Enslaved Releasing "The Sleeping Gods - Thorn"
Following last year's "In Times" album (reviewed here), Enslaved's next release is “The Sleeping Gods - Thorn," which drops November 11th via Norse Music and collects experimental material from 2010 - 2011 together in one package.
Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media (Roadburn Festival, Opeth, Darkthrone, At The Gates, etc.) once again did the beautiful new layout. The songs originally appeared on extremely limited EPs between the full-length albums “Axioma Ethica Odini” and “Riitiir,” and were recorded both in Solslottet Studio in Bergen, as well as the band member’s own studios and partly in the deep woods of Valevaag on the south-west coast of Norway.
The album has lyrics sung in both Norwegian, English and Old Norse, and the theme centres on mythology and the esoteric side of the runes; as well as contrasting the Norse ways as a polytheistic belief system to the monotheistic plague of the big world religions.
If you missed it the first time around, the original "Sleeping Gods" EP can still also be streamed after the jump. More...
Alissa White-Gluz Signs With Napalm
Alissa White-Gluz's new solo project just inked a deal with Napalm Records to release an upcoming album. The label comments:
"The global metal scene recognizes Alissa White-Gluz for her unforgettable and inimitable work as the vocalist of iconic metal band Arch Enemy. At this point in her career, the versatile singer has worked steadily in heavy bands for half her life.
"The impactful front woman has cultivated her style and her sound through years of writing, recording, touring, and old fashioned, iron-clad work ethic. Alissa is armed with equal skill and experience, as well as abundant artistic confidence, and is backed by the fact that music lovers all over the world are eager to hear more of her astonishing range. That's why White-Gluz is doing something new.
"It's an entity dubbed simply 'Alissa' and her brand new solo project has now been worldwide signed by Napalm Records.
"First things first — White-Gluz remains firmly installed in her role as the front woman of Arch Enemy. That status has not and will not change. Alissa is more of a musical collective, led by White-Gluz and featuring contributions from her wide network of also-talented friends, like an own creative commune with little in the way of rules, regulations, or limits."
