Pelander Signs With Nuclear Blast

Nuclear Blast Records has announced a curiously acoustic band signing today, issuing this statement:

"We are happy to announce that Witchcraft main man Magnus Pelander's solo project Pelander has officially signed to Nuclear Blast Records. After his latest journey with Witchcraft, 2016’s ‘Nucleus,’ the multi-instrumentalist and lyricist extraordinaire Magnus Pelander returns to his solo career. Magnus Pelander comments: "At last my first solo album is done and soon to be released. I cannot believe this is true."

Commented Nuclear Blast A&R representative Markus Jakob: "We're thrilled to not only work with a gifted artist as Magnus on his main band but now also on his solo career. Both Witchcraft and Pelander have always stood for variety, artistic freedom and development which we're more than happy to support. Prepare yourself for another deep and intense look into the mind and musical vision of a genius!"

Today Pelander also announces that the as-of-yet untitled successor to 2010's "A Sinner's Child"? EP will be released later this year. More details about Magnus Pelander's second solo album will be revealed soon. More...

Interview

Sodom Comments on “Decision Day”

German thrashers, Sodom may not receive the attention that thrash bands like the Big Four of America. After nearly thirty-five years, though, the group remains a viable act in the metal underground. Part of the reason they remain important to the metal scene is consistency. While Big Four Bands like Megadeth and Metallica took turns into more commercial territory, Sodom has stayed heavy and extreme.

Sodom is one of those bands you’ll often see stitched to a jean jacket. Seeing a Sodom patch on a jacket gives that person instant cred as a metal head. It’s not only a nod to the old school, but youngsters wearing the patches reveal the band’s longevity. Why not support the band? With their first albums “In The Sign of Evil” EP (1984), “Obsessed By Cruelty” (1986) and “Persecution Mania” (1987) were important records in the development of black metal. The next record, “Agent Orange” (1989) showed them take a step towards the heavier grooves and follow the path so many speed metal bands take into the realm of thrash. Since then, many of their riffs recall Slayer to the point one could say they’re Germany’s answer to Slayer.

The Eighties have come and gone, but Sodom is still here and still relevant. Their latest full-length “Decision Day” (due August 26, 2016) is another lesson in metal violence. Their sound is updated, especially production-wise, and there are less Slayer-isms, but one listen to the record and you know this is a Sodom recording. Band founder/vocalist/bassist Tom “Angelripper” Such screams and barks with utmost gusto, his voice often amplified by his band mates gang choruses. There is a good mix of speed and groove—plenty of head banging material. Latest drummer Makka brings a bit of “rolling thunder” to the band’s sound.

In the following interview, we reached out to Angelripper across the pond to talk about this new record and some of the themes he approached, both musically and lyrically, and to find out other information that fans of the band want to know such as if they’ll ever do a tour with Germany’s Big Four Thrash bands. Sheevaa Releases "Anger" Video

Sheevaa just released a relentless new video entitled "Anger." Combining the forces of nature and aggressive, hard hitting Nu metal, we witness the story of an unfolding character and his descent into insanity. "Anger" is taken off new EP "The Five Stages of Grief." The band comments:

"When we first decided to go with 'The Five Stages Of Grief' concept, I was very excited on phase two in particular; 'Anger.' Before we had written this song, I already knew the song should give off this anxiety attack type of feeling.

"Vocally, this song sounds like emotions were just released into a microphone without any hesitation or thinking. Majority of this EP is about my father who is diagnosed with Bi-Polar or also known as Manic/Depression.

"As I was growing up, I noticed the pills he was prescribed sometimes stabilized him, but other times made it much worse. He is a normal man battling his own mind. I then realized there are many others in the same situation as myself. You are truly not alone. I want Sheevaa to be something people can relate to on a different level. We hope you enjoy 'Anger' and enjoy the rest of the album." More...

Crowbar Comments On Metallica Cover Similarities

By now you've probably heard the news of Metallica's upcoming new album "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct" coming in November.

Everybody and their dog has had an opinion on the first track released, but there's been less talk of the distinctive cover art. Turns out Kirk Windstein from Crowbar has some thoughts, sharing the image bellow and issuing this post via Facebook:

"In all fairness, after touring with the mighty Metallica, while in Down... I know the fellas know who Crowbaris... however, I seriously doubt that any member of Metallica stole this idea from us. Maybe the artist? Anyway you slice it...it's a cool cover idea!!! Now James and Lars, go listen to 'Odd Fellows Rest!' Lol." More...

Metallica Comments On New Album

Metallica will release eleventh studio album, "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct," on November 18th, 2016 via Blackened Recordings.

The 2 CD / 2 vinyl set is the Grammy Award winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee's first studio album since 2008's "Death Magnetic."

"Hardwired...To Self-Destruct" is available for pre-order at this location starting today in various configurations. The album was produced by Greg Fidelman, who engineered and mixed "Death Magnetic."

"Has it really been eight years? Doesn't feel like it! Nudge, nudge, wink, wink," said Metallica's Lars Ulrich. "We're obviously beyond psyched to share new tunes with all our friends out there. We've been rockin' along in the studio with Greg on and off for the last 18 months firing up the creative engines again. Putting new music out there, getting in your faces once again and all that comes with it is what we love to do more than anything else, so strap yourselves in ... INCOMING!"

"Hardwired," the first track to be released from the forthcoming album, was played for the first time during a live remote broadcast from Metallica's HQ in the Bay Area. During an interview with Minneapolis rock station 93X, Lars Ulrich stunned 93X's Pablo by unleashing the incendiary song for the first time, much to the surprise (and delight) of the station.

If you haven't heard it yet, an official video for the track is available here. Metallica will also perform this Saturday, August 20th, at U.S. Bank Stadium - the new home of the Minnesota Vikings. The band's performance will be the first rock concert at the venue and tickets sold out in less than 10 minutes.

Additionally, in celebration of Saturday's performance, the band will be launching the official Metallica Pop-Up Store in Minneapolis this weekend, featuring exclusive show merchandise and items not available anywhere else. More...

After a 4 year hiatus the hottest name in grindcore is back with a much awaited third studio album. "Voices" offers up 20 ferocious slabs of punk-fueled grind of the highest calibre. Northern Crown To Release "The Others"

Florida Doom Metal force Northern Crown has announced the October 14th release of the full-length debut album "The Others." Following 2014's critically acclaimed EP "In the Hands of the Betrayer," the new Northern Crown is stretching out to new heights, with emphasis on the rock organ and a less rigid approach to the genre.

Main songwriter and guitarist Zachary Randall notes that "this is easily the most personal art I've ever created, both musically and lyrically." The care and attention to detail have refined the songs, creating real character and vision. Northern Crown is the sound of realization and reaction, with a touch of smoke and mirrors. Equal parts austere and ostentatious, but heavy all the way through.

Vocalist/guitarist Frank Serafine notes, "we know what we're good at now, and focused more on bringing out those performances from each other." The long-running title track, recalling a quote from philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, is sure to be another enthralling critical favorite.

Serafine summons a heady blend of his influences, such as Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford, Roy Khan, and Jorn Lande, for his performance. Former Northern Crown founding member Leona Hayward returns to the fold, rounding out the rhythm section with a heavy Steve Harris/Geezer Butler-inspired attack. Drummer Josh Brown is guided by the rule of elegant simplicity in his stylings and momentum. Guest performers on The Others also include Nightfall/Dark Hound guitarist Evan Hensley and organs by Vincent Perez.

The track listing is as follows:

1. With Malicious Eye
2. Surreality (The Tell-Tale Mind)
3. No One Came to Mourn Me
4. Apostate
5. A Pox Upon Your House
6. Les Autres More...
