Pit Stories: Two For The Price Of One
Gather 'round metal heads, it's Pit Story time!
This week we've got two for the price of one, as Francisco Ramirez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based group Volunteer shares two epic tales of live mayhem in Chicago.
The first deals with cops breaking up a show... while beating down some Nazi punks! The second shifts focus to a different venue where free flowing beer got the fans a little two rowdy. Ramirez spins these tales like this:
When I worked at the Fireside Bowl in Chicago there was some show that drew a crowd of SHARP (Skin Heads Against Racial Prejudice) and old fashion Nazi skinheads. I don't remember the band but I remember the Nazi's bum rushing the front door with lead pipes and attacking people in the show. My staff and I stopped most of the violence but there was still a lot of damage done. Lots of blood and people on the ground. The bartender called the police as soon as everything happened. 5 paddy wagons and 10 police cars showed up and dragged out all the Nazis. The police beat the fuck out of all the Nazi skinheads and arrested them for assault. The image of Chicago Police pressing and crushing the skinheads outside the venue is still vivid in my head. By the way, after the cops demolished the skins, one came up to me and showed me his Ramones and Crass tattoo, I offered a beer and he drank it. I know cops suck most of the times, but there are are moments.
I was playing the Blue Flamingo in Austin, TX in the late 90's. I was in a fast drunk punk band called Traitors from Chicago, we had songs no longer than a minute and half. Anyways, the Blue Flamingo was a drag bar earlier in the night and they had punk shows late night. We had to headline for some reason, but they kept giving us free beer all night so we said fuck it. So it turns out that we were not only the people getting free beer. One of the bartenders threw up in one of the beer coolers and they were just washing off the beer and giving it away. This meant that everyone was drinking for free and was getting rowdy. The place was tiny and the bands played in the front of the bar in front of a window, the crowd was having fun. By the time we started at 1AM, shit was bonkers. We played 15 songs in 20 minutes. The crowd wanted one more and we had learned Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation" so we decided to play it. With in the first 10 seconds people were jumping off the bar, which is right next to the stage, into the crowd. Bar stools were flying and people were having fun, then someone dove out of the front window. Yep they ran through the band and dove through the window. Everyone stopped for a second and once he got up, we finished the song.
Volunteer joined in on an anti-Scott Walker charity compilation earlier this year and also just launched a new split with Buildings, which can be heard below or picked up at this location. More...

Flayed Announces New EP Release
Kaotoxin is proud to announce the first step of a collaboration with hard rockin' machine Flayed as the band’s new EP “XI Million” is due out November 4th worldwide.
Keeping up the tradition of the group's last two releases, “Symphony for the Flayed” from 2014 and “Monster Man” from 2015, “XI Million” has been recorded in the good old way, on analog tapes at Cartellier studio and later mixed and mastered at Vamacara studio.
Featuring four brand new originals and a Creedence Clearwater Revival cover, “XI Million” will also mark the first time a Flayed elease will ever be available on vinyl.
Singer Renato Di Folco comments: "The EP, made of two previously unreleased tracks from the 'Monster Man' sessions, a cover version and two brand new tracks, is meant to be a sort of link between our two previous albums and the next one but it’s also a link between Flayed‘s modern approach of hard rock and the path paved by its glorious ancestors with this traditional kind of artwork and the analog recording. It’s not just a filler release to fit our yearly schedule. It’s really something of its very own, created for its very own purpose and a piece of art on its very own too."

Ragnarok Resigns With Agonia, Announces Tour
Norway's Ragnarok has signed a new three album deal with Agonia Records, continuing the relationship that has so far seen the release of the Norwegian black metal veterans' seventh and eighth full-length albums, "Malediction" in 2012 and "Psychopathology" in 2016 respectively, as well as the special edition retrospective "Chaos and Insanity Between 1994-2004," which traces the first decade of the band's history.
Founder and iconic drummer Jontho, had this to say about the decision to stick with the label: "We looked at several other offers when our contract with Agonia expired, but one of the most important things for us was the kind of relationship we could have with a label. We know that with Agonia we can have open and honest discussions and exchanges of ideas, which always result in something productive for both parties. It's not just about releases for them, it's also about all the other things that go into making a band successful."
Agonia Records commented: "Ragnarok is in a class of its own for delivering more than two decades of truly intensive music. And that's a heck of a time. One could say a band is burnt out after so many years of artistic expression, but this isn't the case with Ragnarok. If anything's burning, it's their enthusiasm, that's being well channelized with experience. We are happy to re-new the deal and we are thrilled and looking forward to working on the upcoming releases!" More...
Re-Armed Enters "The Era of Precarity"
On September 30, 2016, Finnish Metallers Re-Armed will release "The Era of Precarity" internationally via Finland's Saarni Records. The physical core of the album is packed into a stylish digipak, which is made from ecological materials. The band has pledged to donate 50 cents from the sale of every copy to Karma Ry (Organization), which supports elder people and young adults in band's hometown area with their activities to prevent disenfranchisement.
Check out "The Era of Precarity" album teaser in the player below. The band has released the following statement about the new album: "'The Era of Precarity' is fully conceptual album where each track dives into a dystopian-world that you would never want to live in. The album reflects decadent elements of our society and challenges the listener to think what kind of world we want to live in now and in the future . All the major conflicts of the 21st century are still solved with warfare and the interesting question is; 'Do we really want to leave this perishing world as a legacy to our descendants?' Therefore the message is current and very serious. While you're listening to the record we recommend you to leave larping clothes, drinking horns and mythological characters into the depths of your imagination. The world is here and right now."
The track listing for the album is:
1. Novus Ordo Seclorum
2. Lullaby of Obedience
3. Through The Barricades
4. Riot Act

It just shows us kicking back, riding, smoking, and mostly importantly SHREDDING! I like how it builds up from just straight skanging around the street to something more meaningful.
