1000 Drops Of Venom Releases 1st Song

From Syracuse, New York, arises a vicious new act founded by members of some of the area's most prolific acts, welcome 1000 Drops Of Venom!

From the torch bearers that put the sound of one of the worlds prime metallic hardcore origins on the map, 1000 Drops Of Venom was forged by a cast of musicians who have helped create the Syracuse sound, with vocalist Karl Buechner (Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance, Freya), guitarist Jonathan Dennison (The Promise, Unholy, The Path Of Resistance), drummer Andy Miller (Unholy), and bassist Chris Reilly comprising the brutal backline.

The debut recordings have just been completed, and are now being finalized for a 7" EP release, which features four by-the-throat tracks recorded, mixed, and mastered by Doug White at Watchman Studios in Buffalo, New York (Gym Class Heroes, Brutal Truth, Psyopus).

The release will be issued in the coming months, on a label to be announced at a later time. For now, the band has leaked one track from the record as an early warning of what's to come. Issues Jonathan Dennison of this new venture:

"Well, talks of starting a new band together with Karl has finally materialized. I think fans of our past and present bands will like what we're doing. Musically this band represents how we feel and some things never change."

Karl Buechner continues, "JD and I became friends back when Another Victim toured with Earth Crisis in the nineties. Since then we have played music together in Earth Crisis, The Path Of Resistance, and Freya at different points. It was only a matter of time before we put a band together on our own. Our beliefs and our take on metal and hardcore are identical. There is genuine hatred in this music but it's not back to square one. I think it's the best elements of what were known for." More...

Painted In Exile Reveals "The Ordeal"

Painted In Exile is officially back with brand new full-length album, "The Ordeal," set for release on October 28th, 2016. Pre-orders are available for "The Ordeal" now at this location.

Previous band followers and hungry, unsuspecting prog fans won't have to wait long to hear new music - check out a music video for the track "House of Cards" below, directed by Tom Flynn.

"The Ordeal" was produced, recorded, mixed and mastered by Jamie King, who is recognized for his work with bands such as Between the Buried And Me, The Contortionist, Scale The Summit and other modern progressive metal mainstays.

The album was recorded at both Basement Recording Studios in Winston-Salem, NC and The Fidelitorium in Kernersville, NC. Orchestral arrangements on the album were written by Alan Hankers. Additional production and engineering support was provided by Painted In Exile guitarist Ivan Chopik.

Producer Jamie King states, "This record is a truly great prog rock/metal record. And I'm not just saying that because I was hired to record it. I'm honored to have been a part of it. It will be revered as a classic!"

Guitarist Ivan Chopik adds, "The ingredients for 'The Ordeal' had been brewing for several years, so we went into the recording process with a specific vision of what we wanted the record to sound like. When the opportunity came up to have Jamie King produce and engineer, it was a resounding 'Yes'. He'd already worked on some of our favorite albums, so we knew the sonics would be on point. Beyond that, he gave us the environment to stay creative in the studio and pushed us to get our best, real performances. His vision and experience was integral to shaping 'The Ordeal.'" More...

Following a major lineup schism back in May, folk metal group Eluveitie is now working on a new album.

Dark Fortress Releasing Albums On Vinyl

Century Media Records has teamed up with guitarist and producer V Santura as well as vocalist Morean to create a series of Dark Fortress vinyl editions to be continued in 2017 and going all the way back to debut "Tales from Eternal Dusk" (2001). First up are the first-ever vinyl editions of "Eidolon" (2008) and "Ylem" (2010), which will be released on October 14th, 2016.

V Santura comments: "We are very pleased to finally release our albums 'Eidolon' and 'Ylem' on vinyl! It has been more than 8 years since the release of 'Eidolon'... I still love the album, and also in retrospective there is not much I would like to change about it. However, over the years I felt that the low end frequency range of the album mix sounded a hair too thin to me, something was missing...

"Now, having the chance to revisit the album for a new release, I took the chance and adjusted that little issue for the vinyl. I did not want to lose the coldness of the album, as this is an essential aspect of the music, by adding more warmth, but it simply needed more balls!

"Also for 'Ylem' I made a dedicated vinyl master. As opposed to 'Eidolon,' I had the wish that the low end would have been slightly more tight in the first place. I think the album sounds quite good on most audio playback systems anyway, but on certain, particularly bassy speakers I had the feeling that especially the bass drum was a bit too boomy down below, kind of blowing the speakers. I also think that this should be fixed now with the vinyl edition. So, all in all, these vinyl releases are not simply the CD versions on LPs, but underwent a subtle, but pleasing sound update. Also worth mentioning: This time the lyrics on 'Ylem' are actually legible ;-)" More...

Slayer Discusses "Repentless" Video Trilogy

When the members of Slayer were approached by Nuclear Blast America's General Manager Gerardo Martinez to make a music video for "Repentless," the title track of the band's 2015 label debut, they thought it was going to be a cool, one-off music video. Little did they know.

Martinez put the band together with up-and-coming director BJ McDonnell who turned in a storyline that the band really liked. McDonnell made his living as a motion picture and television camera/ steadicam operator, having worked on features such as "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "The Interview," and "Jack Reacher," and had one directing project under his belt, 2013's "Hatchet III."

"Meeting him, he was excited," remembers Slayer's Tom Araya. "He really liked the fact he was working with the band, he was a fan, and his excitement rubbed off because it made me excited. I thought, 'well this is gonna be fucking great!'"

"Repentless" was shot on August 25 & 26, 2016 at the Sybil Brand Institute, a women's prison in East Los Angeles. Said Kerry King, "When I saw 'Repentless,' I said 'that's the video we should have done 20 years ago. It's Slayer. That video is Slayer.'"

To date, the "Repentless" video has accumulated more than 10-million YouTube views. In the late Fall of 2015, Martinez discussed with McDonnell the idea of doing a prequel and sequel for "Repentless." McDonnell loved the idea and wrote the treatments. More...

Spiritus Mortis Returns With "The Year Is One"

Finland's most ancient purveyors of doom metal, Spiritus Mortis are back with a vengeance! Seven years have passed since their previous offering, "The God Behind The God," also their first featuring ex-Reverend Bizarre vocalist Albert Witchfinder. Now on their fourth album, "The Year Is One" is a mirror to your childhood's occult fantasies. It is what you thought you heard when listening to your favorite headbanging music - even though those bands actually sang about sex and drugs and driving fast cars, whereas Spiritus Mortis' material really does deal with black magic and necrophilia. It is as heavy and evil as one can get without slipping away from the world of pure old-school heavy metal.

Prepared with the kind of passion and time-consuming concentration that is fitting of the doom metal genre, "The Year Is One" was several years in the making, and the dedication is palpably present in the music. The band's roots in Dio-era Sabbath sounds are there, but the men play with a heavy-handed yet melodic vigor rather unusual in the genre. Albert Witchfinder's voice carries a newfound joy of expression, and he delivers his bedtime stories about demon summoning and corpse violation as if possessed by evil genius.

Svart Records will release this work of supreme darkness on November 11th on CD, digital, and double vinyl. At this point, the only confirmed live appearance will be in November in Helsinki, supporting Satan and Pentagram. The first track premiere shall be announced shortly. Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

1. Robe of Ectoplasm
2. I am a Name on Your Funeral Wreath
3. Babalon Working
4. Jesus Christ, Son of Satan
5. Holiday in the Cemetery
6. She Died a Virgin
