Lordi Documentary To Play At DOXA Film Festival
The Finnish documentary "Monsterman" by director Antti Haase celebrates its international premiere on Saturday, May 9th at the DOXA Documentary Film Festival in Vancouver.
"Monsterman" tells the story of the heavy metal monster band Lordi that unexpectedly won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, along with front man Tomi Putaansuu (aka Mr. Lordi): a real-life drama about a boy who wanted to be a monster and who did everything to live his dreams.
The movie was produced by Illume Ltd (Finland) in co-production with Film i Väst AB (Sweden), JAB Film AS (Norway), and Common Ground Pictures AB (Sweden). The following press release was issued about the documentary:
"As a kid Tomi Putaansuu created his own monster fantasy world, in which he – now in his early forties – still lives. The heavy metal band Lordi resulted from this world and Tomi does everything for it. In 2006 they were – against all odds – the first Finnish act ever to win the Eurovision Song Contest. Five years later, they are hundreds of thousands of euros in debt and aren't selling any
gigs. Tomi is forced to close the Lordi-restaurant and the highlight of the year seems to be a performance for a group of Russian travel agents in the 'Santa Claus Village'. Despite all of this, Tomi, with full support from his parents and friends, stays true to his dreams and hangs on to his ideal world of monsters. Will his faith and perseverance ensure a comeback of the band?"
Director Antti Haase comments: “Tomi and I grew up in the same town. In the early 1980s we used to play super hero games in the magic forests behind the Santa Claus Village together with the other kids from our neighborhood. I wanted to understand why I grew up to be an adult, and Tomi never did. At the same time this film shows that Lordi is not just a latex clown performing simple hard rock tunes from the 1980s. I have found a creative genius and hidden world of beauty, tragedy and comedy behind the mask of my beast friend.”

Katagory V Releases Final Album
"Resurrect The Insurgence" is Katagory V's 5th and final album, produced by bassist & chief songwriter Dustin Mitchell, and mixed & mastered by Dennis Ward (Unisonic, Pink Cream 69, Primal Fear, Angra).
The album was completed and initially set to be released in late 2011, but was delayed for several years due to financial issues and the lack of label interest; it was ultimately shelved after the band's August 2014 Indiegogo campaign failed to generate enough money to release it in various formats independently. Misery Index Releases New Video
Baltimore death metal outfit Misery Index has released a new video for the track "The Harrowing," available below thanks to Lambgoat.com.
The clip was directed by David Hall/Handshake Inc. and "The Harrowing" is taken from the band's new album "The Killing Gods." Regarding the new video, Director David Hall comments:
"In February, Jason Netherton asked me if I would be interested in making a second video for 'The Killing Gods' for the track 'The Harrowing.' Of course, the answer was ‘yes’ and we started talking about ideas. Jason had the concept of some sort of nefarious cult or gang that kidnaps someone, tortures them, tries to indoctrinate them, and eventually kills their victim. After some research and thought we came up with the idea of a Zodiac style outfit, just because the associated meaning is kind of open ending, and honestly, it’s creepy as hell.
"So, while the costumes were being made, Jason and I did some location scouting and watched a bunch of weird cult videos and such and mapped the basic plot. The band also had some great footage filmed in Europe on their tour last summer, so we decided to incorporate that as well. After the initial cut, I felt something was missing a bit, so we had Jeff singer/guitarist Mark Kloeppel film some footage performing the song, which was shot by Jeff Grindstopher of Grindstopher productions, and we decided to incorporate some of the killer artwork Gary Ronaldson of Bite Radius Designs had created for 'The Killing Gods' album. I feel this video is a bit of a departure from some of the stuff I normally do, which I am really happy about.
"To me this feels like a classic metal video…some great shots of the bands performing, creative footage to mirror some of the meaning of the song, and a little bit of the old ultraviolence. On a side note, when we were filming some of the Zodiac dudes in a field, a concerned citizen called the police and reported “a bunch of big, masked dudes in a field wearing crosses are up to no good.” At least the cops had a sense of humor about it when they showed up." Temple Of Dagon Announces New EP
West Coast crust collective Temple Of Dagon will unleash the "Revelations Of The Spirit" EP this June via Black Voodoo Records.
Tracked and mixed by Alex Estrada (Xibalba, Touche Amore, Silver Snakes et al) at Earth Capital Studios in Los Angeles, California and mastered by Dan Randall (Cannabis Corpse, Iron Reagan, Fucked Up et al) at Mammoth Sound, "Revelations Of The Spirit" is a four track manifestation of audio punishment based on the life and times of central character, the Horrid King.
It's the sound of self-loathing, self-reflection, self-acceptance and self-love. "Sometimes we lose ourselves in the eyes of other people and forget our own perspective," espouses the band. "Eventually we learn that we need to get back to the being we're meant to be and not let outside influences affect our purpose. The 'revelation of the spirit' is the moment when you realize you have lost your path and the time to return to your true self is upon you."
1. The Evocation
2. The Horrid King
3. The Wandering Spirit
4. Nexus Of Reality
Influenced by '90s-era crust, stenchcore, death metal, thrash, and Lovecraftian lore, Temple Of Dagon was forged in 2009 and quickly reaped an underground following with the release of the clobbering "Book Of Azathoth" EP. Following a glut of shows and various personnel changes, the band went on to record and self-release the 2010 debut, "Rituals Of The Deep."
"Revelations Of The Spirit" will be unleashed on June 9th, 2015 digitally and on 10" vinyl via Black Voodoo Records with preorders to be announced in the coming weeks. See the band live on these dates: More...

Pro-Pain Releasing "Voice Of Rebellion"
Aggressive, meticulous, passionate, righteous - all distinguishing traits that have come to symbolize the fundamentals of metal/hardcore pioneers Pro-Pain.
Since the band's crushing 1992 NAIRD-nominated debut album "Foul Taste Of Freedom," Pro-Pain has become a staple in the diets of heavy music listeners around the globe up through latest (and 15th) studio effort entitled "Voice Of Rebellion."
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Corey Williams at Sound Lounge Recordings (Venice, Florida), "Voice Of Rebellion" features 14 punishing tracks. Production credits are shared by Williams and Pro-Pain main man Gary Meskil.
"This time around, I decided to get back into assisting with certain aspects of production, and we are thrilled with the end result. Corey is a young and talented engineer/producer, and the sonic brutality we collectively achieved speaks for itself (in my opinion)," says Meskil.
Lead guitarist Adam Phillips states: "The writing process for Voice Of Rebellion was a complete collaborative effort, unlike it's predecessor. So, the end result is a multi-dimensional onslaught of heaviness." More...
