Pit Stories: An Eventful First Show
Other than New Release Friday, each Tuesday is always my favorite day of the week - because it means more heavy metal Pit Stories to share!
This week we've got a tale of a show absolutely filled to the brim with shenanigans, and it just happens to have been the band's debut live performance. Guitarist Adrian Barnes from New Brunswick progressive metal band Tactus tells the story like this:
We have a bunch of funny things that actually occurred at our very first live show ever in 2013. We were playing at Pub Down Under in Saint John (which we’ve played a few times now, great little spot!). As most pubs have, there were a few weekend regulars who just happened to be at the pub during the metal show, some of whom clearly didn’t understand what to expect in the pit. In the middle of one of our songs, a few people were moshing and pushing each other a bit, and one of them bumped into this dude at the bar - he was loaded, and did not understand what was happening nor did he take it well.
He threw up his fists like he was in a boxing match and then chased the kid who bumped into him around the mosh pit for several seconds trying to hit him. Everyone was laughing, but the dude had a burning rage in his eyes that was actually pretty frightening. We were a bit worried for a second, but the door guy managed to grab a hold of him and took him outside to explain what was happening. It was pretty funny to see someone have to be taken aside after being struck in a mosh pit and get a crash course in metal culture.
Another amusing thing at that show was that at the time, the venue didn’t actually have a stage, so we were playing on the floor. The ladies washroom was just to the left of us, and our guitarist Alec had to keep stepping aside mid-song to let people by him to go use the washroom. It was simultaneously irritating and hilarious, because he just looked so awkward trying to play his parts while moving about precariously to let people past him.
Finally, another one of the locals who just happened to be at the bar, and who was clearly extremely intoxicated, came up to each of us after the show while we were loading out and had us all sign a napkin. It’s always humbling when someone wants your autograph, but it was also very hard to not laugh about it because it was only our first show and he was completely zonked . . . plus it was a napkin!

Netherbird Premieres "Pillars Of The Sky"
Fresh of the heels of releasing the "Windwards" single (still available for streaming here), Swedish outfit Netherbird will soon unleash a second single titled "Pillars Of The Sky."
Both singles are taken off upcoming album "The Grander Voyage," due to drop October 28th via Black Lodge Records.
Today we're stoked to premiere the half acoustic / half extreme "Pillars Of The Sky" online via a lyric video - check it out below! The official release of "Pillars Of The Sky" will also be accompanied by bonus track "Brazen Splendour" when it drops September 30th.
Netherbird comments that the new song available below "is a very special tune for us in the band, as half of it is an acoustic piece and that later opens up into a more epic crescendo. It came very naturally when we wrote it and in my opinion it captures the essence of Netherbird, the contrasts between the frail and the furious. It also shows where we are heading musically, we continue to grow but we still stand firmly rooted in the old underground metal legacy."
The band goes on to say, "As for 'Pillars of the Sky' the lyrics is of course open to interpretation, I could not write it any other way, but to me personally it is a homage to those brave enough to purse their vision and to sacrifice everything for it, no matter the consequences. And I truly hope everyone one day will be able to find and climb their own 'Pillars of the Sky.'" More...

Eternal Idol Details "The Unrevealed Secret"
Frontiers Music srl is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Eternal Idol debut album, entitled "The Unrevealed Secret" on December 2nd.
Eternal Idol is a new band formed in early 2016 and that marks the start of a new musical adventure for Rhapsody Of Fire/Angra singer Fabio Lione (Official), together with the experienced Italian guitar player Nick Savio (ex-Hollow Haze) and a line-up completed by the young vocal rising star Giorgia Colleluori, Camillo Colleluori (both also from Hollow Haze) on drums and Andrea Buratto (Secret Sphere, Hell in the Club) on bass.
While all the musicians have solid pedigrees and musical history behind them, Eternal Idol has a brand new and original sound which will certainly catch many fans by surprise. Fabio Lione says, “[a]fter all the experiences with bands such as KAMELOT, Rhapsody of Fire, Angra and many more, I think it is time to show the world a new side of myself with this amazing new band. Musically, Eternal Idol offers an intriguing mix of classic metal, symphonic rock and a few progressive twists which is truly unique, thanks to the combination of female and male vocals.”
Fabio took care of most of the lyrics and vocal melodies, along with three gorgeous tracks he wrote, while Nick Savio worked hard on songwriting and arrangements. "'The Unrevealed Secret' is the album where all our ideas came to the light,” says the axeman from Vicenza. “Heavy classic rock with symphonic elements and the magic atmosphere of two lead vocals, male and female, create a contrast between good and bad as the main subject, as it is possible to see on the impressive and mysterious cover artwork.”
The album was recorded in the summer of 2016, produced by Nick Savio and mixed by Simone Mularoni (DGM, Sunstorm) and promises to be one of the melodic metal releases of the year. Fans of Kamelot, Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall, MasterPlan, and Avantasia should pay attention.
“There is a story to be told with this album, and the secret will be revealed on the next Eternal Idol releases, so please take your time to listen this first chapter and enjoy....A new story has begun,” Nick concludes.
“The Unrevealed Secret” track listing is:
1. Evil Tears
2. Another Night Comes
3. Awake in Orion
4. Is the Answer Far from God?

Advent Of Bedlam Releases New Lyric Video
After releasing new single "Creatures of Yore" and joining Destroyer 666 on a face-melting Mexican tour, Advent Of Bedlam now officially premieres a lyric video for the track.
"Creatures of Yore" will not only give you the metal fix you've been looking for but also showcases some mysterious ancient art that's portrayed through the band's lyrics and music. Advent Of Bedlam also comments on recent live shows:
"As a Latin American band and because of the buzz surrounding D666 before the tour, we were really intrigued about how this experience would be. After sharing stage, hotels, van, meals and beers with them, all we can do is confirm what Mike Hamilton (Deeds of Flesh) said to us in Slovakia where we were having some backline problems when sharing stage with Exhumed, Rotten Sound and Magrudergrind: 'This is the Underground and in the Underground bands supports bands.' Both experiences were milestones for us and have allowed Advent of Bedlam to grow tremendously as a band." More...

Demonic Resurrection Crowd Funding New Album
India's metal veterans from Demonic Resurrection have announced the release of their fifth full-length studio album and launched a Pledge Music campaign here in support of the release. A tentative February, 2017 release date is expected, with the band commenting:
"More than money being a motivation, for us the pledge campaign was launched to share this experience with our fans before anyone else. I believe the fan-artist relationship is closer than ever and platforms like pledge music bypass the social media giants like Facebook and Twitter and let you interact with fans 1 on 1.
"So for us this campaign is about sharing the album name, tracklist, artwork, songs etc with the fans before anyone else. So we're really excited to embark on this journey. At this point we don't have any release details for how the album is released after the campaign but we are in talks with some labels, so fingers crossed." More...

Seele Issues "Rakkaudesta Sokea" Video Clip
Finland's Seele released a new music video for the song "Rakkaudesta Sokea," which is taken from the latest release "Jos Vain Kaiken Jättäisin."
Actor Tommi Eronen known for starring in the movies Jade Warrior (2006) and Bad Luck Love (2000) makes an appearance (co-stairng Hanna-Leena Henriksson).
The video was filmed in Janakkala, Finland and tells a story of a couple lost in the wilderness. Running low on water, it becomes clear that only one of them will survive.
Lead singer and lyricist Julia Mattila commented: "The music video tells a story about the things you are willing to do and sacrifice for the ones you love. The song is one of the emotionally strongest on our debut album, thus ending up as our first choice for the video."
Between upcoming roles and a very busy work-schedule, Eronen was able to find a suitable day to complete the role before autumn. "We are extremely grateful that he was able to take part in our video, despite having a lot of projects going on", says the bands lead guitarist and songwriter Riku Mäkinen.
He continues: "Originally our goal was to complete the shoot in July, but due to unforseen circumstances we were able to complete it in late August. We would like to thank Eronen for having the patience for making this video happen with us".
