Watertank Heads Into "Destination Unknown"
Clermont-Ferrand, France-based Solar Flare Records has inducted a new act into the label's realms of auditory dementia, bringing Watertank on board for the impending release of sophomore LP, "Destination Unknown." Solar Flare Records comments:
"Two years after the band's first release, Watertank returns with this nine-track full-length, 'Destination Unknown,' bringing forth nearly thirty-five minutes of brand new material. While the album came together quickly, being composed and recorded with unusually short notice, the LP cohesively reveals a more confident band through this new batch of strongly crafted songs.
"The Nantes-based band is still in love with melodic hooks, and downtuned heavy riffing, as heard especially in cuts like 'Dcvr' and 'Doomed Drifters,' yet sees them evolving from their post-hardcore background in tracks like 'Contrails' and exploring new territories completely within 'Scheme' and the title track, as always aiming to deliver lasting listening enjoyment.
"Once again recorded by Patrice Guillerme (Papier Tigre, Patriotic Sunday) and mastered by Carl Saff (Coliseum, Pilot To Gunner), 'Destination Unknown' marks a step forwards for the renewed lineup. If you're into the likes of Torche, Quicksand, Jawbox, Sense Field and Failure, Watertank will be for you." More...
Self Spiller Streaming Full Re-Issue
Self Spiller is the experimental project led by Agalloch bassist Jason Walton. A truly transcontinental undertaking, Self Spiller features fourteen musicians hand-picked by Walton who composed and overdubbed their individual parts from across the world from the U.S. to Japan to Norway to Canada.
Much of the music was composed without the musicians hearing the entire piece or knowing what other members were adding, thus chance played a fundamental role in the stitching together of songs.
In the end, Walton sifted through dozens of hours of recordings, layered hundreds of tracks, and edited countless performances spanning six years, finally resulting in Self Spiller's debut, the stunning "Worms In The Keys."
Likened to a marriage of Mr. Bungle's "California" and Arcturus' "La Masquerade Infernale," "Worms In The Keys" merges the tenets of post-black metal, ambient soundscapes, video games and even traditional Middle Eastern sounds all filtered through a metal background and a surreal Dada-esque approach to composition.
Originally released in 2012 on limited edition CD, "Worms In The Keys" is now remastered by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst), and will be available for the first time on vinyl via Varia Records next week. In celebration of its official wax debut, you can stream the full album below, courtesy of CVLT Nation. More...

With the release of "Sentinel Apocalypse" now just less than a month away, Skulls 'N' Bones offers up the forbidden sounds of "Falsified Existence" for communal gorging. Check it out below.
"Falsified Existence is a blast-beat infested, riff-drunk guttural onslaught packed into two-and-a-half-minutes of ass-kicking," elaborates the band. "No beating around the bush, no finesse, just Eschaton rying to beat it into your heads that every track on Sentinel Apocalypse is ruthlessly aggressive. The lyrical concept pertains to being repulsed by mankind's failures and that our desperate clinging to the terms of this false reality must be shed." More...

Prosthetic Comments On Signing Deathrite

Guitarist Covers Track From Bloodborne Soundtrack
Guitarist RichaadEB just released a music video for his cover of the "Cleric Beast Theme" from Bloodborne. He also comments:
"I might have gone a bit overboard on this cover (again); I think this has more layers than any other cover I've ever done. My computer was struggling a bit towards the end there, and it even made Reaper crash once. THAT NEVER HAPPENS, REAPER DOES NOT CRASH.
"When I was getting close to being done, I had the idea of shooting at one of Grand Rapid's local chapels or cathedrals to accent the gothic / victorian vibe of the game and settled on the Fountain Street Chapel in the video. Shout-outs to the folks at the chapel who let me dick around like an asshole in their fucking immaculate building for a few hours.
"Also apparently my answer to looking spooky is to wear one of the two hoodies I always wear anyway BUT THIS TIME PUT THE HOOD UP/ Also candles. lots of candles. Thanks again to scoot and toxic for putting up with my bullshit ;_____;
"Extra thanks to my buddies Jake and Garrett for helping me shoot this beast. Shooting on location fucking blows btw. Apparently this is a version of the same piece that plays when you fight Vicar Amelia, so they're pretty darn similar."

The FTW In A "Vendetta Kind Of Mood"
FTW - It's an acronym that can be seen all across our great nation; it sits proudly next to 1% patches on filthy, greasy leather jackets and flies arrogantly on the backs of Harley Davidson motorcycles.
What does it mean? Fuck The World: A credo shared by bikers, punks, and freak flag flyers worldwide.
The FTW is also the name of Michael Dolan's new band. Dolan earned his own stripes touring the world with the surf punk outfit, The Turbo A.C.'s. But now he has his sights set on heavier horizons. He has joined forces with underground guitar legend, The Major Nelson, and percussion powerhouse J.J. Meraz.
The FTW play a brand of heavy NWOBHM rock and roll citing influences such as Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, and Motorhead. The Major's thrashing, bluesy crank riffs meld brutally with Dolan's Disciples of Lemmy Rickenbacker Bass and his Marshall stack cranked up to eleven. More...

We are honored to be a part of the Unique Leader family and we are ready for what is coming up. With our team behind us, we can't wait to see Unbreakable Hatred grow."
Forged in 2008 by guitarist Philippe Drouin, his drummer brother Dominic and vocalist/bassist Simon B. Lapointe, Unbreakable Hatred spews forth a mutinous amalgam of old school death metal brutality, modern technical wizardry, and blistering groove making for relentlessly visceral sound expedition.

The track comes from the band's third studio album, "Miskatonic Graffiti," due out this Summer on Despotz Records. The band commented:
"First single from the Casablanca concept album Miskatonic Graffiti, 'My Shadow out of Time' is about memories of loss on a cosmic scale - of those left on the other side, gone forever? It's about things left in the run, like shadows lost in time. Don't we all lose a few shadows, while making our way through life?"
The upcoming "Miskatonic Graffiti" is a concept album, broken into three sections and based on the stories and events that take place in the small fictional town called "The Mountains." The band describes the concept as if "Ziggy Stardust met H. P. Lovecraft in Twin Peaks." More...

Mike Howe Rejoins Metal Church
Legendary frontman Mike Howe has returned to Metal Church. In the summer of 2014, the band suddenly found themselves in need of a new singer with the departure of Ronny Munroe. As fate would have it, guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof was already in talks with Mike for another project that he was working on with Saxon drummer Nigel Glockler, so he decided to ask Mike to rejoin Metal Church. Mike agreed, but true to form, didn’t want to make it official until he knew for sure that the integrity of the new material was there. In Mike’s own words, "I didn't want to come back to Metal Church just for nostalgia, it had to be for the right reasons, it had to be the best stuff we’ve ever written together or it just wouldn't be worth it to anyone, especially the fans.”
Soon after, Kurdt and Mike began exchanging ideas and writing new material with the band. The end result sounds like "Classic Mike Howe era Metal Church, it’s both heavy and melodic" says Vanderhoof and further states "Mike sounds the same as he did 20 years ago, this is going to be truly epic!!" Drummer Jeff Plate comments, "Mike Howe is the ONLY singer for Metal Church. He has a reputation of complete honor and respect. We can now take Metal Church to the next level!"
Mike Howe originally joined Metal Church in the late 80’s and released 3 albums with the band: "The Human Factor," "Blessing In Disguise" and "Hanging in the Balance." Mike was also the face of popular music videos "Date With Poverty" and "Badlands" that aired during MTV’s heyday.
The band is currently in the process of working on their new album, which will be released later this year via Rat Pak Records.

Demon Lung Releasing "A Dracula"
Candlelight Records today confirms June 16th as the North American release date for "A Dracula," the second full-length album from Las Vegas-based doom metal band, Demon Lung.
Produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, High On Fire, Eyehategod etc.), the album will be available for preorder via Amazon, iTunes and physical retailers beginning May 26th and is available for preorder now at BandCamp.
In mid-December, Demon Lung began a second pilgrimage to Oregon to work with Anderson. At the journey's conclusion, eight dark hymns became the "A Dracula" storyline. Using Juan López Moctezuma's 1977 horror film, "Alucarda," as the album's muse, the audio is packaged with unique original art by illustrator Joshua Foster (Pallbearer).
Drummer Jeremy Brenton notes, "When we started the writing process, we happened to be deep into an Alucarda obsession. [Vocalist] Shanda [Fredrick] sat down and made an outline for her take on the film and we all started crafting songs to flow with it. Fitting the mood of each riff and melody with the narrative was challenging but it is the most satisfying way for us to write."
Fredrick adds, "Alucarda is a more relatable story for me than our last album's subject matter; which made writing a lot more fun this time around. The heroine in this story is the daughter of Satan, who happens to fall in love with the purest of souls in the convent she resides. She coaxes this soul over to the dark, with only intentions of love but in doing so she dooms her to death by the hands of the nuns. The anger consumes her and she uses her dark powers to resurrect her love and together they kill the convent and then the world. So like I said... it's a lot more fun this time around." More...
Morgoth Posts "Traitor" Video
Having recently released the band's first full-length in almost two decades, German death metal legends Morgoth are now ready to unleash a new video from "Ungod."
Check out the new clip for "Traitor" below, courtesy of Decibel Magazine. Morgoth's Harry Busse (guitar) also comments:
"The first idea that existed for 'Traitor' was the marching riff you find in the verse of the song. After we wrote the bridge and the chorus, the song was almost finished from its instrumental side. I still had no idea in which direction the lyrics should go.
"Only when Sebastian came up with the clean guitar, that introduces and completes the song, did I have the idea for a theme that would perfectly match the sadness and desperation of this interlude, followed by the brutality and mercilessness of the song itself. A child soldier, betrayed by the ones supposed to protect him, betrayed by the "Traitor'." More...

Inner Sanctum Finally Releases New Album
Five years after the "Provenance" EP (reviewed here), India's Inner Sanctum is finally back with a new album titled "Legions Awake." You can check out three tracks off the release below, and the band also comments:
"The new album 'Legions Awake' gave us such a great opportunity to work with some of the best in the business! We managed to get James Murphy (Death, Testament), Christopher Amott (Arch enemy and Armageddon) and Dan Mongrain (Voivod and Martyr) to actually do a solo trade off on 'Existence Denied'. Each of these legends have such unique/trademark styles and these styles translated so beautifully on the track. Another highlight for us was working with Roman Ruminski from Germany. He is responsible for all the orchestral arrangements on the album. His project 'Acherontic Dawn' is nothing short of epic."

Prologue Of A New Generation Premieres Lyric Video
The five-piece Prologue Of A New Generation crosses between metalcore, djent, and death metal for a balance between chaos and reflective melody.

Thrashback Thursday: Bind Torture Kill
New York has a reputation worldwide for being hard as nails and producing tough guys, which is something that has been represented in their music throughout the decades. Hip hop is a well known contribution New York has made to music, but their punk, hardcore and metal legacy is certainly the stuff of legends as well, having produced such bands as The Ramones, Agnostic Front and Anthrax to name but a few. Another band who personified what their home was all about, particular in the vocalist's accent, was Long Island's own, Suffocation, probably one of New York's best known death metal bands along with Cannibal Corpse. Their music was unforgiving in its brutality and punished the ears of audiences throughout the nineties until the band split in 1998.
Luckily for fans of the group and the genre, Suffocation reunited in 2003 and a year later released the excellent album, "Souls to Deny." The record helped put them back on the metal map after five years away and in 2006, they solidified that the comeback was for real by releasing a self-titled album. Like their previous efforts, the album was a display of sonic violence and extremes, earning good reviews in nearly every publication and delighting fans with a re-recording of the old track, "Prelude to Repulsion" from their album, "Breeding the Spawn." It also produced two music videos, one for "Abomination Reborn" and one for today's featured song, "Bind Torture Kill."
The song was inspired by the serial killer, Dennis Rader, also known as the "BTK strangler" after his infamous signature. This horrifying subject is captured perfectly in the song, which has a pummeling intro before getting into the grizzly business. Like the majority of Suffocation's catalogue, it's a relentless bulldozer of a song, encapsulating the claustrophobic fear of a victim of violence and aggression that comes with a mindset hellbent on causing destruction. It was a highlight on a solid album and was popular enough that even the History Channel, who then actually made programmes about history, took notice and featured the song in an advertisement for their series on the dark ages. It's an excellent slab of brutal death metal that put any worries about Suffocation not living up to their own blood soaked legacy to rest. More...
