Ozzy Comments On Sex Addiction

Following in the footsteps of David Duchovny, Colin Farrell, Kanye West, and many before him, Ozzy is now claiming sex addiction as the root of his recent problems. Osbourne posted this message online via Facbook:

"Over the last 6 years, I have been dealing with a sex addiction. I’m sorry if Ms. Pugh took our sexual relationship out of context. I’d also like to apologize to the other women I have been having sexual relationships with.

"Out of bad comes good. Since the press exposed this I have gone into intense therapy. I am mortified at what my behavior has done to my family. I thank God that my incredible wife is at my side to support me."

This coming clean stems from reports back in May of Sharon and Ozzy splitting over a tryst with the referenced Ms. Pugh, which subsequently led to some odd behavior and even rumors of Ozzy going missing.

On the music front (and that's why you're here, isn't it?) Ozzy also recently announced that Ozzfest would be combining with Slipknot's Knotfest. Details on the combined festival taking place in late September can be found here.

Interview

Helstar Talks New Album “Vampiro”

When Helstar answered my knock at the door to the green room at Grizzly Hall in Austin, Texas, frontman James Rivera smiled with a mouth full of fangs. As we proceeded through the interviewed, he continued to dress for the stage. He put on gauntlets and a Christopher Lee-type cape. He and the band were preparing for a set that consisted of many vampire tales. This was to promote Helstar’s latest full-length album “Vampiro,” as well as their first vamperic album, “Nosferatu.”

While remaining in the second decade of the new millennium, “Vampiro” is very much a return to their 1989 classic “Nosferatu.” One look at the lyrics and any fan of Dracula and vampires will know the films approached. Although beefed up in sound with faster drums and other signs of the modern, extreme metal age, “Vampiro” also recalls “Nosferatu” in its use of neoclassical guitar and speed metal licks by way of axe slingers Andrew Atwood (who also helped with lyrical concepts) and Helstar mainstay, Larry Barragan. Also, as in the case with their single, “Black Cathedral,” there are melodies that help instill theatrics and mood.

Rivera spoke to me right before Helstar took the stage. He wanted to warm his voice by answering a few questions. Read further to learn more about why he feels “Vampiro” will be considered one of the band’s masterpieces twenty years down from now.

Varego Releasing "Epoch" Album

Italian post metal / sludge group Varego today announces a new album following the debut “Tumultum” (2012), follow-up EP “Blindness of the Sun” (2013), and the digital single “Phantasma” (2015).

The new album is entitled "Epoch" and captures the band with renewed vibes made of unceasing guitar riffing, yet built on progressive structures with a cinematic touch. "Epoch" will be made up of six long tracks and will see the band renewing its long time collaboration with legendary producer Billy Anderson. Varego comments:

“The new album is our most relevant effort to date, born after several months of hiatus that gave us a new belief and attitude towards our means and targets. We are plenty satisfied of the band work, being able to capture and build up something different than before, keeping our roots alive and transforming them into an original sound full of energies and atmosphere. Having big influences from bands as Melvins, Neurosis, Voivod, and Motorpsycho, our aim was to create a sort of celebration of a certain music attitude and method. And the new partnership with Billy Anderson did the rest.” More...

Hobbs' Angel Of Death Announces Album Release

Hells Headbangers has set October 14th as the international release date for the long-awaited comeback album of Hobbs' Angel of Death, titled "Heaven Bled."

Helmed by one relentless maniac named Peter Hobbs, Hobbs' Angel of Death is one of the more unsung cult favorites of '80s metal. A statement from Peter Hobbs reads:

"With Hobbs' new album, I've tried to cater for a wider majority of metal lovers, giving a variety across the board with old-school feel and arrangements, but with a mature Hobbs' Angel of Death outlook. I know that I can't please everyone, but I have given this new album my heart and soul to accomplished another cult album in years to come!" Cover and tracklisting are as follows:

Vibrater Releases "New Era Of Terror" Video

Emerging from the depths of New York City and featuring founding members of industrial metal veterans Bile, newly formed hardcore metal band Vibrater is ready to take back the NYC heavy metal scene with an upcoming (and currently-untitled) album.

The impending release was produced by former Emmure guitarist Jesse Ketive. Vibrater combines the styles of EDM-influenced metal with old school punk and hardcore origins.

Vibrater's 10 track debut will be out later this year, but today, you can hear a sample of the new music via the band's music video for "New Era of Terror," directed by Mike Zinn and John Ricca.

Vocalist Kirk "Slash" Farrington comments: "After not seeing one another together in decades, we started talking. I was already working on music with Jesse Ketive and after bringing them up to speed we all thought it would be awesome to reunite fully and collaborate on new material and in addition to what Jesse and I had already started. Before we knew it, we had recorded a 10 track blistering and ultra-brutal melodic masterpiece!"

Farrington adds, "I've always admired Jesse's signature seven-string sound and knowledge of the perfect melodic-yet-brutal song structure like no other. He's basically the breakdown master, so when I had the opportunity to collaborate on this new venture with him, I knew it would be mindblowing." More...
