It Prevails Streaming New Track

It Prevails has premiered "Glimpse" online, the first taste of new music from the band’s upcoming album "Perdition." Give it a listen below.

"Glimpse is a track that we feel offers a look at the whole spectrum of sounds and moods we created on this album," vocalist Ian Fike stated. "Like a lot of subject matter on this record, Glimpse holds lyrics pertaining to finding a way out of the dark places in life. Self reflection and struggling to overcome personal demons."

"Perdition" is a new chapter in the life of It Prevails, a slightly darker and more focused take on the band’s sound.

Fike goes on to say, “After two years tracking this album we took time to reshape and remold anything we felt didn’t hold the 'sound' we had created with Perdition. What we were left with at the other side of this process is the album we sought out to create 10 years ago when we started this band.”

The "Perdition" album will be available this Fall through Mediaskare Records. More...

Trioscapes Releasing New Album

Progressive/fusion outfit Trioscapes will release sophomore album "Digital Dream Sequence" on August 19th via Metal Blade Records.

To capture the raw and dynamic mood the band shows at live performances, Trioscapes enlisted the expertise of Kris Hilbert at Legitimate Business in Greensboro, NC to record "Digital Dream Sequence." Those studio facilities offered the band the flexibility to track individually, or as an entire band, which was done for certain parts on the album.

Dan Briggs (bass, Between the Buried and Me), Walter Fancourt (tenor saxophone/flute), and Matt Lynch (drums/percussion) formed the trio in the summer of 2011.

Listen to the new song "Stab Wounds" below, and you can pre-order your copy of "Digital Dream Sequence" now at this location.

Trioscapes have evolved since its debut release, and "Digital Dream Sequence" can be accurately described as much more deliberate. Walter Fancourt explained that "after hearing the debut album that was the first time I felt like I knew what we sounded like."

Briggs added, "For the first record, the three of us came together just to write music for that album, not even really knowing we were writing for an album. After two years of touring, playing together, and casually working on new music, we really gelled and established more of a sound."

The completed songs were sent to Jamie King (Between the Buried and Me, Scale the Summit, Devin Townsend) for mixing and mastering. More...

Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 23

The Metalunderground.com Official Podcast treads some touchy ground this week. Japanese pop-metal sensation Babymetal, a trio of decidedly illegal adolescent girls, has in 2014 sent the global metal community into equal paroxysms of laughter and rage, depending on whom you ask.

The gossip seemed to have quieted down recently, until several Babymetal photo-op pictures began surfacing on various social media accounts, including one with bassist/vocalist Jeffrey Walker of Carcass. Co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) uses the subsequent reactions to examine just why “metaldom” seems always so eager to vomit bile at easy targets.

Next, it’s review time. Co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) tackles “Amanuensis,” the new album from UK progressive metalcore act Monuments. He and Mike both admittedly struggled with the tongue-twisting title, a word Merriam-Webster defines as “one employed to write from dictation or to copy manuscript.”

Finally comes a shared reaction to the latest teaser for the upcoming (yet still untitled) Slipknot album, and a retrospective discussion on the unlikely Iowan superstars’ meaning and legacy over the past fifteen years. Love them or hate them, their place in history is secure and not to be ignored.

To check out the full array of opinions this week, listen in here. You can subscribe via iTunes or RSS. Enjoy, and don’t hesitate to offer feedback. Even if you want to call us names.

Bleed The Dream Recruits Periphery Drummer

After a Spring announcement that the band would be returning with a new record this year - effectively ending an 8 year hiatus - Bleed the Dream officially confirms that Periphery drummer Matt Halpern will be joining to play drums on this new record.

Late drummer Scott Gottlieb, who passed away from Cancer on April 10th, 2005, will be there in spirit and is the main motivation of the reunion. The remaining band members had this to say:

“We have a really special surprise for fans. We are going to record a new album in tribute to Scott and have a special replacement planned to take his seat. We tried our best to find someone who played similar to Scott, as well as someone that’s playing was what Scott would have enjoyed. This album will be the darkest, most passionate, and heaviest to date, with a fall release and tours to follow.”

In honor of Scott, Bleed The Dream will donate a percentage of the profits from the new album to cancer research and to family members with loved ones currently fighting cancer. You can keep in touch with the band, check for tour dates and stay up to date with record release info at the Bleed The Dream Facebook profile.

Tim Lambesis Denied Reduction Of Jail Time

Last week it was announced that failed hitman hirer Tim Lambesis was seeking a reduction in his sentence, asking that the year he spent on house arrest with his parents count towards his planned six years of incarceration.

Radio.com is now reporting that the request has been denied by Judge Carlos Armour. An excerpt from the article follows:

Looking pale and grim with arms cuffed behind his back, Lambesis looked on as his defense attorney argued that his year with limited movement — only allowed trips to his attorneys’ office and medical appointments and to the bank — should count as time served. Prosecutor Claudia Grasso countered, “He’s not entitled to credits.”

Judge Carlos Armour stated the law is clear, that credits only apply to inmates held in lieu of bail; he described Lambesis’ status as electronic surveillance while out on bail. “The GPS monitor was not a condition of bail,” and so he was technically not on house arrest, the judge determined. According to statements in court, Lambesis was privately monitored, not by the sheriff who controls those in custody in San Diego County. Additionally, the judge denied the requested custody credits.

The session began with a review of the trial’s basic information. Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison on May 16. He was arrested on May 7, 2013, the same day he handed an enveloped full of evidence (money and photos of his family) to an undercover agent posing as a hitman. Lambesis was in the middle of a divorce with his wife of eight years, who has since reverted to her maiden name, Meggan Murphy.

Pig Heart Transplant Releasing New Album

The second album "For Mass Consumption" from Pig Heart Transplant - the solo work of Jon Kortland from Iron Lung -- has been declared for release this September, as a conjoined release between 20 Buck Spin and the band's own Iron Lung Records.

Pig Heart Transplant delivers a vicious beating with a different methodology: a slow, churning, industrial, electronic, painfully percussive, bureaucratic nightmare of State Power with gears grinding the individual into a hallow shell, perfectly molded into one of Them.

"For Mass Consumption" is composed of twenty-eight tracks, each approximately forty-four seconds long, each song bearing a four-letter word. The album will storm North America first via 20 Buck Spin on September 2nd, followed days later on September 8th upon European populations. Vinyl and cassette editions will follow via Iron Lung Records shortly after. The track listing is as follows: More...

EDITE Streaming "We Bears Are A Proud Race"

Everyone Dies In The End's "All Things Lead To This" album is due out on August 18th, 2014 after being picked up by the California based label Future Recordings and will be limited to 300 copies on “Coke Bottle” clear 180g vinyl.

Featuring former members of the East Coast hardcore/metal bands Lord By Fire and Facade Burned Black, Everyone Dies In The End is a band well versed in the ways of heavy music. Yet unlike their previous incarnations the Richmond, Virginia quartet has since traded in unabashed metal for a more accomplished approach on "All Things Lead To This."

With song titles pulled from the passages of works by Philip K. Dick or the dust jackets of Arthur C. Clarke novels, the macrocosmic influence these writers shared is also one that can be heard throughout this record. The track listing is as follows:

1. There Are Bigger Things Happening Here Than Me And You
2. Stay Alive No Matter What Occurs, I Will Find You
3. I Will Tell Tales Of Your Compassion
4. Who Are You, Whom I So Faintly Hear?

Colombian Necktie To Release Debut Album

Los Angeles sludgecore unit Colombian Necktie is preparing to unleash debut full-length, "Twilight Upon Us," upon the unsuspecting masses this August 19th, 2014.

Named after a method of murder where the victim's throat is slashed and the tongue is pulled through the open wound, Colombian Necktie's "Twilight Upon Us" was produced by Erol "Rollie" Ulug (Graf Orlock) at Bright Lights Studios, and the track listing is as follows:

01. Stockholm '73
02. Guiding Light
03. Play The Game
04. Alternate Dimensions
05. Weep For Rhe Future
06. Drought
07. Sleepwalking
08. These Three Words
09. Ready To Burn
10. Kevin's Song

"We don't feel like we fit in any one genre, we just kind of slam things against a wall and focus more on how it makes us feel than where it fits in," guitarist Juan Hernandez-Cruz admits. "Our influences range from Cave In and Snapcase to Orchid and Page 99 so we never try to limit ourselves when it comes to what we do stylistically."

It hasn't been a painless ride for the members of Colombian Necktie and correspondingly, much of "Twilight Upon Us" is rooted in tragedy as evidenced in the ten-minute opus "Kevin's Song."

"Kevin was a close friend of ours and former bandmate who actually brought the band together. When he passed away, something came over us and we started writing differently," Hernandez-Cruz reflects. "The tragedy was really heavy because Kevin was just driving to a show in San Francisco and we knew it could have been any of us."

"So much of the record is about loss and the struggle to try to cope in a city [Los Angeles] that isn't always forgiving," Hernandez-Cruz continues. "The silver lining is that this experience brought us closer as friends and musically in the sense that it made us all vulnerable and forced us to really listen to each other.

"This record has a lot of pain on it and a lot of unpredictable moments but it also feels good if that makes any sense and listening to this collection of songs, the listener gains the sense that not only are they not alone but that he or she can gain strength in the darkest of moments." More...
