We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories from metal shows. This week new The Accused frontman Kevin Cochneuer tells us about not just one broken nose sustained in the mosh pit, but two:
I was at The Showbox Market venues here in Seattle catching a Motorhead/C.O.C show, this had to of been like 5-6 yrs ago. I'm rock'n out and going totally crazy in the pit, anyone who has been to a Motorhead show knows that the pit can get pretty crazy! So I'm bebopping around and decide that I'm going to run the other way only to slam face first into the top of some guys head! Instantly knowing I broke my nose! I made my way out of the pit, which seemed to be a mile long at this point, and headed to the restroom to see the damage. Sure enough it was broken. My nose was totaled and hanging out on the right side of my face. As I'm standing there assessing the damage' a passer buy walks in and asks " Hay man are you okay!" To his reply I grabbed my nose and with a quick tug forced it back in to a seemingly normal position. With a gush of blood I said " No problems here buddy!" Then like a true soldier or a total idiot I went back into the pit!
But wait, there's more! Just last year I was at another show with a friend of mine. I want to say it was Overkill at the El Corazon in Seattle and we were both in the pit. Word to the wise just because you have a friend in the pit does not mean its any safer! Okay so I'm rock'n out like usual and my "friend" comes up from behind and pins my arms to my side. Now I'm helpless to any oncoming battery from the nearest caveman. Sure enough, BANG! We get slammed and hit the ground. With my face smashed against the floor and my buddy flailing on top of me like a turtle on his back once again my nose was broken! I know now that if I want to go in to a pit that I stay clear of my friends and keep my head down because you never know who or what is going to come around a brake your face!
I was actually caught on video in a pit at the American Carnage tour that happened last year! You can view it here!!! [-ed: or below] I'm the big guy with the shaved head clearly dominating the center of the pit and yes the long haired guy that is standing next to me is the "friend" from the Overkill show!
That is my pit stories! I hope you enjoy the and I hope you learn something from them!
The Accused recently posted a new music video for the track "Hemline," which appears on the band's 2009 album "The Curse Of Martha Splatterhead."
In addition to new frontman Kevin Cochneuer (previously unannounced), the band added drummer Warren A. Pease earlier this year.
Check back next Tuesday as we share more Pit Stories.
Although normally predisposed towards eating or enslaving human beings, the green skinned monstrosities in A Band of Orcs can still occasionally mourn the passing of members of the pink and squishy race. Giving an orctastic salute to the gothic metal giant Peter Steele, the band recorded a death metal version of "Green Man," which appeared on the recently released "All For None, None For All: A Tribute To Peter Steele."
The orcs weren't satisfied just by causing metal mayhem alone, however, and now the creatures have decided to, um, "speak" about Type O Negative and rampaging in the recording studio. Read on to find out about the real cause of the Deepwater Horizon disaster and what can lead even an orc to feel sad, in-between threats of world domination and taunts of the band's zombie member, of course.
Art of Dying's fifth video update from the band's Avalanche Tour has been posted online and is available for viewing below. You can can also head over to this location to watch the previously uploaded fourth tour video.
Elitist, the latest addition to Season of Mist's Underground Activist roster, will see the release of the band's debut album on June 20th (one day later in North America). This wild piece of old school death metal mixed with sludgecore influences is entitled "Fear in a Handful of Dust." Season of Mist also commented on the band:
"Elitist is emerging on top of a new scene growing rapidly in the United States of America. Hailing from Portland, Oregon the quartet has its roots in the Hardcore scene. Yet under the influence of early Death Metal in the vein of Morbid Angel and a strong dose of Black Metal their sound shifts to something as fresh as radical. The crusty spirit of Sludgecore transparent in chaotic structures, is vomited upon the world with screams of anger and disgust by vocalist Joshua 'Josh' Greene. This is met by the burning hatred of blazing guitars carrying the force of Death and darkness of Black Metal.
"Loud and passionate, Elitist force the world to listen first with their self titled EP 'Elitist' in the year 2009, which was followed by a split 7" with Transient (2011). Having shared stages with Gaza, Trap Thame, Transient and others, the Americans are now ready to unleash the fury of their debut album 'Fear in a Handful of Dust' with the help of Season of Mist."
Elitist also commented on the album: "This is for those of us who observe and recognize the evidence of evil in faith, hypocrisy of government and the poisons of herd mentality. We’ll scream our message of discontent from bloody throats and open wounds."
The cover artwork can found here and the album's track listing is as follows:
1. Burning The Unspoken Gospel
2. Cult Malevolence
3. Ivory Shavings Of The Tools Unknown
4. Black Wool
5. Watch As They Worship, Yet Be Silent
6. Slowly Fucked And Force Fed
7. A Howling Wind
8. Human All Too Human
9. Bound And Bent
10. Toothless And Yawning
11. Tower Of Meth

Atlanta-based sludge collective Sons of Tonatiuh recently unleashed a video for "Consumed," the third track off the band's self-titled debut full-length.
Commented drummer Tim Genius: "Do yourself a favor: When making a video, don’t choose the longest possible song you might have.... unless you plan to test your audience’s attention span. That said, we are pleased to announce that our new video for 'Consumed' turned out rather awesome. It’s minimalistic and we like it that way. At the very least, it’s now more clear that a Sons of Tonatiuh show does not involve little children and traditional Mexican folk-dance -- not always, anyway. Mission accomplished!"

5/13/2011 Drunken Unicorn - Atlanta, GA w/ Primate, Javelina

It's really cool to play with such a varied amount of bands and also all the different nationalities; Brazilian, Austrian, Polish, Norwegian, Canadian and American. Neuraxis is playing some new songs in our set from the new album 'Asylon' and the reaction has been awesome. Speaking of our new album, here's a video guitar lesson of the song 'Savior and Destroyer' for all the guitar freaks out there. Enjoy! "

In other words, more and more illegal sites are joining in every day to, without our permission, give away our new album for free."
"My first instinct was to just stand idly by and accept it. ‘There’s nothing we can do, it’s just what’s going on right now, it’s how it is, blah blah…’ But then, as I was running on the treadmill at my gym, I thought about it deeply. And I got pissed. I realized I’ve been standing idly by at things my whole life. No more." More...
