The Summer Slaughter Tour At Concord Music Hall

I'll admit that I've been out of the death metal scene for a few years and mostly listening to a lot of already established artists at the expense of new ones. In fact, I haven't been to a Summer Slaughter since 2011. So it was good to see a concert full of artists who I mostly haven't seen yet. Some really impressed me, other didn't. Either way, I wanted to be surprised by hearing artists who I mostly wasn't familiar with.

This year's Summer Slaughter Tour was primarily backed by Sumerian Records (who were also a major backer of Chicago Open Air) as a promotion of Sumerian's upcoming entry into films with American Satan. I'd normally have a problem with the biggest annual heavy metal tour in North America being rendered into a commercial for something completely unrelated but the former bearer of that torch was really just an advertisement for Monster Energy Drink. Triaxis Parting With Vocalist

Vocalist Krissie from U.K. based metal band Triaxis has checked in with this update about parting ways with the group:

"Dear Triaxians, at the end of 2016, I will be stepping down as vocalist of Triaxis with my last performance being at our now annual Christmas bash at Fuel Rock Club on Dec 16th. No, I’m not pregnant. No, I’ve not had a falling out with the guys (I adore them very much, which has made my decision very hard to say the least). No, I’m not joining another band.

"As most of you know, I run my own business and often that dictates a lot of when and where we are able to gig. Add to that that I’ve also done a fair whack of the backroom stuff for the band since I joined in November 2007, coupled with bouts of ill health over the last 12 months, I have decided that I need a break from performing and all that comes with running a successful band.

"Did I make the decision lightly? Hell no. I mulled it over for a good month before I decided and then I took a good three weeks before I could pluck up the courage to tell the rest of the band.
Then, why are you announcing it so early if you’re not hanging up your mic until the end of the year, I hear you ask? Because I want the guys to have as much chance to find a suitable replacement as possible, without it affecting the Triaxis gig calendar.

"It would be very unfair of me to ask them to wait until Dec to start hunting, when the band has a great run of gigs coming up taking it well into the new year. Also, I want them to utilize all avenues we have available for advertising, including the Facebook page and website, and I wanted to let you, the fans know, without you wondering what was going on when adverts started appearing. We all know what the rumour mill can be like, even when speculation is done with the best of intentions. More...

Mos Generator Streams Full Album

Yesterday the Washington state volume merchants from Mos Generator dropped their "Abyssinia" full-length album upon North Americas shores via Listenable Records. Check out a full stream below.

"'Abyssinia' is the continuation of an open relationship with many musical styles," said hyper creative mainman and composer of more than one-thousand songs, Tony Reed.

He goes on to say: "This kind of exploration has always been a part of my writing but now I'm letting the flood gates open and I'm welcoming all of my musical influences to flow through the songs. 'Strangest Times' and 'Red Canyons' are very typical Mos Generator style heavy rock songs but tunes like 'Outlander,' which takes a lot from the soundtrack era Pink Floyd, or 'Catspaw,' which sounds like something I would have written at age twenty under the influence of Husker Du and Voivod, move the band into a whole new area that I'm very excited to be moving towards." Scour Announces First Live Show

Pantera? Down? Obviously you know the bands, being a metal fan and all. Then you would also know that they were fronted by none other than Philip Anselmo. Well, he's back with an all-star lineup for his extreme metal project Scour.

With music created by Derek Engemann of Cattle Decapitation and John Jarvis of Pig Destroyer, Scour also features current and former members of Decrepit Birth and Agoraphobic Nosebleed. July 15th saw the band release a debut self-titled debut EP which can be heard in full below.

Anselmo previously commented, “The Scour thing was just something that popped up – it’s something I think I can kill, I can lay it out. It’s predominantly modern-ish thrashy black metal stuff. I’m going to put my own spin on it. I don’t have to sound like your boy from Gorgoroth to get the point across – there’s other ways of singing over that style of music, and I shall employ many styles."

February 23rd, 2017 will see the band perform live for the first time ever, and what is a more fitting arena then Blastfest in Bergen, Norway? They join the Devin Townsend Project, Dying Fetus, Between The Buried And Me and many more bands over the weekend from February 23-25. More...
