Pit Stories: Earth Hour SNAFU
Tuesday's regularly scheduled Pit Story time has returned!
Last week we had the craziness of ladder two-stepping on tables and a spontaneously forming quadruple conga line, while this week things don't go quite as well for the performing band, with an unscheduled holiday observance throwing a wrench in the works.
Russian alt rock band Remark shared this tale of a show gone dark without warning:
One of the most memorable stories that's firstly come to mind is about our first solo show. The club was small and old, that's why we brought a lot of additional lighting and sound rig. So much stuff, that we could hardly turn everything on.
During soundcheck and most of the show everything was OK, but suddenly the lights turned off. We have just finished a song, perhaps someone thought that it was planned. But we knew that it wasn't, cause the sound turned off too. People switched their phone lights, and our drummer, Timi, started playing some grove. Several minutes we were dancing and singing, trying to rock the crowd, while people were fixing the problems.
Then it turned out, that our show coincided with the Earth hour, and when everybody switched on the lights, the electric system of the club was overloaded.
You can follow the latest on Remark over at Facebook here or pick up the band's self-titled album via iTunes. Check out the band's music video for "Falling" below. More...
Cormorant Unveils New Album
Cormorant is readying to release the band's long-awaited fourth LP "Diaspora" this August. Recorded and mixed by Greg Wilkinson at Earhammer Studios in Oakland throughout late 2016, "Diaspora" serves as the follow-up to 2014's "Earth Diver" full-length and sees Cormorant take a unique style of progressive metal in an expansive and adventurous new direction.
With four songs that total sixty-one minutes, the album features the band's longest, most detail-oriented compositions to date -- the collective result of two years of collaborative writing. "Diaspora" also includes a performance from cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (Grayceon, Giant Squid, ex-Amber Asylum) while Utah-based artist Jeff Christensen created the album's vivid, four-panel artwork.
"Diaspora" will be available on 2xLP, CD, and digital formats this coming August 11th with U.S. and European distribution through War Crime Recordings. Check out a teaser trailer below.

Merrimack Streaming "Cesspool Coronation"
The French black metal cultists from Merrimack are now streaming a third new track from "Omegaphilia," The track, an abrasive, dissonant opus titled "Cesspool Coronation," is available for streaming below.
Merrimack comments: "We like to invite vocalists that we consider to be among the very best in the realm of black metal. On our previous record, we worked with Marduk's Mortuus. This time we asked Aldrahn (Dodheimsgard, Thorns) to record few passages for the track 'Cesspool Coronation.'
"His unique voice blends perfectly with the intensity of this song. This track starts off mid-tempo riffs and escalates quickly into a frenzy, before ending with an oppressive riff that eradicates any hope and light. For the first time, we've written part of the lyrics in French, which can be heard in the track's closing speech. "
New album "Omegaphilia" releases worldwide on June 9th via Season Of Mist and bears the following trackl isting:
1. Cauterizing Cosmos
2. The Falsified Son (click here to stream)

Dead Asylum Releasing "Death Always Wins"
Melodic death / thrash quartet Dead Asylum will release sophomore album "Death Always Wins" on June 2nd. On the follow-up to 2013 debut "General Carnage," the Vancouver band has sharpened its songwriting to a fine point and bolstered an established muscular attack with a harder rhythmic punch and an even deadlier arsenal of riffs.
Lyrical themes include revolution and political uprising, the apocalypse, and - as the band name alludes - twisted facets of the human psyche. "Death Always Wins" was tracked at Jam Factory Studios in Port Coquitlam, BC; recorded and edited by Roger Mowat; and mix/mastered by Chris Holmes. Pierre-Alain (3mmi Design) was responsible for the album art. More...
Finsterforst Writing New Album
Following 2015's "Mach dich frei" album and the subsequent 2016 EP titled... ahem... "#YØLØ," German folk metal band Finsterforst is now working on a new release. The band comments:
"Spring is coming and the songwriting process for our next album has started. As you can see, we are gathering true pagan influences with Hannes a.k.a THE Lulatsch at Europapark!
"After supporting us at Ragnarök Festival with his amazing accordion and vocal performance, he still feels like being a part of this band - at least somehow!

Sober Truth Releases New Video
Sober Truth just released a vinyl edition of new album "Locust Lunatic Asylum." The fourth studio album from this groove metal band hailing from the Ko¨ln / Bonner Raum was produced by TaktArt and offers listeners a varied journey over 46 minutes. Check out a music video for "Leave the Locust in the Lunatic Asylum" below.
The lyrics deal with themes about one's own reality, the perception of one's own environment and the questioning of one's own actions. Topics such as "procrastination" and questionable life targets are addressed. The album does not answer any questions. It does, however, encourage us to think further and deliberately leaves plenty of room for our own interpretations.
The band comments: "The name of this album is derived from our song 'Leave the Locust in the Lunatic Asylum.' We are deliberately playing with the biblical portrait of the locust, which can relate to a variety of personal experiences and problems, such as the excessive consumption of certain media, new problems in the digital age or perhaps the negative experience of an extremely bad relationship. Each listener will recognize his own story here. The title of this song inspires and recommends that this 'plague' is simply to be left in a lunatic asylum. In an interpretation of this story, we have named this lunatic asylum 'Locust Lunatic Asylum.'" More...
Tankard Posts 35th Anniversary Trailer
In 1982, when four long-haired metal maniacs from Frankfurt am Main, Germany decided to found a band named Tankard, nobody expected the group to still be going three decades later.
Yet here they are, still alive and kicking, and throughout these years there’s barely been a blip in Tankard's path. These days, when the routine of breaking-up, making a “reunion” and disappearing again seems to be the order of play, Tankard never joined that course of action – instead the group kept flying the flag of thrash metal high the whole time.
This is why the founders of “alcoholic metal” can now celebrate a 35th anniversary in 2017 with 17th studio album "One Foot In The Grave." Check out the new video trailer below, in which Gerre and Frank talk about 35 years of Tankard.

Evil Invaders Arrested, Deported From U.S.
The list of musicians denied entry to the U.S. or booted out after arriving continues to grow... Following Loudness, and Infernal Tenebra, and Wormrot, and a host of SXSW bands, now Evil Invaders has run afoul of U.S. customs.
This time around, half the band made it through customs and was on the way to a festival, while the other half was arrested. Eventually the whole band got to spend a day in jail before being sent back to Europe. Evil Invaders comments:
As some of you might know we were scheduled for our very first USA festival ever in Milwaukee on April 22nd. The deal was simple: the festival purchases our flights and covers all our costs to make the show happen, but no money for our own pockets. We were definitely up for that and we were stoked to head for the US of A to tear down the house for our 1st ever US live performance. Did we manage to enter the country? Yes, Sir! Did we kick ass and leave the country to ashes after our devastating show? Well, not exactly… Here’s how it goes :)
On April 20th we took our flight from Brussels to Chicago. The flight was OK as we already flew multiple times to Japan or South America. We were all good! When we arrived at Chicago airport everything went smooth and we were ready to kick ass. We took our bags, stood in line at customs and went out of the airport as always. Standard procedure, no big deal. Except for… Joeri and Max.More...

In The Presence Of Wolves Announces New EP

In The Presence Of Wolves further improves upon that addictive sonic blend with upcoming EP, "Of Two Minds, Stages 1-2: The Ape and The Cage," a conceptual offering due out June 30th, 2017.
"Of Two Minds..." is available for pre-order now via Bandcamp and you can take a listen to first single, "The One Who Fell To Earth," in the palyer below.

The EP tells the story of twin brothers, one with paranoid schizophrenia and one without. The sane brother deals with the first two stages of grief as he investigates the reasons behind his twin taking his own life.
At the helm on "Of Two Minds..." was producer Kevin Antreassian of Backroom Studios, otherwise recognized as guitarist for kings of metallic chaos, Dillinger Escape Plan. The EP was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. More...
Dez Fafara Launches The Oracle Management
DevilDriver/Coal Chamber frontman Dez Fafara has announced the launch of The Oracle Management and brought in the expertise of artist manager Mark Vieira, formerly of Good Fight Management and Prosthetic Records.
Together, Fafara and Vieira hold more than 45 years of combined experience and share a vision and mission to create an artist-driven environment for growing acts as well as established talent to persevere in an ever-changing industry. Vieira's bands, 1349 (North America only), Black Tusk, The Casualties, Ringworm, Silver Snakes, Tombs, and Vattnet (formerly Vattnet Viskar), join the existing roster of DevilDriver, Amigo The Devil, Wil Ridge, and Made From Stars.
The Oracle CEO Dez Fafara states, "It's my great pleasure to welcome Mark Vieira and his roster of bands to The Oracle Management. When synergy happens, it's often a lightning-strike moment. In my first meeting with Mark, we had an instant connection. We both had a common mission with our artists to provide total attention to every detail - whether it be as mundane as tour routing or marketing or out-of-the-box ideas that often notch an artist up overnight due to a well-executed plan of attack on multiple fronts. We quickly formed an infrastructure from all the sources we had together which makes for a powerful combination. We get shit done and in a timely manner... that's just the facts!" More...
Obey The Brave Releases New Video

"As soon as I heard that riff, all I could hear in my head was Steve's voice over and over again. He and I have been writing and performing together in Despised Icon for 15 years. That chemistry definitely shines on this single."
Xandria Kicking Off Tour With Kobra And The Lotus
Napalm Records label-mates Xandria and Kobra and the Lotus are set to kick off their North American tour tonight in New York, NY at Webster Hall's Marlin Room. Both bands have been chomping at the bit to return to the states and the time is finally here.
Xandria is touring in support of latest release and seventh studio album overall "Theater of Dimensions" (check out our review here). The album is a hyper-emotional affair that digs deep, lyrically speaking, while remaining an incredibly metallic effort.
Kobra and the Lotus is set to release new album and Napalm Records debut "Prevail I" this Friday, full of blistering guitars, pounding rhythms, and haunting vocal melodies that take the listener on a sonic journey.
Kobra Paige comments: "It's been a long time coming for Kobra and the Lotus to release new music and what could be better than to do it on this power packed tour coming up. We are super pumped to be hitting the road with the mighty Xandria and Once Human! It's sure to be a show that has something for everyone and charges people up from start to finish. 8kids Announces "Denen Die Wir Waren" Album
8kids will release "Denen Die Wir Waren" via Napalm Records this coming May 26th, 2017. The label comments:
"Torrid guitar-led melodies cascade while Jonas Jakob vocally reflects the agony, frustration and enlightenment of the emotional extremes buried within 8kids music. The raw sound of his voice acts like an ice-breaker cutting through frozen seas.
"Despite their young age, 8kids are deft storytellers, portraying heart-wrenching moments that everyone can relate to in one way or another. Their pathos-filled debut album 'Denen Die Wir Waren '('The Ones We Used To Be') provides a feast of ear-catching hooks mixed with a heavy dose of rough, post hardcore-esque drive.
"If you feel nothing while listening to ‘Zeit‘, you stopped feeling a long time ago. Compared to the likes of Heisskalt and Fjørt, the German-based trio are part of a new movement, a musical Zeitgeist; There’s no better time than now, and soulmates Emma, Hans and Jonas are ready to share their story."
