Gruesome Covers Slayer

The cast of Gruesome (the Schuldiner-hailing collective featuring members of Exhumed, Possessed, Malevolent Creation and Derketa) today untethers a very special cover of Slayer's "Black Magic."

The band's reconfiguration of the old-school appears on the deluxe digital edition of the band's "Savage Land" full-length.

"We chose our cover tunes the same way we tried to write the album," relays guitarist/vocalist Matt Harvey. "We just did what Chuck [Schuldiner] would have done. Death was never a band particularly known for their cover song repertoire, but they did occasionally close their set with a rendition of 'Black Magic' and it's a cover that dates as far back as an old 1984 Death/Mantas rehearsal, so we felt it would be appropriate. We were considering 'The Exorcist' by Possessed, since Death started recording a cover of it during Individual Thought Patterns, but since [Gruesome guitarist] Dan [Gonzalez] is in Possessed, it was a bit weird. Again, we tried to approach the song as Death doing a Slayer cover, so... hopefully we came close to the mark."

Raise your horns to Gruesome's take on Slayer's "Black Magic," currently streaming below. You can also hear all of Gruesome's new album over at this location. More...

Dysentery Reveals "Fragments" Details

Comatose Music welcomes back Boston slam tyrants Dysentery for a multi-album deal, the first of which will be "Fragments" on July 10th. Comatose comments:

"The terror campaign begins with the release of 'Fragments,' a violent fusion of guttural deathgrind and groove laden beat down. This album is the band's most punishing slab of precision brutality to date.

"The effort was engineered, mixed & mastered by Adam Rourke at the RedRoom in Waltham, MA to ensure a high quality aural clobbering. To match the musical intensity, the band enlisted Marco Hasmann (Fleshgod Apocalypse, Septycal Gorge) to help bring the visual pummeling to life with the cover art.

"In support of the release, the band will be making their way all over the U.S. in 2015 to spread their volatile death metal attack. Appearances at the Las Vegas Deathfest, Building Temples From Death Fest, Colorado Gutfest, New Jersey Deathfest and a tour of the west coast are just the beginning of their campaign of carnage. With the subtlety of a brick to the face, Dysentery are primed to once again to decimate eardrums with 'Fragments.'" More...

Entrails Obliterates The Competition

With the final descent of "Obliteration," the imminent new long player from Swedish death metal legion Entrails, now less than two weeks away, today you can hear the coffinated sounds of latest single, "Obliterate." Check it out below.

Captured by guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist at his own Bloodshed Studios and mixed and mastered by legendary musician/soundsmith Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, Aeon, Hail Of Bullets etc.) at Unisound, "Obliteration" is a snarling beast of a record boasting nine harrowing psalms of auditory revulsion shrouded in ceaselessly morbid atmospheres that uphold the truest traditions of old-school Swedish brutality.

"I guess Entrails have sold their souls to the devil," said Dan Swanö upon the record's completion, "because there is no other way to explain how a band that's been doing the same style of SweDeath for more than twenty years, can keep making better and better records! In fact, some of the tracks on this album are among the best death metal songs I have ever heard. Such a great album...it pisses me off!" More...

Impure Wilhelmina Signs With Season Of Mist

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Impure Wilhelmina, and the Swiss post-hardcore veterans have already begun working on their next album to be released by the label in 2016. Regarding the signing, Impure Wilhelmina comments:

"We are delighted to announce to have signed with Season of Mist. We are honored to write our name on the roster of a label that promotes so many inspiring bands. Season of Mist is at the crossroads of numerous metal streams that have strongly contributed to forge our specific sound. This new home seems to suit us perfectly! This collaboration encourages us immensely in working on our next album that we've already started writing..."

Season Of Mist also had this to say: "Founded in 1996, Geneva’s Impure Wilhelmina drew their moniker from the heroine of Bram Stoker’s classic tale. They drew influence from the aggressive creativity of their contemporaries in the metallic and emotional hardcore scenes exploding in both Europe and North America at the time, as well as the angsty personal songwriting exemplified by the early grunge movement.

"Following their self-titled debut, Impure Wilhelmina have constantly reshaped their style and turn each of their albums into standalone artistic expressions, all while keeping the band's unique approach to intense, melodic, and expressive post-hardcore."
