Winterfylleth Announces New Album
U.K. black metal outfit Winterfylleth returns with new release "The Dark Hereafter," due out on September 30th via Candlelight/Spinefarm Records.
"The Dark Hereafter" comes two years after the release of seminal album "The Divination of Antiquity" (2014).
Thematically, "The Dark Hereafter" casts a light on how we are now seeing the negative, long-term effects of bad policy making and global oligarchy playing out in society. It also look at how we have learnt all of these lessons before and yet ignore the wisdom of the ages.
The band once again used the production talents of Chris Fielding at Skyhammer Studio and Tim Turan at Turan Audio to make the record a reality.
"After two years away, we are really pleased to share this new record with you all," said guitarist Chris Naughton. "We thought a lot about making it, what it has to say lyrically, what that means, and how we progress along with that as a band approaching our 10th year of existence.
"In recent years, it feels like we've been living in an uncertain and unsettling world, and on 'The Dark Hereafter,' we wanted to bring the issues surrounding that uncertainty to life within these new songs. They carry a lot of meaning and sentiment for us, and we hope they will also have that meaning for you. We look forward to seeing you all along the way in 2016 and 2017." More...
Miss Lava Releases "Another Beast Is Born" Video
Following the Small Stone Records release of the "Sonic Debris" LP in May, Portugal's Miss Lava just issued a new video for album track "Another Beast Is Born."
This new clip is an adaptation of 1971 French film "Don't Deliver Us From Evil" (Mais Ne Nous Délivrez Pas Du Mal) by Joël Séria. Offers vocalist Johnny Lee of the song:
"In times like these is unbelievable how often we see people losing their lives by the hands of cold-hearted creatures who have no regard for human life. 'Another Beast Is Born' is our trip to hell to meet those creatures. It's a song with a touch of doom and black metal, a dark place we haven't explored before in Miss Lava, a song with a big riff that still blows my mind, and is one of my favorites in the album."
Miss Lava also begins a steady burst of Portuguese tour dates this week in support of the album, with shows booked throughout the band's home country from now through November, with many additional live shows to be continually announced in the weeks ahead.

Victory Records Comments On Lawsuit
Victory Records has issued a response to a recent article in Kerrang! Magazine referencing the litigation filed by A Day To Remember. The label comments:
"Victory Records is compelled to provide the following information to the public, specifically in response to untrue statements made by band leader Jeremy McKinnon. Victory did not file this lawsuit, A Day To Remember did so in order to avoid their remaining recording commitments to Victory. In fact, Victory was blindsided by the lawsuit that the band began to surreptitiously prepare as early as 2010.
"The core issue in the lawsuit is how many 'albums' A Day To Remember delivered under its agreement with Victory Records. Not once before filing the lawsuit did ADTR claim to Victory or to the public that they had satisfied their 5-album recording commitment. They never asserted that Victory’s efforts concerning the marketing, promotion and distribution of the albums was anything less than stellar. During the years ADTR considered itself a Victory artist, they never complained about royalties.
"Including the recent article in Kerrang!, virtually every press outlet that has covered ADTR’s album releases since 2006 have reported the number of full-length studio albums ADTR released in total - this includes the three albums released by Victory (2007’s 'For Those Who Have Heart,' 2009’s 'Homesick,' 2010’s 'What Separates Me From You'), 'Old Record' (a 2008 re-release of a previous ADTR album on Indianola Records as part of a separate agreement), 2013’s 'Common Courtesy' (the 'fifth' album), and now 'Bad Vibrations' (the 'sixth' Album). ADTR’s inherently absurd claim that they delivered 13 'albums' in the first two years of their agreement with Victory defies common sense, logic and reality. More...

Heaven Below, the current project of Union Underground/Lita Ford guitarist Patrick Kennison, has signed with EMP Label Group, which will release the band’s upcoming LP "Good Morning Apocalypse" on October 14th, 2016.
"Good Morning Apocalypse" features guest appearances from Lita Ford, Jason McMaster (Dangerous Toys, Broken Teeth), Udo Dirkschneider (Accept), and Kobra Paige of Kobra and the Lotus. Check out an album sampler below.
Says Kennison, “Nearly 4 years ago the band and I decided that we’d like to start working on a concept record. We knew how ambitious it sounded to even consider that, but once several legendary artists offered to help make it become a reality, we knew we had something.”
He continues, “With over 30 songs written, we narrowed it down to the top 12. Udo Dirkschneider, Lita Ford, Jason McMaster, and Kobra Paige all stepped up to lend their amazing talents. We feel this album is a powerful culmination of old school metal meets current fresh metal. This kind of undertaking only comes along once in a lifetime, and we think we captured the moment on 'Good Morning Apocalypse.\ The timing was perfect with EMP’s outside of the box approach to new music.” More...

The Wounded Kings Calling It Quits
U.K. doom outfit The Wounded Kings is due to release fifth full-length album "Visions In Bone" on August 26th via Candlelight / Spinefarm Records.
Sadly, this will be the group's final output. The Wounded Kings just issued this statement online about officially calling it quits:
"By now you will have seen the earlier posts and in response to one comment sorry buddy.... no this is not a publicity stunt!
"12 years is a pretty good innings for a band these days and there has been well documented instances when the journey could well have ended years ago. Sadly that day has finally arrived. We’ve had a wild ride with some truly amazing shows and met many awesome people along the way. Many of you have become great friends. For that we are truly grateful!
"I’m sure many of you are thinking this is all rather sudden but to be honest it’s probably been 6 months in the making. We’ve tried to cling onto the sinking ship for as long as possible...too long if truth be told!. Little did we know that when we recorded ‘Visions in Bone’ a year ago (yes that fuckin’ long!!) it would end up being our Swan Song!
"A massive thank you to everyone who has supported us, came to the shows, bought our merch, shared beers, gave us a place to sleep, made us food, did our posters...the list is endless. Most of all thank you to those who believed in us...without you none of this would ever have been possible." More...

Ayahuasca Streaming "Dinosaurs"
Toronto's sludge-tinged grunge trio Ayahuasca will release a sophomore full-length album next month. Titled "Yin," the absorbing, twelve-track offering serves as the follow-up to 2013 release "Plato's Dark Horse."
Ayahuasca is the result of a musical experiment conceived by guitarist and engineer Luke Roberts (aka Berserk Lout). Upon completion of what become "Plato's Dark Horse" in 2013, Roberts sought out musicians who not only had the skill to handle music with complex melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic sensibilities but who could also execute it with an appreciation for the raw aggression of the '90s bands he grew up on.
Ayahuasca features within its ranks members of The Great Collapse, The Womb, Godstopper, Vilipend, Idioteque, The Histronics, and Irn. "Yin" was captured by Roberts (except drums which were recorded by Greg Dawson) and mixed and mastered by Greg Dawson at BWC Studios.
Elaborates Roberts" "Our last record was much more progressive, long winded, and full of details. This is a much more fast-paced, vomitus, cathartic release of anger that is kind of childish at times if I may speak frankly. Making this record satisfies the need to express a muse that's been bothering me since I was a teenager in the vein of the constantly dissatisfied stress and anger laden punk/grunge bands I grew up listening to." The Agonist Releases New Music Video
The Agonist today releases a brand new video for "The Moment," which can be seen below. Vocalist Vicky Psarakis comments:
"'The Moment' was probably the most exciting and demanding video I had to shoot so far. Chris (bassist / FTB Visuals director) came up to me with the idea to create a 'storyline' with a close up of just my face singing the lyrics underwater. And we achieved it by building a box with a plexiglass panel that fit my head, while the rest of my body was standing and perfectly dry.
"I guess you could say it was scary and awkward to have just your head submerged underwater and a bit dangerous to have to perform the entire song in that position, but honestly, I wouldn't mind doing the whole thing all over again!"
The Agonist is set to release upcoming new album and Napalm Records debut "Five" on September 30th, 2016.

Imminent Sonic Destruction Brings On "The Fog"
U.S. progressive metal act Imminent Sonic Destruction teamed up with Metal Underground.com to premiere the music video for the new song "The Fog." The song is taken from the brand new album "Triumphia," which is is set to drop on September 2nd, 2016 via Luxor Records.
Detroit based Imminent Sonic Destruction was formed in 2008 during an unexpected lunar eclipse, which wiped out vast swaths of humanity and ushered in the so-called new age of progressive super metal. Maybe you remember. It was a Tuesday.
Even though some of that is made up, the band was initially formed around the strong songwriting of guitarist/vocalist Tony Piccoli, and consists of Pat DeLeon (drums), Pete Hopersberger (keyboards/vocals), Bryan Paxton (bass) and Scott Thompson (guitar/vocals). Imminent Sonic Destruction’s sound is a satisfying blend of styles, at times melodic, complex, epic and crushingly heavy, drawing on the members’ various influences, which cover the full spectrum of prog, rock, and metal.
Imminent Sonic Destruction recorded and released the debut full-length CD, "Recurring Themes," in 2012 to critical acclaim. Based on the strength of that album and an energetic live show, the band went on to tour across North America with giants Pain of Salvation and Fates Warning, among others.
In between tours, the band spent time excitedly writing and demoing a diverse collection of songs. These demos led to label interest and the subsequent signing a record deal, which brings Imminent Sonic Destruction to 2016, and the announcement of "Triumphia," an ambitious concept album featuring over 60 minutes of music, including the 22+ minute epic “Arborous Calm.” Triumphia features artwork by acclaimed artist Travis Smith.
The track listing for "Triumphia" is:
1. The Crashing Waves
2. Something in the Way
3. The Fog
4. Sleepless
5. Lake of Fire
6. The Knife
7. Arborous Calm
As for the video clip for "The Fog" keyboardist Pete Hopersberger told Metal Underground.com: "Shooting this was an absolute blast. There are so many little things to look for, easter eggs and things that will crack people up. It's really a short film, and I'm thrilled with how it came out. Several of our friends put a lot of hard work into the details of this video, and it shows."
With that said, Metal Underground.com is pleased to present "The Fog": More...

A Day At Leyendas Del Rock
Europe is renowned in the metal world for it's many metal and rock festivals, with particular focus being shed on Germany. However, many other countries are now getting in on the action, with Belgium and the Czech Republic becoming more well known for the Graspop Metal Meeting and Brutal Assault festivals respectively. Spain is also making strides in the field, with such events as Resurrection Fest and the growing reputation of another festival in the south eastern area of the country, Villena to be exact, named Leyendas del Rock.
Having only been able to attend for the Thursday, we arrived on the first full day just in time to catch the final few songs of veteran Danish rockers, D-A-D. Though being unfamiliar with the group, they displayed a frantic energy and a passion to win over as many newcomers as they could, putting in a shift that put plenty of younger bands to shame. Despite catching only a glimpse, I will certainly be checking out more of their catalogue in the near future.
Up next on the second main stage, a system which is becoming used by more festivals across the continent, was British based power metal act, Dragonforce. I'm sure most readers are familiar and plenty will remember trying not to break their fingers playing, "Through the Fire and the Flames" on guitar hero, so there's not much need for an introduction. Although they've been the subject of ridicule and criticism, the band actually carry themselves very well. Stand in frontman Alessio Garavello is great at interacting with the crowd and all members perform with focus and skill. They might not be everyone's cup of tea, but Dragonforce did themselves proud on this day. More...
Profanal Announces Sophomore Album "Supreme Fire"
Today, Iron Tyrant Records set October 15th as the international release date for Italian death metal act Profanal's highly anticipated second album, "Supreme Fire."
In 2012, Profanal unleashed "Black Chaos" upon an unsuspecting populace, introducing Profanal with a disgusting, gut-wrenching exclamation point. In an era where the classic 'Swedeath' sound has been as abused as the signature HM-2 pedal from which that genre largely sprung, this Italian quintet offered something vastly more than mere regurgitation. Across every note rang a deeply studied - and, more importantly, deeply felt - authenticity that, no matter how familiar the template may be, suggested there were further treasures to be mined.
And now, with the second album after a seemingly interminable four-year wait, Profanal are back to prove that the treasure chest is vast with death metal riches to behold. Ever aptly titled, "Supreme Fire" is an incendiary, sulfurous furnace of classic Swedish style death metal done by maniacs who live (and die) by this sword, who've imbibed its essence so thoroughly and profoundly, the record could've come out in the idiom's early '90s heyday. Indeed, Profanal burl forth with a blistering, steamrollering tank-tread of gutted sound, occasionally blasting where necessary - and only when it's in service of the song - and otherwise exploring the tasteful boundaries of classicist death metal songwriting, making for an immediately memorable but never overly simple-nor-complicated listen. Plus, there's no denying the soul-devouring power of vocalist Rosy, whose death bellows are unique for her gender in this genre. It's maniacal death metal by death metal maniacs, for death metal maniacs...it's Supreme

Michael Sweet Releases New Song "Golden Age"
In what promises to be Stryper front-man Michael Sweet’s most intense solo release to date, “One Sided War” showcases a full plate of hard rock & classic metal riffs from start to finish. One Sided War marks Michael’s 7th studio solo album and it clearly proves that he is still at the very top of his game! “I’ll tell you about it”, says Michael, “Musically it’s my heaviest solo album. It’s not thrash metal but there are definitely some songs on there that will pop out at you. There are some songs that have a bit of the Iron Maiden / Dio feel to them, as well as some songs that have a little bit of a Van Halen influence to them. It’s a very guitar-oriented, hard rock/metal album with lots of melodies and hooks!”
Check out the lyric video for the new song "Golden Age" for yourself below. The album will be issued on August 26th via Rat Pak Records. Pre-order your copy over at this location.
Surrounding himself in the studio with Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, bassist John O’Boyle and East Coast shred-master Ethan Brosh, Michael began creating what would soon be known as “One Sided War”. Michael states “Originally I planned on showcasing my own guitar playing; I was going to do it all myself, but once I brought Joel & Ethan into the picture, things began to take a new direction and I am very happy with what we have accomplished”. Says Ethan Brosh about working with Michael, "He's one of those guys who have always been at the top of their game and has just never lost it and for me to be a part of this is very special". Joel Hoekstra comments "Michael and I actually go back to my time in Night Ranger when we opened for him when he was playing with Boston. Ever since then we've just been kind of collaborating and this is sort of a natural evolution getting to play on a few songs on his solo album". More...
