The Surrealist Releases "Self Spiral"
The Surrealist, an instrumental duo based out of Boston featuring guitarist Roopam Garg and drummer John-Marc Degaard, just released debut single “Self Spiral,” which heralds the band’s forthcoming EP "Naked Awareness."
Talking about the creative evolution “Self Spiral” represents for the Surrealist, the band commented that the song "was intended to introduce the whole concept of The Surrealist, and represent a new and introspective sound to the progressive music scene. Our music is the sonic embodiment of what you’d find in surreal artwork.
"Surrealism by definition is art that intertwines elements from contradictory worlds such as fantasy and reality. An example of this would be depicting an elephant with a trumpet its trunk, or a whale swimming through the sky in a bizarre fashion. The amalgam of such contrasting elements produces something that is challenging to the viewer. We intend to reflect this philosophy in a musical way. In this case, we hope to paint upon the canvas of silence by blending together a multitude of contrasting sounds. We hope to capture the imaginations of people and create music that completes a soundtrack to ones life.”
The "Naked Awareness" EP is scheduled for the September 17th release. About the creative process for this record, duo says: “Whenever we sit down to record, we rarely have any predisposed ideas. The writing phase and recording phase happen simultaneously, meaning that we would come up with a certain idea, or part of an idea, and then record it, vet it, and make any necessary changes before moving on to the next part of the song or idea. So essentially, we have no clue how the song will sound before we sit down to record, and we end up being pleasantly surprised with how it turns out. We just let whatever feels right at the time to guide the direction of the song. It sort of writes itself really. It’s pretty crazy.” More...

Cradle Of Filth Working On Album
Cradle Of Filth is very pleased to announce writing is underway for new material. The band has been locked away for the past week in a studio in Brno, Czech Republic, working on the follow-up to 2015's "Hammer Of The Witches" (reviewed here).
The evening before embarking on this creative quest, rather vocal front man Dani Filth said the following: "As a band we are very much looking forward to our writing session in Brno. It's going to be very inspirational to just bury ourselves away in a rehearsal room in the Czech Republic and knead our ammunition of razor sharp flesh-ripping sonic torments into sinister form.
"Hopefully when we emerge from our musical chrysalis one week later, something beautiful will be born. The new Cradle Of Filth album will be mostly written. Then will come the long Autumnal evenings bringing the monster further to life by dressing it in lyricism. I can hardly wait!
“As a band, Cradle Of Filth have already written about fifty percent of the material towards the new album, which now requires collating and readdressing. We started writing shortly after returning from our highly successful tour of the U.S. and Canada back in March. We were adrenalised by the whole reaction we received out there, having not been back to that part of the world for a fair few years. The camaraderie of playing to that many people across seven weeks really inspired us to start writing material again so soon after the release of our previous endeavour, 'Hammer Of The Witches'. "The Grand Noire" is a journey through dark passages and grim misfortune. The six tracks on the album are chaotic, brooding and blackened. Starwolf Records comments:
"To truly understand what Eschatos is, look inside your own abyss. Look inside those things that make you feel condemned, uncomfortable and wary, things that make you raging mad and rabid, things that make you feel hateful. This is the fuel that burns the black flame of art that is Eschatos – untamed, lawless, pure and destructive. Void and chaos is where all things are born, and so was Eschatos." More...

This has been a long journey for us.

Iced Earth Parts With Guitarist
Iced Earth guitarist Troy Seele today announces his departure from the band due to family responsibilities. Troy Seele's last gig with the band will be Knotfest in Mexico City on October 16th, 2016. He comments:
"After close to ten years as a guitarist in Iced Earth, the time has come for me to step away. Some of you know, but many do not, that I have a child with autism. In the past I had a great support system that has allowed me to pursue a career in music. That is no longer the case and it has forced me to make a difficult decision. I've always believed that family comes first, and now it is time for me to focus on that.
"The demanding life style of being in a professional heavy metal band is no longer an option for me. Knowing the band is focused on a new album and touring cycle, and given my circumstances, this is the best time for me to step down.
"Playing in Iced Earth has been a great experience. It's taken me around the world many times and given me the chance to meet many of my heroes, as well as play in front of crowds larger than I ever dreamed of.
"I personally want to thank Jon and the guys for the music and the amazing times through the years. Thank you to the fans for understanding and for your support." More...
