Protestant Streaming "Vengeance"
Milwaukee's metallic hardcore/crust outfit Protestant is premiering "Vengeance," the opening track from forthcoming album "In Thy Name."
The band's fifth full-length will be released on August 15th via Throatruiner Records. The following press release was issued about the band:
"Milwaukee's Protestant, a full decade into its existence, has made a record more furious, focused and over the top than anything previous combined. This is perhaps a band with nothing to lose and no interest in anything other than spitting in the face of any enemy within reach.
"After four full-lengths and a plethora of EPs and splits, 'In Thy Name' brings the band's brand of dark and crusty metallic hardcore to new levels of sonic destruction. All wrapped up in a raw, noisy production, these eight tracks are nothing but a brutal collision of punk/hardcore and extreme metal that won't give any quarter, ever." More...

Death Penalty Reveals Debut Album Details
Death Penalty (featuring Gaz Jennings of Cathedral) is set to release a self-titled debut on Rise Above Records this coming September 16th in North America.
"When Cathedral split I didn't have any intention of getting another band together," Gaz admits. "I wanted to do a record, because Lee [Dorrian, Cathedral front man and Rise Above Records boss] has been saying for years that he'd give me a deal! But all my time was taken up writing stuff for Cathedral. I had a few bits and bobs lying around, so I started writing material a few years back and that's where it all started. And now the album is ready to go."
With such a formidable reputation to uphold, it was vital for Gaz to select the right musicians to work with in his new band. Enter vocalist Michelle Nocon and Fredrik "Cozy" Cosemans, members of Belgian doom warriors Serpentcult; a band that Gaz greatly admires and fellow Rise Above alumni. Although resident in Belgium, Michelle and Cozy were simply the right people for the job and kindred spirits that Gaz suspected would be perfect for helping him to realize his new musical vision. Tool Comments On Lawsuit And Album Delay
It's been eight years now since prog brigade Tool released the "10,000 Days" album, and fans have been antsy for a follow-up, with very little information coming from the band regarding the delay.
Now, in an interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Adam Jones and drummer Danny Carer have stated part of the reason for the long time between albums has been due to a lawsuit that wasn't made public knowledge.
An excerpt from the article follows:
Although both Jones and Carey acknowledge that two albums ago, when they were creating 2001's "Lateralus," they could settle into a lengthy creative process that external obligations now prohibit, the biggest problem has been a multi-level lawsuit that has weighed on all of the group members. This stemmed from a claim that a Tool associate had made against the group, but it eventually spiraled into the labyrinthine legal equivalent of a Laurel and Hardy routine, amounting to "who's suing whom."
Initially, in 2007, a friend of Jones' claimed that he had created artwork for the group that he wanted credit. But the suit got complicated when an insurance company that Tool thought would defend it against lawsuits turned around and sued the band over technicalities regarding the case. The band then filed a countersuit to defend themselves against the insurer's claims and now, seven years later, Tool are still deeply mired in litigation with the insurer. The case is scheduled to go to trial in January.
"The whole thing is really depressing," Carey says. "The bad thing is it's really time consuming. As we've gotten older and our priorities have changed, it's hard to get the band on a good, solid schedule as it is. People have kids now. And there's lots of other things that pop up. To throw this into the mix, it makes everything that much worse and stresses people out."More...

Eyes Set To Kill Cancels Upcoming Tour Dates
Last Tuesday while performing at the Aftershock Bar & Grill in Kansas, Eyes Set To Kill bass player Anissa Rodriguez was taken to the hospital for problems with her eye.
She was later diagnosed with a blood clot behind her left eye and was hospitalized until yesterday when the doctor let her go home back to Arizona, but she will be on bed rest for the next couple of weeks.
The band has now officially cancelled the remainder of upcoming tour dates in July as a result and hope to get back on the road and make up shows soon. Singer/guitarist and sister Alexia Rodriguez has released this statement:
"Eyes Set To Kill must unfortunately cancel the rest of our tour dates in July due to the recent discovery of a blood clot behind my sister Anissa's eye. I have witnessed my sister go through some painful procedures and I am thankful that I have had the chance to be by her side through it all. The doctor said she is going to need a couple weeks to recover and I will continue to stay by her side to help her back to health.
"We want to thank all the fans for their love and understanding. We also hope to make up for our cancelled appearances somehow, someway. This past week has been a scary journey but I am just happy I could be here for her through the most excruciating experience and we are both so thankful to have been reading all of the love from our devoted fans and family. I truly believe their prayers helped her spirits and sped up her healing process."
Dragonforce Streams New Song Online
Dragonforce will release "Maximum Overload" in the U.S. on August 19th via Metal Blade Records, and the album is available for pre-order at this location in CD, digital, and limited edition vinyl formats.
Today, Dragonforce unveils the second song from the upcoming album. The second single, entitled "Defenders," can be heard below thanks to Loudwire.
Produced by Jens Bogren at Fascination Studios in Örebro and Varberg, Sweden, the new opus will be the band's first ever album involving an outside producer, with the members having historically opted to record themselves in association with Karl Groom.
"Working with Jens gave us a different perspective on the songs and a different sound dynamic. We always previously recorded in our own studios but recording in Sweden made us focus and maybe drove us harder, Jens certainly did, he doesn't believe in days off!" said guitar maestro Herman Li.
"Maximum Overload" features a couple of surprises, notably a guest appearance on some of the songs from Trivium's Matt Heafy. "We've always gotten on really well with the Trivium guys and it was great when Matt had a couple of days to spare and agreed to weigh in on some of the songs!" added bassist Frederic Leclercq.
The album also features an all time first for Dragonforce: a cover song! Guitarist Sam Totman explained: "Just before the last Australian tour, our manager suggested it might be interesting to do a cover for the next album, something we've always refused even to consider. Because we had all had a couple beers every band member wrote down 3 songs each and we compared them all, just for a laugh. I wrote down 'Ring Of Fire' by Johnny Cash, an idea which the rest of the band loved, so we've Dragonforce-ized it"! More...

So it's obviously not a whole new Fear FestEvil convention, it's just a taste of the craziness you find at Fear FestEvil...and rest assured that we are working hard on the full Fear FestEvil II as you read this."

"Patrick is originally from Nashville, TN, and brings 13 years of drumming experience to the band. His power and progressive metal background is a perfect fit for Theocracy, and the band is thrilled to see where this new musical union leads them.
"Theocracy first met Patrick several years ago when he was a member of Nashvilles Oblivion Myth, and when the time came to begin searching for a new drummer, he was one of the first candidates they auditioned. It was immediately apparent to everyone that he was the perfect fit, both musically and personally. He has the skills to faithfully excecute all of the older material, while bringing his own brand of power, finesse and flair.
"To offer the fans a small glimpse of what he can do, the band recorded a live in-studio performance of the As the World Bleeds track 'Nailed,' which can be seen below. Armageddon Releases "Thanatron" Lyric Video
Armageddon, featuring ex-Arch Enemy guitarist Chris Amott, has released a second lyric video, this time for the new track "Thanatron" (check out the title track here). The song will appear on the upcoming new album "Captivity & Devourment." The album is expected out this year and has been described as "10 awe-inspiring and ingeniously crafted songs, full of devastating riffs, soaring guitar leads and fist pumping choruses. Heavy, melodic, technical, and groovy: this is creative metal songwriting with one foot in deep in the classics and and one eye gazing towards the distant future." "Captivity & Devourment" was mixed by Fredrik Larnemo at Studio Recordia and mastered at Stockholm Mastering.
Amott commented on the new track: "Thanatron is a heavy mid-tempo track with some dissonant harmonic ideas, and has some very interesting riffs. An ominous acoustic intro sets the the tone for some face-pummeling rhythms. Desecration of humanity. THE END.
Bassist Sara Claudius commented: "I called this song Thanatron, which literally means Death Machine, a term coined by Jack Kevorkian and used as a name for his invention. However, in this story, I’m telling you about a scientist who is watching the death of a star from many lightyears away and his… personal feelings about it, let’s just say. Across the album, I wrote the lyrics revolving around one character in a loose plot. We are looking forward to publishing this album and getting the songs, artwork, and lyrics together in one super metal package for you."
More information on the new album is expected soon. Check out "Thanatron" here: More...

Myrkur Streaming New Track "Nattens Barn"
Danish one woman black metal act Myrkur is streaming the new track "Nattens Barn," which can be heard below. The song will appear on upcoming debut self-titled release due out in North America on September 16th (September 12th German/Finland and September 15th in Europe) in CD/LP/digital formats via Relapse Records.
Emerging from the darkness of Scandinavia comes one-woman black metal project Myrkur. Combining the rawness of second wave black metal bands like Ulver and Darkthrone with a natural sonic, ethereal beauty, Myrkur has created a wholly unique perspective on the genre.
She elaborates: "Nature is a big part of the reason black metal even exists. And all types of pure music that comes from a pure place. The word 'Myrkur' means 'darkness' in Icelandic. The place where there are no boundaries, where no one can hurt me. And when I have sung the screams, it physically hurts but it feels like something is leaving my body. I can't remember it afterwards."
Hailing from Denmark, Myrkur signed to Relapse Records in 2014 and will release her eponymous debut EP this fall. With a distinct sense of Nordic isolation, Myrkur’s debut is a feminine yet definitively brutal record that has burst onto the scene like a Valkyrie into battle. "I always dreamed about becoming a Huldra, an elf girl, a Valkyrie, the goddess Freja. These powerful women in Norse Mythology have an element of beauty and mystique, but they are also deadly," Myrkur explains.

New 220 Volt Album Expected This September
Swedish hard rock act 220 Volt will release its sixth studio release, and first full length release in 17 years, this September. The band reported the latest progress on the release via Facebook:
"Will deliver final master in a day or two, just waiting to approve the last version. We have 13 new tracks on there, and album starts with the epic title track and ends with a track that has sort of a connection to the title track..in a way.. All mixes and album cover finished, and ready to go!
"We have stretched out a bit and many songs are a little longer than usual, 3 tracks being well over 5 minutes. The thing will be released late september and we can't wait to let you hear this!
"We'd like to share more info, and we will as soon as record companies involved give us the go ahead. Excited!"
