Pit Stories: A Gift Of Violence
It's Tuesday again already? How about another epic Pit Story then?
This week we get a tale from Hollow Bones, reminiscing about a chaotic night where a crowd of music fanatics came together to send off a beloved band with a frenzied gift of violence! Hollow Bones vocalist Patrick Anthony tells the story like this:
The year was 2014. We were at the Loft for Breathtaker’s farewell show. The glory days of Poughkeepsie shows had long since passed. Tuesday night local shows, with a turnout of 200 kids was a distant memory clung to desperately by veterans of the local scene. However, when some of those veterans happened to be in a band that had been around since the aforementioned glory days is throwing a farewell show, people come out. They come out in droves, and they come out to fucking party.
This was one of those occasions that will go down as a legendary night in local show history. The crowd was warmed up throughout the night by all the other local bands, but the moment Breathtaker came out on stage, the entire room turned utterly violent. One of our friends started moving the pit from one end of the room, all the way to the bar in the next room over, then came back swinging, jumped onto the stage, kicked a number of people in the face, all before diving face first into a sea of swinging fists. At one point there wasn’t even a pit in the general sense of the word. It was just people fighting each other. Punching each other in the back of the head, in the face, kicking each other, falling down, getting stomped on, etc. and at the end of it all, no one was mad. No one took any of that anger away with them. We offered it up to our friends as a gift for their last performance.
It was like all of those nostalgic feelings that people held onto were being manifested that night on the floor of the Loft, while a soundtrack of breakdowns played over everything. It was pure and utter chaos. There have been plenty of shows that all of us had been to for bigger bands that had awesome pits, where people climbed on each other, and swung hard. But this was special. This was our night to relive our memories, and send our friends off the best way that we could.
Hollow Bones will self-release new album "Lionheart" on May 27th, 2016. The album can be pre-ordered now at this location. More...
Avatar Releases New Music Video
Avatar has debuted a new music video for the track "The Eagle Has Landed." Directed by longtime collaborator Johan Carlén, this official music video comes from forthcoming LP "Feathers & Flesh."
Vocalist Johannes Eckerström explains: "During the past few months I've ended up saying 'this is our most ambitious work to date' quite a bit, but this one takes the cake. While still keeping it in the family we've created yet a new universe for everyone to get immersed in. A fable is a metaphor to explore the human condition and we've taken it one step further, zooming in on one song and what it has to say in and out of itself beyond the frames of the concept of 'Feathers & Flesh.'
"This is the story of five conmen traveling around the land, selling their snake oil to the easily persuaded people of the soil. Often when we want karma to bite someone's ass the most, they always seem to get away. It was fun to play the bad guy for once. I think the visuals and our treatment of the classic one take-concept speaks for itself. This is one of those you'll want to watch over and over again. I know I'm already doing just that. Enjoy!" Mistur Releasing "In Memoriam"
It's been a long wait since Norway's Mistur made its mark on the world with debut, "Attende." Fortunately, the wait has not been in vain. The band's latest full-length, "In Memoriam," sees Mistur return with long and layered arrangements, clever melodies, and and progressive elements.
Mistur was forged in Sogndal, Norway by Espen Bakketeig and Andre Raunehaug, and joined shortly thereafter by Stian Bakketeig (Vreid, ex-Windir, ex-Cor Scorpii). Following just one demo, the group landed a deal with Einheit Produktionen, who would release the "Attende" debut in 2009. Apart from some festival shows and a tour however, the band fell dormant for a short time, before the work on the follow-up album started.
With new vocalist Oliver Øien and new drummer Tomas Myklebust, Mistur is back and more potent than ever before. "In Memoriam" was captured in Conclave and Earshot Studios as well as the band's private studio, produced by Mistur mainman Espen Bakketeig, and mixed by Bjørnar E. Nilsen (Black Hole Generator, Vulture Industries).
Already issued in Europe late last month via Dark Essence Records, the label will unleash "In Memoriam" in North America on May 27th, 2016 on CD. The track listing is:

Grave Desecrator Posts New Track
Cult death/black metal horde Grave Desecrator is streaming another new track taken from vicious forthcoming full length, "Dust to Lust." The track, titled "A Witching Whore" is streaming below.
"Dust to Lust" features artwork from Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Beh emoth and more) and will be released by Season of Mist worldwide on July 1st.
Regarding the new track, guitarist and vocalist Butcherazor comments: "The track 'A Witching Whore' is based on a narrative about a mystical and unknown character from Rio de Janeiro in the XVIII Century, known as 'Bárbara dos Prazeres' ('Barbara of the Delights'). She was probably an even more gruesome and bloody Brazilian version of the infamous Elizabeth Bathory. We are the first band to evoke Bárbara's memory in music. She was a famous prostitute in Rio at the time, yet over the years she grew depraved.
"In witchcraft and black magic she found a possible solution to bring her once splendorous beauty back: virgin blood! Barbara was responsible for bloodbaths sacrificing hundreds of newborn children. We are musically expressing all the torments this woman carried out on her victims with harsh riffs dragged from a devastating foundation, an outstanding guitar solo, as well as highlights reflecting the apex of pain. Even most people living in Rio have not heard about this horrendous story.
"This veiled secrecy and dark contrast with open and 'sunny' Rio that most of you might associate with this city give the essential grey touch to this song. Embark onto this journey, where death is certain, but can come painfully slow." More...
