Tesseract recently completed a tour of North America alongside Protest the Hero and Maylene & The Sons of Disaster. On May 2nd of that trek, the band stopped into Metal Injection's Brooklyn studio to record an acoustic session that is now available online through MetalInjection.net. The band recorded three songs, one being a cover of Jeff Buckley's Dream Brother. Bassist, Amos Williams commented:
"There are very few artists that TesseracT, as a band, can all enjoy. Jeff Buckley is one of them. Ever since hearing Dan's voice on Tess' tunes, covering a Buckley song was something I thought would be cool to try and pull off. We didn't stray too far from the path on this one (that might come later...), though we certainly had fun doing it as well as the other songs. We want to thank the Metal Injection guys for putting this together as well as Taylor for hooking up James and Acle with the sweet sounding guitars."
The three songs recorded are as follows:
2. "Origin (Concealing Fate Pt. 4)"
3. "Dream Brother (Jeff Buckley Cover)"
Danish teutonic thrashers Impalers will begin recording their debut album, entitled "Power Behind The Throne," on November 18th at Six String Records. The recording will be helmed by producer Soren Jensen.
Impalers guitarist and singer Soren Crawack commented: “I look very much forward to record with Søren Jensen. He was one of the first people I looked at, particularly because of his work with the thrash band Evillive, who recorded two of my all time favorite demos with him. Other than that, he is well regarded in the danish metal scene, for being one of the founders of the awesome death metal band Corpus Mortale, as well as his work in his current band Six String Slaughter. It’ll be a great experience, and I’m sure we’ll produce some of the fastest, heaviest, most aggressive thrash ever to come out of Denmark together.”
On April 15th Imaplers released the band's latest demo outing in the form of the CD "A Necessary Evil." Additional details on the band can be found via the Impalers Facebook page.
Sepultura's Andreas Kisser has checked in from the band's North American tour with a new video update, which can be viewed below.

Canadian act Woods of Ypres is on the road in North America for the band's headlining "Pain & Piss" tour, and is also taking fans along for the ride with a series of exclusive tour blogs on MetalSucks. Now half-way through their month-long trek, the group's bassist Shane Madden has posted the second part of the tour blog. An excerpt from the new blog follows:
"I really hope that isn't my appendix. Sudden, inexplicable pain on the road makes you realize it would be an especially inconvenient time to have an organ burst. Also, I think the drummer has gangrene. Poison ivy is devouring his right arm at an exponential rate every day and it just doesn't look right. We're two weeks into this weird trip and no one is falling apart on death's door quite yet, but there have been enough figurative assaults on the organs of the tour machine already. The Midwest is an unforgiving place for what we're doing."
Read the rest of the blog for the full account of Woods of Ypres' journey of pain and piss at this location. You can also check out the band's latest tour video update below.

After previously announcing the band's new album will be titled "Heritage," Opeth has now revealed more details on the upcoming release.
Opeth will release Heritage, the band's third album for Roadrunner, on September 20th. The first video and single will be the song “The Devil’s Orchard." Opeth frontman and guitarist Mikael Åkerfeldt weighed in on "Heritage," saying, "It will be our 10th album/observation. I dig it; we all do. In fact, it feels like I've been building up to write for and participate on an album like this since I was 19."
Åkerfeldt went a little deeper and described the music contained within Heritage, saying, "It's quite intense at times in some 'old' murky way, and quite beautiful and stark at times, if I may say so myself. It's obvious I'm going to say nice things about it since I wrote basically the whole piece, but I guess it will raise a few eyebrows and it certainly is an acquired taste. I think you'll need a slightly deeper understanding of our music as a whole to be able to appreciate this record. I've realized my influences for this album are so diverse that I can't really say what it sounds like. If I can compare it to any other band, it would have to be Opeth, but it's different from the stuff we've done before. I've listened a lot to Alice Cooper for the last year, yet I can't say it sounds like 'No More Mr. Nice Guy'. I hope you'll like it once you hear it."
The album was produced by Åkerfeldt and mixed along with Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, who is also a labelmate of Opeth. Longtime collaborator Travis Smith also worked with Åkerfeldt to create, design and execute the album’s artwork.
The "Heritage" track listing is as follows:
The Devil's Orchard
I Feel the Dark
The Lines in My Hand
Marrow of the Earth
Opeth will also embark on a seven-week, headline tour of the U.S. in support of the album. Dates will be announced shortly.

Dutch melodic metal band Edge of Serenity has announced the recruitment of new drummer Ben Schepers. Vocalist Wietze Halma commented on the lineup change:
"From the moment we played the first song it was clear that Ben was the man for the job. He is talented, experimental and very technical in his playing. And he does all this while always having a monstrous groove! Exactly what we need! It already feels like he's been in the band for years!"
Guitarist Michael Hansen also added, "Ben will kick off the recording of the new Edge of Serenity album as soon as possible. Drum lines are being written and pre-recordings are currently being made, so the process is definitely speeding up."
According to the band, the next Edge of Serenity album will be "heavier, faster, groovier and more melodic and technical" than the 2009 debut "The Chaos Theory." The as-yet-untitled album will be released worldwide in 2011.

Aeternus has posted a series of answers online from fan-submitted questions about the band's upcoming album. You can check out the band's answers below.
1. Is the new album longer than Hexaeon?
Yes it is. Hexaeon could have been longer than what it was, but it was what it is still is.
2. Do we go back to more atmospheric elements from the older (2 first) albums?
Yes, to an extent we do, but that depends on what one means, you know?!
3. Are there death metal elements as heard on the last 3 albums?
Yes there is, we still enjoy Death Metal and we do mix that into our style. Trying of course not to have the listener think about some other DeathMetal band and so forth, but what can you do?!
4. Are there acoustics and so forth on the next album?
We have some cool ideas and material this time with acoustic guitars yes.More...
