Debemur Morti Productions has issued the following announcement about inking a deal with Manii:
"Old school maniacs rejoice: 'Under ein blodraud maane' certainly rings a bell, right? 1999, Norway. Manes' debut album. And damn! What an album it was! Manii is the new old Manes. The new incarnation of their original essence.
"Today, I'm most pleased to announce Manii joins Debemur Morti Productions! To celebrate this partnership, we will unleash, in the coming weeks, a 7" with two old Manes songs completely re-recorded with Bornyhake (Kawir) on drums.
"The chosen hymns are 'i helvetes haller' and 'dansen gjennom skuggeheimen.' Both originally appeared on the 2nd and 3rd Manes demos. In the meanwhile, Cernunnus and Sargatanas are also working on what's to become the second Manii full-length."
Why Manii and not Manes then? Cernunnus explains: "There’s many different small things and issues, that added together became kind of a burden... people’s expectations, our own motivation, the previous history (old-manes vs new-manes), and more… we understand that we probably should use the Manes name for what it’s worth. But we also want to signal 'a new dawn,' a paradigm shift if you want... and that little band-name twist fits well with that. Let there be darkness!" More...

"Propelled by the stunning guitar heroics of brothers Pete and Jake Adams, Virginia's Valkyrie return with their third full length Shadows, one of the year's best guitar-driven, heavy rock records.
"Valkyrie's twin harmonized guitar leads and clean dual vocal assault matched with a strong nod to classic doom and heavy metal creates a psychedelic and heavy sound that pays homage to classic heavy rock bands like Deep Purple and Thin Lizzy while bringing to mind the pastoral and organic sounds of Pagan Altar and Jethro Tull.
"With no regard to current trends, or retro-rock posturing, Valkyrie rides on with a true, classic, heavy metal assault that has turned many heads with its impressive live shows and soul-stirring conviction." More...

Independent hip-hop powerhouse Tech N9ne will drop new album, "Special Effects," on May 4th via Strange Music.
Today Tech N9ne unleashes the metallic side of his persona with the brand new anthem, entitled “Wither,” featuring none other than Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour. Check it out below.
Corey Taylor has often publicly praised Tech and his approach to both hip-hop and heavy music. “Working with Tech was a no-brainer,” states Taylor. “When I heard the music for ‘Wither’, I knew the two of us would make something dark and crazy. The slow burn in the music is awesome- his band is great and the performance is incredible. People are gonna shit!”
Tech is no stranger to the music of Slipknot, having been a dedicated fan for over a decade. “This collaboration is a total dream come true, because I’ve been a Maggot (what Slipknot affectionately calls their fans) since ’99. This song we did together is such a dynamic rollercoaster ride! It starts off calm and cool and then fuckin’ gets loud and extremely mean and crazy! It’s perfect!” More...

On May 11th, Norwegian instrumental outfit Spurv will drop debut album "Skarntyde" in collaboration with No Forevers Records.
Three years after the EP "Blader som faller til jorden og blir til nye trær," the band has composed a new album consisting of four beautiful, massive and heavy tracks. Spurv comments:
"The album was written and recorded during the past two-three years after the previous EP of 2012. We have attempted to challenge our own compositional skills, especially when it came to the song structures and arrangements. The album features music that is more heavy, massive and intense than before, while still focusing on fragile and beautiful melodies. Four songs in 45 minutes isn’t the average everyday radio music, but we think that it should be available listening for many, regardless to whether they have listened to instrumental- and postrock/metal before, or not.
"‘Skarntyde’ is an ambitious album, with complex structures, long melodies and dense polyphonic textures. With three guitars in front, alongside drums, bass, violin and cello, the band creates thought-provoking and emotive music. More...

The one and only Garm (Kristoffer Rygg of Ulver), who provided vocals for the debut self-titled album from Borknagar, has returned to the fold and recorded vocals for the band's upcoming release.
Garm will appear on two tracks for the album, due to drop later this year via Century Media to follow the 2012 album "Urd" (reviewed here). Borknagar's Øystein G. Brun comments:
"These days, 20 years ago, Kristoffer and I hooked up for the very first time in Bergen to record vocals for the Borknagar debut album. Glorious days, indeed. Last night I was barely asleep as I got the first vocal samples from Kristoffer late yesterday evening and have been listening to the songs repeatedly since then. Still trying to get my jaw back in position and the goosebumps seem to have turned chronic on me.
"Being a former bandmate and a huge fan of his work ever since we parted ways back in the days, I certainly did expect a lot, but what he sent over this time around surpasses every expectations. Really! More...
Virginia-based psychedelic sludge faction Akris, led by the low-end conjurings of bassist/vocalist Helena Goldberg, will return to the stage this weekend with two new recruits -- drummer Tim Otis (Admiral Browning) and guitarist/vocalist Paul Cogle (Nagato, Slagstorm, Black Blizzard) -- marking the first time ever Akris performs as a trio. Comments Goldberg:
"Tim Otis is one of my best friends, and I've been a big fan of his drumming in Admiral Browning since I moved down to the northern Virginia area in 2008. When it became evident that Sam Lohman would not be able to continue playing drums for Akris this past January, Tim officially joined the band.
"Soon after, the decision was made to have our mutual friend Paul Cogle join on guitar. This was a huge decision because I have been playing in a two piece band for almost ten years. However, I have been a fan of Paul's music and guitar playing for years, and have always heard and felt that we had very similar approaches to playing and songwriting.
"It has been an absolutely amazing, positive experience preparing our new set over these past few months. I am truly honored to call both Paul and Tim bandmates and friends." More...

The Finnish crossover punks Graveyard Shifters will release "High Heels & Broken Bones" on June 12th via Eternal Sound. Punk, metal, and fiery rock ‘n roll combine for a raucous good time! The band has released the following statement about the new album:
"What´s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear of fucking nut cracking punk 'n' roll from Finland? Add to that picture cover art that is flirting with the traditional, well known Finnish painting 'Aino' from The 'Kalevala'-stories. We´re sure that you´re confused, but curious.
"Anyway, don't get us wrong. We are NOT telling stories about 'Kalevala', hehehehe.. The cover art just tells you what we Finns are like, and how others see us. And it’s the music the really tells you what the Graveyard Shifters are all about! The title of the album comes from life's ups and downs. We will take you to the top of a skyscraper and to the bottom of a cesspool.
"The situation in the world is dangerous at the moment in many ways, and the media is full of propaganda from both sides. People need to take off their blindfolds and remember that it is your job as a human to filter facts from hullabaloo. Our job is to give you a break from all this warfare - We all are ONE, and we are all ONE!"

Senses Fail will be releasing a sixth studio album titled "Pull The Thorns From Your Heart" on June 30th via Pure Noise Records. As a teaser of what’s to come, the band today reveals a video for the track “The Importance of the Moment of Death,” which can be seen below. The new record can be pre-ordered now at this location.
“This record is the complete documentation of my transformative spiritual experience from the darkness to the light,” says front man Buddy Nielsen. “It is the completion of a journey I have been on since I started making music when I was 17. I want this record to be more than just words and music but a blueprint for how through contemplative practice you can come to love, grow and blossom out of the muck of life and into the light. It is not intended to motivate in steps or exact teachings but empower. It is above all a personal story of struggle and realization.”
His journey is told through an intense collection of 11 songs that are sonically a slight departure from Senses Fail’s earlier records.
“I wanted the heaviness and anger of the record to not be matched with equal words of despair but words that show growth and change,” he adds. “Most music that represents change and growth is calmer and less abrasive but I wanted to show that friction is what helps spur action. Without the friction, we wouldn't want to change, we would be content. Out of darkness is ultimately the opposite, the light., but without opposition there would be no urge to change. Half the record represents the darkness and half the record represents the light, or the appearing of light, the flowering of what the experience is.” More...

Relapse Records is excited to announce Goblin Rebirth's new self-titled album, which will see a release on June 30th, 2015.
The group (which features members of Italian film score figureheads Goblin) has revealed an album trailer to give fans a taste of what to expect of the record, which is available to stream below.

The new incarnation of the group contains the famed rhythm section of the original Goblin (drummer Agostino Marangolo and bassist Fabio Pignatelli, who both played on the classic soundtracks to Zombi/Dawn of the Dead, Suspria, Profondo Rosso/Deep Red and more), with the addition of Aidan Zammit and Danilo Cherni on keyboards and Giacomo Anselmi on guitar.
