Siren Aims To Set The Kingdom Aflame
Cincinnati-based blackened doom metal act Siren will release debut full-length album "A Kingdom Aflame" via Draconum Records on May 30th, 2015.
“From the beginning we realized Siren had a mind of its own,” says co-guitarist/vocalist Dave Spicer. “We couldn’t sit still long enough for doom, we wouldn’t hold back on the riffs for black metal and the ‘clean’ vocals just added to the confusion. So early on we set aside the labels and guidelines, and I think that was the best decision we could have made. It was honest from the start and it’s an honesty you can hear when it’s all said and done.”
New single "The Devil Rides Out" can be heard below, and the album's full track listing is as follows:
01. Fire & Blood
02. Into the Starless Night
03. Ursine Lineage
04. Bastard of the Dreadfort
05. And the Skies Mourned Her Light
06. Hiraeth
07. The Devil Rides Out
08. A Kingdom Aflame
“Lyrically the album has a strong sense of finality to it,” says co-guitarist/vocalist Jared Compton. “Every song deals with the proverbial ‘it’ that comes crashing down and, more importantly, how one chooses to answer it – to submit to it or to harness it. The use of fire as a symbol throughout the album is to communicate the idea of a destructive force but also something that can be used to fuel great things.”
Drums for the album were tracked by Dave Voll of Iron Forge studios (Cincinnati), while all other tracking and mixing was performed by bassist Sam Curtis at his own studio. The album was mastered by Same Wale Productions (UK) with artwork being supplied by Jennifer Warner (Exura of Winterhymn). More...
Apneica Releasing "Pulsazioni... Conversione"
Apneica's "Pulsazioni... Conversione" is due to drop on May 21st, 2015 via Club Inferno Entertainment. The label comments:
"'Pulsazioni… Conversione' is a brilliantly crafted little jewel that takes both the fragility and passion of humanity and moulds it into musical/lyrical concept that turns around the meaning of the water seen as human being 'journey' scenario.
"Delicate melodies and mighty distortion sound are the principles on which Apneica has his roots trying to give people great emotions. There will be everything from the traditional doom metal of bands like My Dying Bride, to the avantgarde post doom of Neurosis and Isis, but also the darkness that characterizes the decadent anthems of the Swedish dark gothic music of Opeth and Katatonia… each single element delivers you to dream. Great mastering at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden by Tony Lindgren."
The track listing is:
1. Alba Artificiale
2. Assenza Di Gravità
3. In Orbita
4. Pulsazioni... Conversione More...
The Oath Posts "Deconstruction" Video

Janis Bukums Covers "Creep"
Hailing from Latvia, Janis Bukums just released a music video for the group's cover of "Creep" by Radiohead.
The music video's initial screening took place during a presentation of new album “Dzivs un Savadaks” ("Alive and Different") on March 26th. The band also comments:
"'Creep' is one of the 11 songs on the new album and is the only cover version included in the album and also the only song in English. Janis Bukums sung this cover in collaboration with Aija Vitolina. This creates a fresh perspective on the sound of 'Creep,' as well as interesting visuals in the music video. The video is provocative with sexy cabaret outfits, ambiguous shots and multifaceted visual messages."
Aija Vitolina comments: “The experience was interesting! Working on the music video was easy since both Janis Bukums and the video director had clear vision about the end result. Janis has a very colorful vocal timbre and I am happy that he has returned to rock music.”
Video director Hardijs Cibulskis adds: "I hope that we have successfully passed over the message of the song to the listeners in a way that everyone can relate to in some way: for some, a story about difficult childhood, for others – about unrequited love, for some – running away from one’s essence and means to achieve it.” More...

Sunday Old School: Nile
History is a subject which may have bored many people in school, but even those who dozed off during lessons will agree that along with the occult and war, it makes for one of the best topics for heavy metal. Motorhead for example has written several songs about famous wars, as well as an album entitled, "1916," while Iced Earth took things further with a concept album about the American Civil War. Iron Maiden approached the culture of ancient Egypt on their fifth album, "Powerslave," and other bands have touched on it too. But for one band, this wondrous civilisation was to inspire not only their lyrics, but their album titles and even their name. Far away from the Pyramids, in Greensville, South Carolina in fact, this band came to life, under the moniker, Nile.
The group emerged from the remnants of a thrash metal band called Morriah, who achieved success locally and were able to perform some shows with the then emerging death metal champions such as Morbid Angel. After their dissolution in the early nineties, member Karl Sanders decided to form a new, heavier band, joined by bassist and vocalist, Chief Spires and drummer, Pete Hammoura. Their first release came two years after forming, with the 1995 EP, "Festivals of Atonement," which was distributed via their own label, Anubis Records. It circulated strongly and helped them to build up enough of a fan base to support the likes of Obituary and Deicide amongst other death metal giants. More...
