Pit Stories: A Blitzed Journey To See The Misfits

We've got one hell of a pit story this week metal heads, going from S.O.D.'s Billy Milano crushing a fan's hand to a truly epic trek to see The Misfits that's worthy of a Harold & Kumar style movie.

Hilariously, the vast majority of this pit story takes place nowhere near the pit, as a drunken idiot friend tanks all chances of getting to the show. Vocalist Mike Stack from False Gods tells the tale like this:

I have slowed down a bit in my present age as far as going to shows but back in my more carefree and reckless years it was probably my favorite pastime. I think a big part of the adventure was taking the train into New York city from the island because it gave you ample time to get your drink on.

I remember one Halloween getting so lit on cheap rum that the last thing I remember is walking on the city streets in the middle of a Halloween parade and my friend looked at me and said “I have to go kill a midget” and started sprinting through the people full speed. I didn’t see him again for a few days after that. One time the exact same friend, during S.O.D. was standing next to me in the front of the stage screaming in my face. I had assumed he was so excited by finally getting to see them because they had been on a hiatus but to my disbelief he was screaming because Billy Milano was standing on his hand and he was screaming in pain.

My all time favorite story though is when me, my brother and two of my friends went to go see the Misfits back in 1996. During the Michael Graves years. We had a handle of Bacardi rum with us and the ride to the city was only an hour. The first 20 or so minutes went without a hitch, small talk and some laughs, then for whatever reason my friend (we'll call him "Tim") was like “we have to finish this bottle before we get to Penn station” I am usually under the assumption that putting any type of deadline on yourself is a dangerous game to play. After this statement he proceeded to guzzle almost half the bottle of booze until I had to actually interject and take it away from his mouth.

Sludgehammer Posts "Carrion Eater" Video

Set to unleash debut full-length album "The Fallen Sun" officially on June 10th, Toronto, ON's Sludgehammer today posted a new music video for the track "Carrion Eater." Guitarist Jeff Wilson comments:

"Sludgehammer is proud to present 'Carrion Eater' as our first music video from 'The Fallen Sun.' This is one of the first songs we wrote for the record and it has become one of our favorites. It was an ambitious track to create as we were trying to combine a lot of different musical elements into a cohesive song. We eventually got it to the point where it is now, an energetic, venom spittin', leg stompin', headcrusher! It was a lot of hard work creating this record, but also a lot of fun. We're hoping everyone can enjoy it like we do."

The album was self-produced by the band and mixed by guitarist Tyler Williams and mastered by world renowned producer / engineer Lasse Lammert (Gloryhammer, Alestorm, Teramaze) at LSD Studio in Germany. The track listing is as follows:

1. Demons From The Woodwork (4:02)
2. Intestines Entwined (5:02)

5. Carrion Eater (5:56)
6. Consuming Afterbirth (4:34)
7. Carnivorous Forest (5:08)
8. Utopian (5:45)

Meek Is Murder Posts "Black Lung" Video

Meek Is Murder just revealed a first taste of upcoming fourth album, "Was," with opening track "Black Lung" now streaming in the form of a video shot during the recording of the album at GodCity Studio with producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, Nails).

Recorded and mixed by Ballou and mastered by Alan Douches (The Dillinger Escape Plan, Tombs), "Was" is the most powerful distillation of the Meek Is Murder sound yet recorded.

Frontman Mike Keller describes the concept behind the album: "Typical humans, we think about the past a lot. We romanticize it to reconcile a disappointing present. We re-write history so it reads the way we wish it went. We black it out when it's just too much. And worst of all, we forget. It's a struggle to appreciate the good things or recognize the negative ones at the time they occur." More...

Devin Townsend Project Announces New Album

Devin Townsend Project today announces the release of new studio album "Transcendence" for September 2nd, 2016 worldwide.

Devin comments: “'Transcendence,' like every record I've done prior, is an extension of what’s been going on in my world, represented in a new batch of songs. I'm 44 years old now, and this is where I have been over the past two years since Z2.”

The follow-up to 2014’s "Z2" double-album (half of which was made up of the DTP full-length "Sky Blue"), sees the award-winning Townsend collaborating with the entire DTP band during the writing stages of the record.

“The result of this process is a record that I truly think the intention of is special,” he says of the album. “I 'found' gas to put into the tank and am glad I did. I think the intention, the theme, and the participation of everyone involved allows this album to act like a fulcrum between the past few years and what I intend to do next with the symphony. I am very proud of it and everyone involved.” More...

Storm Of Particles Releasing New EP

Italy’s melodic death metal band Storm Of Particles just announced the release of a first demo/EP coming July 1st as the group is eager to introduce itself to new fans around the world. Storm Of Particles was born in March 2015 when Giacomo Biondelli (guitars), Lorenzo Pavesi (drums) and Matteo Anselmi (guitar and vocals) met for the very first time.

The band lineup was completed in August 2015 when Letizia Tuccia (bass) joined the band.

The self-titled "Storm Of Particles" track listing will be as follows:

1. The Storm Approaches
2. Sun's Rising in the Fog

"'Altruistic Lung' is one of the more raw songs on the album, thematically, and musically the most ambient," vocalist Patrick Anthony told Revolver. "It deals with self-hatred, and the anxieties that those feelings can create when falling in love. We hope that the emotions we meant to convey come across adequately, and we hope that people are able to connect with the song. Fight for the people you love, and hold onto them the best that you can."

Mithridatic Drummer Goes For World Record

Kaotoxin Records just checked in with this statement about Mithridatic's drummer going for a world record on drum speed:

"While on his routine training, Mithridatic drummer Kevin Paradis decided to give the world record for double pedal speed drumming a try… and nailed it! This is of course an unofficial record, as the only witnesses were the camera and his recording DAW, but still incredibly impressive, and, comments Trey Xavier of GearGods.net who premiered the news: ]I have no doubt he could do the same with a drumometer!'

"The record’s rule aren’t about reaching unbelievable tempos, Kevin can definitely play way faster than 260 BPM, but about being able to sustain the effort and, in both configurations (1 minutes long at 260 BPM and 5 minutes long at 240 BPM), Kevin reached a staggering 1037 (current world record is 1034) and 4797 single strokes (current world record is 4595) respectively."

Mithridatic's virulent blackened death metal debut, “Miserable Miracle,“ was released on March 11th and quickly followed by a Europe tour with Nile and Melechesh. More...

Infinite Spectrum Premieres New Lovecraftian Song

Today we're bringing you a dose of dark prog that dips into the maddening waters of the Cthulhu mythos!

Check out advance track "Fear" in the SoundCloud player below, and be sure to let us know what you think of the song.

This hard hitting track premiere from the NYC-based progressive metal band hails from upcoming Sensory Records release "Haunter of the Dark."

The impending summer album is due out June 24th and is based on the short story of the samen ame by master of horror H.P. Lovecraft.

Infinite Spectrum comments on the track: "We found that while 'Fear' worked in context of the Haunter story, it was also accessible as a stand alone track because the emotions it captures are universal. This track occurs about halfway through the new disc and it's all about the abject fear that becomes a prison for our main character Robert Harrison Blake. Lyrically and musically 'Fear' moves the story forward and provides a hook to hang on to, but we think it also expresses the common feelings of anxiety and fear that everyone faces at one time or another in their lives.

"There are a lot of influences that the different members of the band bring to the table, so we think listeners will find a plenty of variety on the disc. Whether your a fan of heavier progressive metal, like Dream Theater/Symphony X or more of a classic prog fan of bands like Pink Floyd, you'll find something to like. Of course, if you're also a fan of Lovecraft it's a perfect match." More...
