influential.” Originally released in 1987, the second album from Amebix is an urgent and ugly album that drew both immediate praise and scorn.
It ultimately would be the last recording by the band for more than 20 years; founder Rob Baron Miller with brother Chris Stig Miller, and Spider splitting up shortly after the album’s release. More...

Gridfailure Posts "Condescender"
Long-running underground music zine Aversionline just premiered a new track from the upcoming "Scathed" album by New York solo outfit Gridfailure, which will see release in early June through Darker Days Ahead.
Check out the track "Condescender" below, which Aversionline calls "a six-minute spread of sinister dark ambient swaths, murky melodies, and vengeful vocal textures."
Unloading ten defeating new anthems for hallucinogenic seppuku, Gridfailure's "Scathed" sees minister of propaganda David Brenner delivering unpredictable wrath through unhinged power dementia. Paranoia-inducing atmospheres surround punishing vocal torrents, which writhe forth from the rubble of eroded guitars and bass, aneurythmic beats, lunatic keys/synth, theremin, didgeridoo, xylophone, harmonica, and more.
"Scathed" will see free digital download and handmade CDR release through Minneapolis-based Darker Days Ahead on June 2nd. More...

Foscor Releases "Altars" Video
Following the previous song "Instants," Foscor just released a music video for the "Altars" track, which can be seen below. Both songs hail from impending album "Les Irreals Visions," due out June 9th. Foscor comments on this new video release:
"As we promised...time for premiering the 3rd track. 'Altars' is a new visual experience developed alongside the team we are used to working with. Again, there's a lot of us in the process of making this video, emotionally and physically, as well as from the people we trust and allows us to achieve the best results. Thanks to all of them!!
"There’s an important sentence within the lyrics of this song that claims '… At the margins of the road, big altars stand up…,' which develops the idea that when we are taken to our personal limits, a door to a new reality may appear. Following the topic on 'Instants,' the Altars are a metaphor of those moments of change. We are no longer what we were; we are images of ourselves, and a reinvention for better or worse.
"Memory is an important element in the album, an extension of human experience on inhabiting the world. A net of places, ways, wefts and bounds shapes our daily experience and builds our Life at many different levels. To feel its beauty it is mandatory to inhabit the space, embrace it and live it with the body and memories accumulated over time and experimentation.
'Less than a month to see 'Les Irreals Visions' finally released through Season of Mist... until then, we hope you enjoy and feel this journey as much as we did… Pre-order the album here or over here. Thanks a lot to all media partners involved!" More...

Cleveland-based artist Derek Hess has been recognized for his poster work with bands such as Pantera, Pink Floyd, and Pearl Jam, as well as being featured by brands like MTV, Vh1 and TLC.
Hess' art has been featured everywhere from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to the infamous Louvre in Paris. While these accomplishments are celebrated by the outside world, many don't know that there's a bit more going on with Derek Hess than often meets the eye.
Hess has been public about his struggle with alcoholism and bipolar disorder, even releasing an intimate autobiographical documentary, "Forced Perspective" (2016), which has already won awards at the Cleveland International Film Festival, the Beverly Hills Film Festival and many others. "Forced Perspective" showcases the evolution of a renowned artist and his effect on music and culture while highlighting the link between creativity and mental illness.
In acknowledgment of Mental Health Awareness Month, Hess is taking part in several activities to raise awareness for the cause, teaming up with e-commerce company Threadless to create a t-shirt to benefit Hope For The Day, a global non-profit organization achieving proactive suicide prevention by providing outreach and mental health education through self-expression platforms. SikTh Posts "Golden Cufflinks" Video
Ahead of the June 2nd release of new album "The Future In Whose Eyes?," SikTh just dropped a new single and video "Golden Cufflinks."
When introducing the track, vocalist and lyricist Mikee W Goodman states, "The song is very melodic and is a very different type of song for SikTh fans to hear. Even though there are extremely aggressive moments on the new album. This song has a real epic and melodic feel to it."
Produced and directed by Goodman, the video acts as a commentary to and the causation of the ongoing sanitisation of many towns and cities, something many music fans around the world will be able to relate to.
"When I wrote the lyrics for 'Golden Cufflinks,' they were initially inspired by the amount of live music venues that are being closed and a feeling that rock culture is in decline," Goodman said. "The venue which sticks out to me the most is the famous London Astoria. Some of the best SikTh shows were in the LA2 and main Astoria. I went a lot as a fan as well. So when that was closed and knocked down to make way for Crossrail, it really was a sad and defining moment in rock history for me and many others."
He further adds, "I think places of such rich history and cultural importance should be protected and preserved. I see this happening across the country and world — so many other venues being shut down and how scenes and golden eras come and go. How we have to move along or do it seems." More...

"I think we have proven that playing fast was something we were good at, so this time I wanted to bring even more diversity into our music," Frederic Leclercq (bass) comments on the new album. "It's great to challenge ourselves instead of staying in a comfort zone, and I really wanted to experiment with Marc's vocals. I think people are going to be surprised at his brutality!" More...

Rosae Crucis Signs With Cruz Del Sur Music
Rome's Rosae Crucis has inked a deal with Cruz Del Sur Music. The band has already begun working on new songs for the forthcoming sixth full length studio album.
Named after an ancient, esoteric order, the Romans are well known to Italian metalheads. Rosae Crucis has been active since 1989 and always followed its own artistic path, playing epic heavy metal during the 90s, a decade plagued by fashions, composing a very personal style of music and, last but not least, singing in Italian language.
Courage and coherence usually pay off: throughout the years Rosae Crucis has been constantly improving the song writing. The band gained a wide fan base, thanks in part to outstanding live performances.
More details on the new album will be announced soon. In the meantime, check out "Guerra Santa" from 2014 album "Massoneria" here: More...

Never before has The Midnight Ghost Train shown this side of itself. The new album proves that the band is not just another rock band, but explorers, risk takers and true artists. This is not a departure, but an expansion:
"It was time to challenge ourselves, and our fanbase, and do something completely different that hasn't been done before in this genre", says guitarist & vocalist Steve Moss. "No sense in doing the same thing over and over again, there is no growth in that. We want to learn, create, and leave our true artistic impression on the world." He continues: "Not one song on this album sounds the same. Each track has a completely different feel and unique quality to it. Something in this album for everyone in every genre of music out there. Exploring and challenging new grounds is what this album is about." More...

The song is the title track of the upcoming debut album to be issued on August 20th via Transcending Obscurity Records.

Together they churn out the heaviest kind of death metal that is rife with classic appeal and flavor. "Swim With The Leviathan" is a lesson in death metal glory that encapsulates everything that makes the genre timeless.
Ursinne has also tossed in not one or two but four covers of influential songs from the '80s. Watch them give the classic songs a death metal twist, where even the legend Kam Lee of Massacre joins them for one of them.

Misamore Premieres "Bloody Mary" Video
Hailing from Sacremento, the hard rockin' trio Misamore has teamed up with us today to exclusively premiere the "Bloody Mary" lyric video - buckle up and get ready for a road trip into darkness!
"The song 'Bloody Mary' was written a few years before the recording of Misamore's full-length album, 'Monolith.' The song deals with the destruction of what little innocence we have and how it all fundamentally is the same feeling that sends us in the same direction," commented Misamore's Josh Amolsch.
Josh goes on to say, "Originally, the video was planned to be a woman losing her virginity and then giving birth in the snow and bleeding to death, but we thought that might be too graphic and 'real' for people."
"There was also plans for the band to be in the video, playing around burning trash barrels in the snow. But the lyric video seemed more appropriate for a few reasons. Those being that the listeners probably want to understand what the lyrics are saying and the another was to focus on the story of how easy it is to make bad decisions and how quickly they will cause things to crumble. it was also a bit cheaper to do the lyric video."
The CA-based power trio Misamore refuses to rest. With fourteen years in, a five-song EP, a single and now a full-length album to tout, Misamore has proven that it will take more than a pesky thing like drummer Cameron Ellis' brain tumor or a near death experience due to Celiac Disease with bassist Mike Dragony to slow the band down.
Misamore's “Monolith” - available here - is what Loud & Heavy calls “a top to bottom solid body of work” with many peers in the Sacramento music scene praising the release as an “evolutionary piece” and “Flawless.” You can follow the latest on Misamore over at Facebook here. More...
