It's funny. I went into the release of Death Magnetic with a little bit of hope but was ultimately left crestfallen per every album since Load.
THIS actually sounds like what Load -should- have sounded like. It sounds one of the more peppy tracks off Black... And it's f***ing good.
The lyrics leave a little to be desired but James isn't a table, so we're on the right track here. The solo had some of the old Metallica spirit too and it even closes well.
I'm smiling about Metallica and it's not because someone made a joke. :)

It's a good song.
It's short, too the point, something that had been missing in many of their songs over the past two decades. I really like the idea of it being as short as it is, different from the sort of mandatory 5 to 8 minute opening song, with or without an intro.
The lyrics serve the song well and nothing more. As far as the sound, it seems well balanced, the big difference being Lars' drums are were they should be. The guitars also seem to be were they should. I agree with DJ, as far as the solidity of the vocals and guitar.
Lars' performance fits the song; it's sober, wish is refreshing. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it's like he's playing on what his present strenghts are.
Kirk's solo sounds nice, but I have the feeling it's incomplete, like he was starting to develop the idea and someone said "Time's up!" and he had to just finish it the best he could.
As far as expectations, I would like each album to have no more than 45 minutes each. Yes, RM?, it is good we are smiling not because of a Metallica. Again, I like this.

Every Metillca album is has its ups and downs, and some times over time the downs become ups! If you don't like an Metillca album just listen to you local radio for a couple of years and then put that album in. I promise you will grow to appreciate it with out a doubt. I'm happy for Metillca still rocking out heavy sh** for as many years as they have! Thank you!!!

He just didn't get enough time. One big scream at the end would have been better than the abrupt silence but it was still a fitting solo. The last bit of the song has a nice little climactic build that worked for me anyway, but Kirk definitely should have gotten at least another 2-10 seconds to work with.
