Fabio Lione Splits With Rhapsody Of Fire

Longtime and legendary vocalist Fabio Lione (Angra/Vision Divine) announced his departure from Rhapsody of Fire. Lione joined the band in 1995 just after the "Eternal Glory" demo and before the release of the debut album "Legendary Tales." He leaves behind a legacy of 11 full length studio albums with the band.

In a post on Facebook, Lione stated:

"Dear all, fans, promoters, colleagues. I anticipated this to all band members in the last 3/4 months and now I sadly announce my final decision to part ways with ROF. Ain't no words to describe what this band represents to me, and I'm proud to have been part of such a big chapter of the power metal bible.

"It's time for me to write a new chapter of my life, as a musician and as a man. I wish ROF all the best, may their magic go ahead stronger than ever. Thank you Alex and Holzy, for this 20 years. Thanks You Roberto, for your friendship and Alessandro for your sincere attitude and honesty."

One of those new chapters was recently announced - in the form of Eternal Idol, which releases the debut album "The Unrevealed Secret" on December 2nd via Frontiers Records.

Vocalist Zachary Kerr offers of the new track: "'5306 Morningside' envelops many forms of significance in 'Peripeteia:' it was the address of my childhood home, the foundation of what I believed a family was to be surmised of, and a place of both great sadness and soaring joy. A home to childhood luster and youthful perspective, innocence that would eventually be set to trial, as I try to pick apart the pieces of my own destruction. In its ashes, as memories fade, I now sort the accountability for the path I've traveled, and unveil those that misled me along the way. More...

The Finnish funeral doom pioneers from Shape Of Despair are bringing back previously unreleased first demo "Alone in the Mist," which was originally written and recorded in 1988 while the band was still known as Raven.

Regarding the demo, Shape Of Despair founder Jarno Salomaa comments, "So what exactly do you find on 'Alone in the Mist'? Besides the first songs ever written for Shape Of Despair – at that time still named Rarven – these represent my first ever attempt at doom as well. Those tracks are the outcome of solitary inspiration through dark woods and good music. This demo was never fully released – do not bother to ask why, because I cannot remember the reasons at all. 'Alone in the Mist' was only tape traded without any cover or anything else with just a few people that we knew or were in contact with."

Manilla Road Parts With Bassist

Bassist Joshua Castillo from Manilla Road just issued this announcement online about parting ways with the band:

"It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing today that I will no longer be the bass player for Manilla Road. Most of you on here know me as the world traveling rocker, but what you might not know is that I'm also a husband, a father of four and self employed in my hometown. It was brought up, by myself, a while back that it is extremely difficult for me too carry on this lifestyle, while also touring as much as we have.

"I'm still not quite sure whether or not I'm really ready to hang it up, but after several discussions with Mark it seems that right now would be the most convenient time to step down and allow them to have time to work in a new bass player. I want everyone to know that this doesn't mean that I'm retiring. Guys like us can't live without having music in our lives. It's in our blood, and it's the air we breathe.

"I'll continue to play in my other band that I play guitar for called CUCUI. I really really wish the guys the best, and hopefully they will continue to grow in their success. I'm going to really miss sharing the stage and traveling with them, and of course I'm going to miss all the friends and fans that I've met along the way and that have touched my heart. I'll Never Say Goodbye. I hope that I will still see you down the road of life."

Root Announces New Album Details

One of the original pre-second-wave black metal bands (formed in 1987 by iconic vocalist Jiri 'Big Boss' Valter), Root, from Czech Republic, is going to release a new studio album "Kärgeräs - Return From Oblivion" on November 25th via Agonia Records. Pre-orders are currently available at this location.

In contrast to Bathory and Venom, Root took the black metal genre in a more refined direction, featuring Big Boss' chartacteristic clean vocals, dark sound and an epic approach altogether. Nowadays, Root is often recognized as an epic heavy/black metal act, or as the band simply puts it - a dark metal band.

The new album, "Kärgeräs - Return From Oblivion," will be different from their 2011's offering, "Heritage Of Satan," says the band:

"As always in our history as a band, we aim to deliver a unique album, something that will stand out and shine its own light in our discography. Expect dark metal at its best, along with some surprising elements. We've recorded one fully acoustic song and one entirely instrumental. Overall, the album will include ten new tracks that will differ from our previous records".

"Kärgeräs - Return From Oblivion" will be Root's tenth full-length album. Lyrically, it will be a concept album, and looked at from that perspective, it'll continue the story begun by their 1996 release under a similar yet shorter title, "Kärgeräs", that presents a tale of a pround nation. More...

Rogue Male Returns, Signs New Management Deal

Rogue Male has just announced a new contract with management company Agentur EAM. The U.K. band is making a return in a big way...

Rogue Male was the brain child of Belfast-boy Jim Lyttle. The first incarnation of the band came into being in late 1983 when Jim decided to put together a band that would mix punk aggression with a rock/metal style, it was ground breaking and original making the band one of the first crossover punk/metal bands that later became part of the NWOBHM. After a series of line-ups, a stable touring band was produced; Jim Lyttle (guitar/vocals), John Fraser-Binnie (guitar), Kevin Collier (bass) and Steve Kingsley (drums) who was later replaced by Danny Fury. This lineup's live performances gained the attention of several record companies.

By the time the band issued the debut album "First Visit" on the Music For Nations label (Elektra in the U.S.) in 1985, Kevin Collier had been recruited as a replacement for Clark on bass. It is this lineup that shook the rock world with its combination of futuristic imagery and blisteringly raw metal with a punk twist. Cover shoots for international magazines soon followed as well as a slot on the "ECT" (Extra Celestial Transmission) television show on Channel 4 in 1985.

Steve Kingsley was replaced shortly after the end of this strenuous road work and was replaced by Danny Fury on drums. However, this was only after a second album "Animal Man" was recorded in 1986 with session king Charlie Morgan holding the sticks.

Rogue Male began to be described as ‘thinking man’s metal’ and the ‘most dangerous band since the Sex Pistols.’ They were attributed in the UK rock and metal press as ‘the next big thing’ and were ‘Album of the Month” worldwide in top rock/metal journals. More...

Comments mastermind Justin Greaves: "Some songs depart from my mind into reality without consent. ‘Winning A Losing Battle’ is one of those. The track just barged itself into the world. It is also one of the musically unconventional Crippled Black Phoenix style of songs that keep appearing on our albums. The title says it all. We have been through a lot of adversity as a band in these past two years and even though it seemed that all is doomed at times – I/we never gave up or gave in. We just say ‘screw you’ to the people and forces that tried to bring us down. Crippled Black Phoenix win, and always will." More...
