A young band hungry to make a name for itself, Massakren has already started to make a splash with its new self-titled EP and "Threshold" music video. Taking a base of Dimmu Borgir style black metal, but throwing in plenty of extra flourishes and even a thrash influence, the members of Massakren were amazingly only between 16-20 years old when the EP's tracks were recorded, following in the footsteps of some of Scandinavia's most influential bands.
Massakren's vocalist Parker Jameson filled in Metalunderground.com on the band's formation, the musical history of the members, and the recording process for the new EP. Parker also delved into subjects such as black metal's place in the metal scene, and how perception of certain styles can influence listeners. Commenting on the subject, Parker stated "People need to use their ears and nothing else when judging bands. Their popularity shouldn’t impact your views on their songwriting."

XII Boar has posted a video clip online for the song "Train Wreck," which was filmed during a rehearsal session. You can view the video below.
The band also commented on its history and sound: "XII Boar was formed in late February 2010 by three friends who wanted to play some kick ass rock n' roll influenced by bands like Crowbar, Down, Black Sabbath, Clutch, Motorhead and High on Fire. They wanted to combine crushing riffs, with killer guitar solos and groove laden melodies. Released in January 2011, 'XII' is an immense slab of what XII Boar likes to call stoner metal."
Bay Area thrash act Heathen been pummeling its way through the U.S. and Canada on tour with Destruction. The North American Reckoning Tour 2011 commenced on April 26th in Vancouver, and despite some stressful bus issues and being forced to miss a Detroit gig, has successfully pillaged its way through nearly two week's worth of dates with another week and a half to go.
Commented Heathen guitarist Kragen Lum from the road: "Well, the tour got off to a rough start but despite the tour bus breaking down, having to get another bus, and barely making it to the Denver show things are back on track. All of the shows have been killer and we're having a great time with the Destruction guys. We've got 13 shows left on the tour so come on out and get your thrash fix!"
In regards to the Detroit show, Lum added: "Apologies to any Heathen fans that came out to see us in Detroit [at Harpo's]. Unfortunately, the promoter for the show double booked the venue with two tours on the same night -- the Destruction tour and the Cavalera Conspiracy tour -- and then decided he couldn't pay all of the bands. Consequently, we were bumped from the bill along with another band and did not get to play. We were at the venue and ready to go but the situation was beyond our control. Hopefully we can come back to Detroit in the near future."

Look for them on tour all this month and head over now to this location to view the tour itinerary.
Justin (guitars) checks in with the following report: “Happy to say we're back on the road again! After a stop at Bamboozle festival, which was amazing, we headed straight down to Florida to meet up with our new friends in Norma Jean and Motionless In White, our old friends in For The Fallen Dreams and good buds and labelmates Stray From The Path. We've been having a blast already kicking things off in Orlando on Cinco de Mayo in style by polishing off a 1.75 of 1800 tequila in just a few short hours. We luckily had a chance to do some fishing in the Gulf on our day off near Pensacola a couple days ago, but it was only Anthony (vocals) who had any success at all!
"Just a few short days from now we're meeting up with acclaimed director Scott Hansen in Virginia to film a video for 'Your Troubles Will Cease and Fortune Will Smile Upon You' off of our new album, In Dreams. We could not be more excited to be teaming up with Scott for this. After seeing his work with Animals as Leaders, we know he will be a good match to take this song to an entire new level. We've also just announced our upcoming European dates we'll be doing this June along with our pals in Suicide Silence at our Facebook page, so head over to check them out. Also, be sure to also check out the remainder of the dates we've got this month on the Explosions II Part Deux tour."

Almah recently entered the studio to record the follow-up to the 2008 album "Fragile Equality." This week the band has started to work on the new releases guitar parts. Brazilian journalist Felix Briano from Fullrock.com has now conducted an interview with Almah's guitarist Marcelo Barbosa about how the new material is going.
Discussing if the new material can be compared to the last album, Barbosa stated "In some parts, but we won't abandon the technical side which is one of the most important features of the band. That time the songs themselves were the central point of the attention and the arragements permeated them with some temperance, which doesn't appear so much in Fragile Equality - the album that I adore. But now it's a different moment and since we express in the music the way we think and the way we live at the moment, it couldn't be the same."
Further excerpts from the interview about the band's recording process can be found below.
Fullrock: You live in Brasília and the rest of the guys are from São Paulo and Caxias do Sul, all the places are in different states in the country with a very big territory. How did the composing become possible in such conditions?
Marcelo: This time it has been a little bit different. It's been a bit faster than in case of the previous CD. We started to exchange some ideas through the Internet. When we had got enough material, we set up an appointment and spent almost a week in São Paulo in order to finalize the songs and the arrangements for the new album and right after that Moreira entered the studio to record the drums. This part has already been finished and this week we start to record the guitars, acoustic guitars and the bass.More...

"Our headlining slot will give the American fans the singular opportunity to experience Zemial live, performing music from our entire discography and including songs from 1991 all the way to 2011 - from the rawest to the most progressive material.

Kill Ritual has posted the following update online;
"After the demise of Imagika, Wayne and I decided to form a new band that would bring life to the music we had been working on after Imagika called it a day. We had a goal in mind of writing music that reflected our influences from thrash, classic, progressive, power, whatever-kicks-ass metal and this required bringing in experienced players that have been there and done that. We were lucky enough to come in contact with Roberto and Danyael, who had the kind of pedigree and experience we were definitely looking for.
"Having both been in bands that have released numerous albums worldwide and toured extensively, they are a perfect fit for this new band. The missing element was, of course, vocalist Josh, who came into the band with the work ethic, experience and attitude that is essential as a vocalist to help the songs take on a life of their own. His unique and identifiable vocal style is the change we needed from our past projects as we definitely had the idea of Kill Ritual taking a new direction from our collective past bands and I think we have achieved that. I mean, what's the point of rehashing what you've already done? I feel the rough demo tracks [we have released] show this and are only a hint of what's to come."
You can check out some of Kill Ritual's demos in the players provided below. More...

A new feature film, titled "Hesher," is set to open in theaters on May 16, 2011 in which the main character was reportedly inspired by late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton - who tragically passed away on September 27, 1986 in a vehicle accident. A trailer for the film, which features Metallica's music throughout, can be found in the player below. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays the title character, commented on Metallica's response to the film by saying;
"They dug the movie. It was a real honor and I took a lot of inspiration for this character from the basis of some of their early albums [and] this guy named Cliff Burton, who played on 'Master Of Puppets' and 'Ride The Lightning'. And when the band saw it, they were like, 'You know what?! He reminds us of Cliff,' and we didn't even tell them that's what we were going for. And they let us use their songs and I was actually moved because I grew up headbanging to Metallica."

"Very intriguing and quite strange for a metal album but surely staying in memory. A vital thing is that it's a photo. We did not want any computer graphics this time or anything artificial or plastic. The same regards the production of the album. We had actually been thinking about getting a painting for the cover but unfortunately we couldn't do it. Maybe next time"
