Eldrimner Comments On Status Of Band

Swedish group Eldrimner, which hasn't had a release since 2014's "Jag känner ingenting för dig," just check in with the following band update:

"As many of you probably have noticed, we’ve been very inactive and quiet for a long time. First of all, we are still very much alive as a band, and we don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.

"Since the release of 'Jag känner ingenting för dig' we realized we didn’t have a vision or direction for the band, which led to us getting unmotivated. We don’t want to pretend being full time rockstars and build hype for nothing, but we want to share where we’re at.

"We’ve talked a lot about our vision for the band regarding everything from sound to gigs, and we’re trying to create a clear concept and ways to express that concept through everything we do. Basically expanding different ideas we’ve had since 'Inom förloppet av ett liv,' and trying to actually make them happen. We are writing a new album, but we have no estimate of when we’re gonna record it.

"All we know is that we want to make sure not to stress it just to fall into the same trap as before. Also, no shows planned for now, but there might pop up some random gigs if we feel the need to show some life signs.

"We appreciate all the support we’ve received over the years, and that’s why we don’t want to exploit that support by feeding you posts like 'A lot is going on behind the curtains! Prepare yourselves!!' Instead we’ll be keep working on our concept and songs, and update when we have something to show. Until then, we’ll keep a low profile!" More...

Column

Sunday Old School: Mercenary

Over the course of Sunday Old School, we've looked at groups from many countries, some more than others. The United States, Great Britain and Germany have all had quite a large number of bands featured throughout the history of this column, while Greece, Canada, Japan and Brazil have had a respectable number featured too. There are also countries which have only popped up once such as Turkey, Russia, Serbia and India. One country that has only had one of their native bands featured a small number of times is the northern European nation of Denmark, though their number will increase today as we take a look at their best known contribution to the power metal genre, Mercenary.

Mercenary began life in 1991, the brainchild of guitarist Hans Jørgen Andersen, who was joined in his musical endeavour by drummer Jakob Johnsen, singer Henrik "Kral" Andersen and Andreas W. Hansen on bass. The quartet recorded their first demo, "... Domicile" in 1993, with a second demo, "Gummizild" being released the next year, around the same time their song, "One Eyed Beast" appeared on the compilation, "Fuck You, We're From Denmark Vol.3." The demos garnered enough attention for the group to sign with Black Day Records, through whom they released their first EP, "Supremacy" in 1996, although by this point, Kral was the only original member left, taking up bass as well as holding his position as vocalist, with guitar and drum duties being handled by Nikolaj Brinkman, Jakob Mølbjerg and Rasmus Jacobsen respectively. Snares Of Sixes Streaming New EP

"Yeast Mother: An Electroacoustic Mass," the debut EP by Snares Of Sixes - the newest investigative musical outlet of Agalloch's Jason Walton - just saw release through Crucial Blast this past Friday. Now a full stream has come online and can be heard below.

Fusing an intense and eclectic range of extreme and experimental approaches into a disjointed and somehow simultaneously seamless hybrid of sounds, Snares Of Sixes' maiden recording sees co members of Lawnmower Deth, Winds, Sculptured, Blekspetl, Hollow Branches, Self Spiller, Barrowlands, Age Of Silence, Dolven, Musk Ox, The Night Watch, Maestus, and more joining the creator in his delivery of this intriguing mutation.

Offers Jason Walton of the EP: "'Yeast Mother' scratched an insidious and pervasive itch for me. In many ways this is an album I have been striving to make since my high school years. Once I fell in love with challenging and confounding music, I have created many vehicles to try to replicate the feeling of awe this form of music inspired in me. Especially Likely Sloth, Nothing, and Self Spiller were all created to satisfy this craving. With Yeast Mother, I believe I have finally reached that goal." More...

IKillYa Premieres New Song & Music Video

IKillYa premieres a new song and video entitled "Betray Your Creator", taken from the upcoming new album "War For An Idea", which will be out in stores June 2 via Urban Yeti Records. The band with this track takes a stand against the cultural justification of rape.

Explains vocalist Jason Lekberg: "Pure rage. That’s how we feel about cultural justification of rape, and so that’s the only way we could think to visually represent this song. ‘Betray Your Creator’ was an intense song to create and Matt Brewster and Christoph Knie of Engine Room did an excellent job of capturing that intensity in the video for it.”"

Check out now "Betray Your Creator" below.
