Five years since a last studio album, Sweden's The Quill is back with "Full Circle," which is to be released on July 26th, 2011 via via Metalville Records.
The Swedish four-piece has been around since the nineties and went on to release three acclaimed albums on SPV: "Voodoo Caravan" (2001), "Hooray! It's a Deathtrip" (2003) and "In Triumph" (2006).
With the touring cycle for the latter record completed, the band and singer Magnus Ekwall parted ways and The Quill was put on the backburner. Drummer Jolle Atlagic joined Finnish glam act Hanoi Rocks - touring Europe and Japan in the process - and also did a stint in The Real McCoy band alongside Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett. Christian Carlsson (guitar) and Robert Triches (bass) also kept busy with other projects. In 2010, it was time for The Quill again. Songs were written and Magnus Arnar (X-Ground Mower and Soul 78) filled the vacant vocalist spot.

“We were sick of getting lumped in with ‘scene’ and ‘whatever-core’ bands, so we decided to embrace our roots and just go straight black metal on the new album,” says guitarist Steven Bradley. “I'd say 90% of the new record is straight-up black metal, so we had to change our image to match...Because of course that's just as important, if not more so, than the music.”
The first song from Iwrestledabearonce’s forthcoming Century Media Records CD will premiere at www.MetalSucks.net on Thursday, May 19. This will mark the band’s first release since 2010’s "It’s All Happening" three disc deluxe reissue CD.

Drummer Asmodeus of Greek black metal act Naer Mataron has checked in with the following update from the recording studio:
"Studio report part 2: drums recording and hell unleashing! At least the most working days ever, these last 2 days were really hard but in the same time interesting and funny. New studio with new people (great people) involved into that make me happy!
"First day was fuckin' awesome, until now I've never worked in this way but I'm sure this will be another great point on my curriculum as drummer and man! Indra and Kaiadas always stayed closet to me to give me good suggestions and moral support during the recordings and leading me to reach the point that we're looking for: the massacre!
"I'm really sure that with this new album we'll blast the end of mankind, drums sound like a merciless panzer riding the hills, this album I'm sure wiull be an absolute masterpiece of brutality! Stay tuned for more info."

"Perplexed in Chaos," the new video from Chicago metallers Dark Specturm, has been posted online and can be viewed below. The video was filmed in April and directed by Mike Doucet. Dark Specturm bassist Thatcher Markham also commented on the clip:
"Making the video was a grueling, 13 hour ordeal that left all of us exhausted, but the time couldn't have gone towards a better cause. Mike did a great job shooting and putting the video together, it has completely and totally exceeded any expectations we had when we started.
"The concept of the video is a man believing himself to be the antichrist having visions of two demonic beings breaking him out of an insane asylum. The little girls are actually our lead guitarist's twin daughters and were perfect for that dark, creepy feel and as a nod towards The Shining. Thanks for checking this out, we hope you enjoy it."
The "Perplexed in Chaos" video comes off Dark Spectrum's new album "Whisper" and was recorded at Apothica Studios. Joe Tiberi of Mechina once again handled production and recording duties, as well as the mixing and mastering.

Returning after last year’s suffocating debut album "Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh," Encoffination is about to strike back with a new opus to death titled "O’ Hell, Shine In Thy Whited Sepulchres." The album will include up to ten new songs of abysmal, funeral-bound death metal, recorded in Cooper, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia between January and May 2011.
Guitarist/vocalist Ghoat (Father Befouled, Vomitchapel) says of the new album : “Expect pure darkness. Take everything we have done before and turn it up. More death, more gloom, more decay. Guitars will crush, vocals will possess, and the atmosphere of Encoffination will strangle you. We are adding more texture in the riffs, more things to take you by the throat and steal your breath.”
A press release from the band also stated, "Based on Ghoat’s own experiences of working in the funeral industry, O’ Hell, Shine In Thy Whited Sepulchres will be a concept… not in the linear sense, but abstract; from the death of the human form to the sacrifice of flesh into the Earth. The album will be released via Poland’s Selfmadegod Records later this Summer. More info and an official release date will be announced in the coming weeks."

Corey Athos of Flesh Consumed has issued the following statement about the band's upcoming album and current lineup:
"I was put here in King City to write the heaviest album on earth. There is nothing in this town but me, some recording equipment, a guitar, a pen, and a bar in which I am banned for life. The new album will be FC's 3rd full length album and will be released on Unique Leader Records.
"With 'Ecliptic Dimensions Of Suffering,' I was in a very good mood, which in turn I tended to write more of the fast, technical songs. The lyrics were influenced by HP Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Poe, and Ray Bradbury. They were stories conjured up in my mind to take the reader on a journey. After that musical and lyrical approach had been executed, I felt that I had to do something different with FC.
"When Flesh Consumed was started, our goal was to write heavy, grooving songs with great structures. I am going back to those roots with the new album. The lyrics are real, which is an avenue I had not taken in lyrics; only in poetry have I talked about my thoughts and surroundings. When I was younger, there were a few albums which spoke to me and helped me get through rough times. Now it's my turn to give that back. I want to be able to have the fans relate to these lyrics. They are extremely fucked up and express the darkest realms of my psyche.
"More importantly than the lyrics is the music. It will be grooving and heavier than a motherfucker. This will be the soundtrack to the Apocalypse, Armageddon incarnated through sour notes and tones. In order to do that, I need the right people. Here are some of the new additions to Flesh Consumed. I will announce the rest of the band at a later time. More...

Swedish black metal act Rev 16:8 has posted a track-by-track break down of the band's latest album "Ashlands." You can check out the commentary from the band about each song below.
1. Agenda [Music: Nefastus, Lyrics: Talon]
Background: 'Agenda' was the second finished track for the album and was conceived by Nefastus in Creeper Sounds in early 2010. The initial thoughts regarding the song was to make it a fast, straight forward piece of Black Metal. Initially when the guitars and the drums were presented the vocal arrangements were an easy fit thanks to the open style of the material. After several listens the lyrics were written, and along with final edits it didn't take long to consider the track finalized.
Lyrics: Life is seen as the disease it is, where the physical and the abstract are the very same and just as meaningless, also time is introduced. Time is the narrator and serves as a reminder and to the reader a vanitas in written format.
2. Ashlands [Music: Nefastus, Lyrics: Talon]
Background: The making of the title track was an extensive process and a tough one to finish. For a long time 'Ashlands' consisted solely of two guitar riffs. When the song eventually started to unfold all the rest of the bits fell into place quickly. The material stretches a bit between styles and it shows in the end result. The balk of the lyrics were already written before the actual song was composed. The breaks and the twists the end material took made for a smooth and a more interesting implementation of vocal arrangements.
Lyrics: The title track is about the journey through emancipation and the liberation from the physical. It's a journey through inner conclusions to outer interpretations to the celebration of life's beautiful insignificance.More...

The sound of Across Tundras has hints of metal, psychedelic, folk, country, and blues; pretty much any style of music you can imagine. All of these clashing musical genres somehow make sweet music, and the band harnesses this power to craft earthly, raw albums that lean far away from any kind of linearity.
Their latest album, “Sage,” continues this direction with better production and a stronger chemistry between vocalist/guitarist Tanner Olson, bassist Matt Shively, and drummer Dan Catron. I was scheduled to have a chat with Olson, but got a pleasant surprise when Shively joined in the conversation to offer his perspective on “Sage.” The interview jumps between the two musicians, as they discuss a wide variety of topics regarding the band’s love of demoing material and the importance of the record on a personal level. Sven goes on the record exclusively with Metal Underground to discuss the new Aborted album, the reception to System Divide and the struggles of juggling two bands at once. More...
