Pit Stories: The Zombie Wall Of Death

Flailing limbs, wheelchair crowd surfing, overturned cars, lost teeth, and mid-show coitus - heavy metal has a million and one Pit Stories and we're going to unearth them all!

This week The Great Discord shares the following tale of a shambling zombie wall of death at a Skinless show:

So we went to this Skinless concert in France at the Hellfest festival in 2008. We were standing in the middle of the crowd when the vocalist called for a wall of death. “What a swell idea” we all thought! So the crowd divided itself down the middle, it was probably around two or three thousand people there. They played this sample from the stage about someone having sex with an amputee. The singer instructed everyone not to do this the regular way but rather as a bunch of fumbling zombies.

When the song began it was basically like everyone got drunk at the same time. So we started walking slowly towards each other looking like a bunch of senior citizens with inner ear infections. It took a while, but we reached the other crowd and everyone just kind of leaned on each other, it was bizarre!

We all laughed so much that we didn't notice when the “zombies” turned into a regular mosh pit. An arm came flying out of no where and knocked one of Fia's front teeth out. The dentists had a hard time making it symmetrical again and if you look closely at one of our teasers or videos you can actually notice one of Fia's front teeth sticking out a little further than the other. So thank you Skinless for lulling us into a false sense of security! Awesome show though.

Valborg Posts "Sulphur Vitriol Angel" Video

Today German dark, primitive metal trio Valborg undrapes fifth full-length "Romantik" via Temple Of Torturous. In observance of its release, today the band brings fans and curious onlookers the twisted visual accompaniment to fourth movement, "Sulphur Vitriol Angel."

The disquieting clip was created by German artist Soheyl Nassary who chose the song and shaped the concept, commenting: "My work is based mostly on a visual idea, which tells a story and creates a mood by default through targeted production. The floral theme is a game with Romantik stereotypes and thus to contextualize the Valborg song/music theme."

Check out the video below, courtesy of No Clean Singing. The album's full track listing is as follows:

1. Vampyr
2. Blitz aus Sodom
3. Comtesse
4. Sulphur Vitriol Angel

The FTW Streams Entire Debut Release

Today, the debut release "Vendetta Kind Of Mood" from New York's The FTW is unleashed. You can purchase a copy from the band at this location, at Bandcamp over here or through iTunes.

As a special treat for fans, Metal Underground.com is proud to present you with a full album stream of "Vendetta Kind of Mood," which you can hear in the player below.

So who is The FTW? Well, It’s an acronym that can be seen all across our great nation. It sits proudly next to 1% patches on filthy, greasy leather jackets and flies arrogantly on the backs of Harley Davidson motorcycles.

What does it mean? Fuck The World: A credo shared by bikers, punks and freak flag flyers worldwide.

The FTW is also the name of Michael Dolan’s new band. Dolan earned his own stripes touring the world with the surf punk outfit, The Turbo A.C.’s. But now he has his sights set on heavier horizons. He joined forces with underground guitar legend, The Major Nelson, and percussion powerhouse J.J. Meraz.

The FTW plays a brand of heavy NWOBHM rock and roll citing influences with bands like Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Motorhead. The Major’s thrashing, bluesy crank riffs meld brutally with Dolan’s Disciples of Lemmy Rickenbacker Bass and his Marshall stack cranked up to ‘Eleven!’

With the band’s latest LP Vendetta Kind Of Mood, The FTW is currently crushing skulls in clubs all around New York City and the world is next. The FTW keeps the torch burning, and burning brightly, for straight ahead high-octane metal and balls-to-the-wall rock and roll.

The track list for the album is:

1. Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself
2. Who Crowned You King
3. Pill
4. Minotaur
5. Billy Bats
6. Axe to Grind
7. Bleed Out
8. Demonize
9. Pull Your Patch
10. Pound of Flesh

We are proud to present the album here: More...

Bethlehem Breaks Up

The long ride has come to an end: after 2014's "Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia" release, Bethlehem is calling it quits. Jürgen Bartsch of the German outfit Bethlehem had this to say:

"Game over! Hey guys. Bethlehem has split up and does a break. If there will be a comeback or won't isn't certain yet. Obviously isn't. Bethlehem has to stay pure anarchy - against all odds - and certainly isn't a playground for wannabes. The fuck off.

"All shows for 2015 got canceled, NYC (Stardust) & Austria (Sick Midsummer) already have found a surrogate. Information can be requested from the organizers. NYC would be done at another time if this band should dare a comeback. If so, this first would result in a new longplayer anyways. Fingers (double) crossed! More...

Bullet For My Valentine Reveals New Album Details

Bullet For My Valentine today unveils plans to release 5th studio album "Venom" on August 14th via RCA Records.

Check out first song "No Way Out" below. New album "Venom" was produced by Carl Bown and Colin Richardson (Slipknot, Machine Head, Trivium) at Metropolis Studio in London.

“It's pretty hard to sum up an entire record after spending so much time writing and recording it and all the blood, sweat and tears that have come with this one especially,” says frontman Matt Tuck. “It wasn't easy revisiting some very dark places to come up with lyrical content for this one, but once I knew where it was heading and I was comfortable with letting certain things out - all hell broke loose. It's easily the most aggressive record we've ever done and lyrically it will no doubt touch a nerve with a lot of people that listen to it. I cannot express enough how proud I am of it, and can't wait for everyone out there to hear it too. We've reinvented who we are and are ready to take on the world once more.”

Discussing the "No Way Out Track," Tuck adds: “To write this track I had to put myself into a very dark place, a place I hadn't been to for a while mentally because of how my life is now, compared to what it was before the band exploded. It is one of, if not the, heaviest tracks we've ever recorded musically and lyrically. I've lived with it for a while now but still every time I hear it, it gives me chills. Hold on tight it's a hell of a ride.”

In addition to the news of the upcoming record, Bullet For My Valentine has also announced the recruitment of fellow Welsh musician Jamie Mathias as the group's new bassist and backup vocalist. More...

Poltergeist Re-Issuing "Nothing Lasts Forever"

Outside of Celtic Frost and Coroner, the average metal head in the ‘80s probably couldn’t name a heavy metal band from Switzerland to save their lives. But for underground fiends the world over, Poltergeist was always a thrash group that deserved more attention that it got during the band's first time around the block.

Forming in 1987, Poltergeist signed with then upstart label Century Media Records after releasing two demos. Their partnership led to the release of two obscure thrash albums: 1989’s "Depression" and 1991’s "Behind My Mask."

As the international metal scene’s tastes shifted in the early ‘90s, Century Media pressured Poltergiest to change styles and fit into the death metal realm. Instead of cowering to the label’s demands, the band remained focused and crafted what would become 1993’s "Nothing Lasts Forever." Despite the artistic triumph the album became, the band broke up in 1994 after one last tour with fellow countrymen Coroner.

Divebomb Records is thrilled to present "Nothing Lasts Forever" in a special deluxe edition reissue coming June 23rd. The liner notes contain archival photos and features a new interview with Poltergiest founding member V.O. Pulver conducted by Carlos Ramirez of NoEcho.net. Not only has the album been remastered by Pulver himself, it also includes the group's debut demo (1987) and its 1988 follow up, "Writing On The Wall." The track listing is: More...

Kadavar Enters The "Eye Of The Storm"

The Berlin, Germany-based classic rock overlords from Kadavar (Nuclear Blast) have shot a video with contemporary artist dust in Bern, Switzerland for the song "Eye Of The Storm."

The song comes off the band’s most recent album "Abra Kadavar: and marks the end of the 2 year cycle promoting the album by relentless touring across the globe. Nuclear Blast comments:

"The unique symbiosis of rock and street art united in a video is what makes this video so special. The story is quite simple: Kadavar and dust meet in Bern, hang out together, and Kadavar hits the stage as dust paints a mural.

"How did it happen? Although Kadavar spent the last three and a half months, non-stop, recording the new LP, a big concern for the guys from Kadavar was a final tribute to the last album, which should be something special. So, the common idea of this crossover project with the internationaly-renowned street artist, David Stegmann aka dust, arose."

Drummer Tiger adds: "When you combine auditory and visual impressions together, it can always create something new. We found it very exciting from the start, putting out our feelers and combining one one of our songs with street art. The video should feature a live perfomance of us, so we wanted to play a song, which simply has power. That's why we both thought ‘Eye Of The Storm." More...

Sodom Cancels MDF Appearance

Sodom has cancelled a scheduled appearance at the annual Maryland Deathfest - scheduled for this weekend in Baltimore - due to an issue with visa paperwork.

The post on Facebook reads: "The government approved the visa petition for SODOM, but then failed to send the required documents that would have allowed the band to actually get their visas despite repeated attempts by the MDF and the band to get those documents. The parties have been unable to get any answer from the government as to why the documents were never received by MDF or the band. The band is incredibly frustrated by this and so are we. We take a lot of pride in doing everything in our power to get foreign bands to the states , but it's really hard for us to swallow when the incompetence of the U.S. government messes something up."

The band was scheduled to headline in Edison Lot A on Saturday, May 23rd. Tickets for the fest can still be had by visiting this locaiton.

Damnation Angels Parts Ways With Vocalist

U.K. based symphonic metal act Damnation Angels has split with Norweigan vocalist Per Fredrik PellK. The decision was mutual and in the works for some time now. The band recently issued the new album "The Valiant Fire" in Europe back in March and will issue it in North America on June 23rd via Massacre Records.

The band posted the following on its Facebook page: "We're sorry to say that after 5 years together, we're parting ways with PelleK. It's a mutual decision that has been on the horizon for quite some time. Per Fredrik has a lot going on in his life and simply can't commit the amount of time that we require from him. As things with the band get busier and busier, we need someone who can commit a serious amount of time to the band, and Per Fredrik simply can't fulfill this duty. We remain friends out of the band and wish him all the best for the future.

"So we plan on doing the Iron Maiden 2 album singer trick...it's time to find our Bruce Dickinson! The search for our new singer begins now, we're searching worldwide with no limits. Anyone from anywhere can apply. Simply click this link to download an instrumental version of one of our tracks and send us a link to you singing it on YouTube."

PelleK commented: "Hey guys. After 5 incredible years of touring and recording with Damnation Angels, I have decided to let someone else take my position as lead singer of the band. The reason is simple. As many of you know I've been very busy lately playing the lead role in an international cinema movie, singing for several video game companies and TV productions, playing concerts abroad, writing albums, making YouTube videos etc, and in addition to this there are many TV and movie related things coming up that I can't announce yet that will require a lot of my time.

"My former band members Will and John Graney have been like a second family to me, and I've learnt so much from them, so I wanna say thanks to those two. To all the Damnation Angels fans I've met on the countless U.K tours, the Europe-tour and in the U.S.A: Performing for you have been totally amazing. I'll never forget!"

5FDP Touring With In This Moment, Papa Roach

After an on-stage melt down that had many thinking the band had broken up, Five Finger Death Punch has revealed new tour dates with Papa Roach, In This Moment, and From Ashes To New. Says Zoltan Bathory of Five Finger Death Punch:

“This tour is shaping up to be the perfect storm. We are really good friends with Papa Roach so for years we've been talking about touring together and it’s finally coming together in a big way. Both 5fdp and Papa Roach are bands of the people - our fans are who propelled us to success. So what better way than to give the fans ownership in the tour? In the world of Wikipedia and Kickstarter where crowd funding and crowd sourcing has become the standard of community effort and the new way of making things happen this might quite possibly be the future of touring - you simply ask the fans where they want you to go."

"We are super excited to be sharing the stage on this co-headliner with FFDP,” says Papa Roach vocalist, Jacoby Shaddix. “This will give Papa Roach the chance to put on the best, most epic live show to date. Our fans are going to be so stoked for these shows coming up. We seriously can't wait to get out on the road for this tour." More...
