Bison Unveils New Studio Album
Vancouver metal band Bison makes a devastating return with brand-new album,"You Are Not The Ocean You Are The Patient."
Set for release in Europe on June 23rd followed by a North American release on July 7th, the crushing new offering follows the 2014-issued "1000 Needles" EP and serves asa first full-length offering to include bassist Shane Clark, former lead guitarist of 3 Inches Of Blood.
"It was important that the songs fit together to tell a bit of a story," relays guitarist and vocalist James Farwell, "a story of a new life and escaping the city, while still being tethered to it. Life is a constant fight, and though I have taken the fight to a more natural and beautiful place, that struggle persists. This is an album of daily living. It is for everyone."
Bison's "You Are Not The Ocean You Are The Patient" was captured in the band's hometown with long time friend Jesse Gander at Rain City Recorders.
"I wanted to also steep myself in music that was not necessarily heavy in the obvious sense," Farwell continues, "so I was listening to lots of blues while writing the album: Peter Green, Muddy Waters, and Howlin' Wolf. There was also lots of instrumental rock music playing on my long commutes to Vanceouver for work and rehearsals." More...
CKY Reveals New Album
CKY now rises from the ashes with "The Phoenix," due out June 16th and seeing Chad I Ginsburg stepping into the front man role. He’s joined in enduring partnership by fellow CKY co-founder, Jess Margera, and bassist Matt Deis (ex-All That Remains), who first joined CKY in 2005.
“We’re grown adults now with an eagle-eye perspective on who we are, what we do, and how to do it right,” Ginsburg declares. “None of us are out there in the clouds. We’re pretty well-grounded people that have an honest perspective on where we’re at.”
“We made sure that we went into the studio with our guns blazing,” Margera says. “This isn’t a bunch of parts thrown together. We focused on the songs. We didn’t ‘have to’ make this album, we wanted to.”
In keeping with CKY tradition, "The Phoenix" was recorded at the famed Rancho De La Luna studio in California. The goal was to make an authentic, organic, and “real” rock n’ roll record, uncompromising in its dedication to capturing what CKY actually sounds like.
“We’re feeling rather lucky,” Ginsburg agrees. “We’re not taking things for granted. We’re saturated in gratitude. It’s an incredibly humbled CKY, with a fire to last another twenty years. The point is to go play rock n’ roll and appreciate everybody else who does it, too. It’s a lucky job to have. More...
Nitrogods Posts "Rancid Rock" Video
The first single "Rancid Rock" taken from upcoming Nitrogods album "Roadkill BBQ" is available today and can be heard via a music video below. "Rancid Rock" is the opening track of the album and makes clear what to expect from this true rock 'n roll trio.
Nitrogods recorded 14 tracks for the album, starting with "Rancid Rock," playing a boogie on the title track dedicated to Rick Parfitt, and giving the slide guitar extravaganza on "My Love's A Wirebrush."
Furthermore, the band digs deep into music history on "Where Have The Years Gone," an unashamed homage to The Who. Guitarist Henny Wolter comments: "Oimel and Klaus saw the band during their final tour and where absolutely awed. That's why we simply had to record this number." More...
Zebulon Kosted Teases New Album
Following a self-titled cassette release last year via Al Hadid Records, Zebulon Kosted is about to return with a new album titled "You Have No Race You Have No Culture." Today a 5+ minute sample has come online from the release, which will be made available through Tetraktys Media and Hammerkrieg Productions on June 6th, 2017.
Listen in below, or you can download the track excerpt for free at Bandcamp here. Zebulon Kosted comments on the upcoming album:
"Spend money, have children and uphold the status quo or you will be ostracized. Why would you need to question the value of globalization, urbanization and industrialization when it has brought progress and freedom to the peoples of the world? You have no race.
"Humans all come from the same source and have all procreated with different peoples from different places for thousands of years. You have no culture. Culture has been supplanted in the regional sense by cell phone, fast food, sweat shop clothes and tabloid media distractions. We are one. We must destroy the wealthy few who continue to enslave us."

Thaw Releasing "St. Phenome Alley" On Vinyl
May 15th, 2017 sees the release of "St. Phenome Alley" by Poland's black noise wizards Thaw on LP format. Pagan Records comments:
"Polish extreme music is reaching the peak of its creative capacities in 2017. Thaw can be considered as originators of the current peripheral resurgency of the Polish black metal movement.
"Having always valued courage and openness way more than genre purity, the band have released two successful full-length works as well as a couple of different, more experimental formats. St. Phenome Alley is one of them. Consisting of two entirely improvised, brooding and bleak sonic arrangements, it shows the band's abilities which exceed any limitations and permeate even the strictest musical rule.
"Released only on tape and digital so far, 'St. Phenome Alle'y will finally see its vinyl release on 15th May. The pre-order starts now right here." More...

Shadow Of Doubt Posts "No Mercy"
"No Mercy," the debut EP by Texas hardcore outfit Shadow Of Doubt - founded by former core members of Bitter End, Hardside, and more - is approaching early June release through War Records, and today the title track has been issued.
The four-song EP was recorded in November 2016 by Phillip Odom (Ivy League) at Bad Wolf Studios, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (Integrity, Power Trip, Nails). Offers Shadow Of Doubt guitarist Patrick Flanigan on the new track:
"I came up with the intro to 'No Mercy' first. There is a cool key change in the riff which I love doing, especially with heavy music. 'No Mercy' never really lets up. It stays hard hitting the whole time which I think makes it the strongest song on the EP. The song is very thrash influenced but with a lot of New York hardcore style to it, which really showcases our musical direction.
"The lyrics are about how we seem to be going backwards instead of progressing, and all of the consequences that come with that. I wrote the song right after the election so I was pretty pissed at the time. The theme of this EP and the title track is that you will get no mercy from this unrelenting world." More...

Blind Guardian Announces New Live Release
There's some big news today for Blind Guardian: the progressive power metal pioneers are proud to announce the release of a new 3CD package/4LP package entitled "Live Beyond The Spheres"! The release will include material recorded from various shows during the European tour in 2015 – and it will contain old classics, new tracks as well as songs that are played very rarely live. "Live Beyond The Spheres’ is scheduled to be released on July 7th via Nuclear Blast as a 3CD and 4LP Box.
Vocalist Hansi Kürsch spoke about the difficulties in creating such an ambitious album: "In general, I would say that we've had a really good run throughout this tour and that nearly every show was perfect. But at the end of the day, after every one of us had checked through every single song and concert of those 30 shows again and again, there was only something like two or three versions of each song that were suitable to be used for an album. We then had to decide between those final versions; which one the most impressive one was. This was a nearly endless task!"
But as we all know, Blind Guardian stands for perfectionism in every way: "The final songs chosen contain such an energy, that tiny mistakes appeared to be completely unimportant. As soon as you listen to the songs, you will know what I mean, they feel completely alive".
But in the end, the effort was all worth it. Hansi sums up: "There is always something happening at each show, let's call it 'MAGIC', that gives us all a shiver up our spine. We are really satisfied when people sing with us, have a good time and go back home happy."
The CD track listings will read as follows:
CD 1:
1. The Ninth Wave
2. Banish From Sanctuary
3. Nightfall
4. Prophecies
5. Tanelorn
6. The Last Candle
7. And Then There Was Silence
CD 2:

2. Fly
3. Bright Eyes
4. Lost In The Twilight Hall
5. Imaginations From The Other Side
6. Into The Storm
