The Scintilla Project, the new side project for Saxon frontman Biff Byford, will release the debut album "The Hybrid" via UDR music this year. The album will be available in digipak CD, vinyl LP and digital audio formats.
The project was formed in 2013 and was inspired by the upcoming sci-fi film release "Scintilla." The plot of the film is: "An elite team of mercenaries is hired for a covert operation, deep inside a former Soviet state. Arriving at an underground laboratory, their mission is to secure specimens of genetically engineered human and alien hybrids. Battling with a ferocious armed militia as well as dark, menacing creatures, the odds of survival are stacked against them."

Silent for nearly four years, U.S. black metal act Krieg will present seventh full length recording "Transient" on September 2nd via Candlelight Records.
Featuring vocalist N. Jameson with studio guitarists A. Poole and D. Zdanavage, bassist D. Sykes, and drummer J. Dost, the album also features guest appearances from Dwid Hellion (Integrity) and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth).
Jameson notes, “This is the first album we have done that features a band that has worked together for an extended period of time that had a fully realized vision of how the record was supposed to sound.”
The "Transient" will include eleven new songs, including a remake of Amebix’s “Winter.” Jameson says, “there was never any idea to stay within the confines that black metal has become. This was liberation. It is probably the most ‘black metal’ record I’ve done in almost ten years.
"This record encompasses another autobiographical gallery of a life misspent, a negative existence. At its core, it is probably the most miserable and anger-fueled thing I’ve ever put to tape.”
Further details and upcoming tour dates are set to be announced shortly.
Norwegian prog/death metal trio Diskord has completed work on upcoming record "Oscillations." The mini-album is due out on digipak CD (August 15th) and two-variant colored vinyl (September 2nd) in cooperation between Hellthrasher Productions (Europe) and Australopithecus Records (North America).
The band’s bass player/vocalist, Eyvind, comments: “For this recording, we went into the studio with an intention to keep things simple and straightforward, and not spend too much time obsessing over every little detail. Out of this came a recording that is quite raw and unpolished, with a sound that we think is pretty close to what we sound like live or in the rehearsal space. The six songs on here should be recognizable in style to fans of Dystopics and Doomscapes, however, there are a few twists and turns here and there, of course. For instance, we have experimented with adding a few new elements to our sound, perhaps most notably through the addition of bowed (arco) bass on a couple of songs. Furthermore, this is the first recording with new guitarist Håvard Østli, and he has absolutely left his mark on it in terms of riffs, leads, lyrics, and vocal and guitar performances. Former guitarist Espen Hangård has also contributed to a couple of songs this time around.”
“Oscillations” features the cover artwork by Sindre Foss Skancke, and a music video for "Horrid Engine" can be seen below. The track listing is as follows:
1. Horrid Engine
2. Lethargic Regression
3. Hermit Dream
4. Elytrous Oscillations
5. Symbiotic Whims

Metalsucks is presenting the "A Decade of Guilt" North American tour featuring Arsis, Allegaeon, and Exmortus. James Malone from Arsis comments:
"10 years ago I was a full time college student that was given an opportunity. The musical project that I had been working on 'for fun' on breaks from school was asked to record a full length album for a small independent record label.
"I had no idea at the time what the response would be to the album, or if there would be any response at all. Almost as soon as the album was released, much to my surprise, we were getting attention from around the world and my life was forever changed.
"That album was called A Celebration of Guilt and myself and everyone in Arsis, would like to celebrate it's 10 year anniversary by playing the album...in it's entirety...on tour. Many of songs have not been played live in years, if ever. Here's to a decade of guilt and METAL!!!" More...

In another of our preferred genre's ridiculous "That's Not Metal!" accusations that just makes us all look like a bunch of whiny, bickering schoolgirls, a petition has been launched to get the band Ghost to break up.
The petition currently has 625 signatures (with the hopes of reaching 10,000) and can be found at this location. The organizer of the petition comments:
"We petition against Ghost of the heavy metal genre that continues to make albums and tour. Many people getting into metal think that they are the real deal and that we should forget the real bands like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. They wish to destroy real metal with their carnival music nonsense. Seriously, is a song like If You Have Ghost actually something that a real metalhead would listen to? They are not metal. People also make the erroneous claim that they are so directly inspired by King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, which is just wrong. They are, in fact, a watered-down version of BOC. We the people oppose Ghost continuing as a band, and they should be split up as soon as possible.
"Obviously just 100 won't convince Ghost and their management to listen! If we get 10,000 signatures then MAYBE they will listen and stop making music. Ghost has already spent the last several years butchering our ears with their awful poser music. Real metal does not involve Hot Topic bands. Ghost is not metal. Thank you for reading." More...

"Dear fans, we have a sad announcement to make.
"Unfortunately, our drummer Vojta is leaving the band because of time issues and different plans for the future. We wish him luck in his future endeavors.
"In the meantime, we're trying to get together with a new drummer so we can return to Brutal Assault with complete band and our set. Cross your fingers so it all works out! Thank you for your love and support guys!" More...
Southern Lord today dispatches the full details for "Poison Everything," the debut full-length from Southern California's unhinged punk/hardcore outfit, Obliterations.
Comprised of current and ex-members of Black Mountain, Saviours, and Night Horse, Obliterations delivers a blazing blend of Poison Idea, Discharge, and Black Flag, set to a live show that willfully incites and encourages one's aggressive tendencies to shine.
A day after returning from the Southwest U.S. tour in March, the band recorded with producer Chris Owens (Lords, Coliseum, Young Widows) at Dave Grohl's Studio 606 in only three days. Mixed by Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Black Breath) at God City Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Tragedy, Integrity, Sleep) at Audiosiege, the end result of "Poison Everything" is a thirteen-song, twenty-nine-minute record full of raw brutality.
"Poison Everything" will see worldwide release on Southern Lord in North America on October 28th and just one day earlier in Europe. The track listing is as follows:

Suffokate has been embarked on the "Murder Without Motive Tour" alongside Abiotic, Aegaeon, and As They Sleep. Now the band has issued the following announcement about dropping off the tour and parting ways with two members:
"We unfortunately have to announce that we are officially dropping off the remaining dates of the Murder Without Motive tour.
"Our guitarist Jason Graff and bass player Ivan Munguia informed us 2 days ago that they have decided to leave the band and that they would not finish the remaining tour dates. We apologize all our fans, the promoters, booking agents, as well as the bands on the tour package (Abiotic, As They Sleep).
"The remaining band members did want to finish the tour, and made our best attempt at making that happen but were unable to track down a van, trailer, guitarist, and bass player with such short notice.
"This does not mean the band will be breaking up, our vocalist John, lead guitarist Miguel, and drummer Lars are all here to stay. On that note if you are a bass or guitar player, preferably with tour experience, and are interested in auditioning please message us at this page. Thanks" More...

Steamhammer/SPV is proud to announce that Onkel Tom - the project from Sodom's Tom Angelripper - just inked a worldwide record deal. The new Onkel Tom album "H.E.L.D." will be released in September, 2014.
Georg Schröder from Steamhammer comments: "It was more than logical that the new Onkel Tom album will be released via Steamhammer. Tom is already an integral part of our roster with his thrash metal band Sodom and we are pretty sure that we can push Onkel Tom to the next level together. The upcoming new album called H.E.L.D. (more information on the album to follow soon) is without any doubt one of the best German-language rock/metal albums of the year. It’s authentic, musically and lyrically sophisticated and last but not least it’s the perfect soundtrack for your next rock n roll party."
Onkel Tom's Angelripper adds: "Hi fans! Just wanted to fill you in on the latest developments. I’m very happy to announce that we’ve signed our new deal with Steamhammer/SPV in Hanover. Steamhammer/SPV have been our record company for Sodom from the start, and I’m really pleased that we’ll also be working together on the Onkel Tom stuff. Structures at SPV have changed for the better, with the result that they’ve had increased success promoting and selling more and more German-language music in recent years. I’m confident that Onkel Tom is in good hands and that we’ll get the opportunity to present our music to a wider audience at last.
"The new album is in the can – and what can I say? A whole load of first-rate metal/punk and rock songs have been recorded, peppered with moving lyrics full of anarchy and anger, but also full of lust for life and irony. And of course full beer glasses. Production, song writing and arrangements went hand in hand, everything fits together. For me personally it’s the most diverse and musically accomplished album of our career to date.
"This diversity is owed, not least, to the different characters of our band members and the bands they come from. Each of us has been involved in the creative process, the writing of the lyrics and the overall concept. We wrote whatever came into our heads, without any outside influences, so the result sounds thoroughly autonomous and will definitely set us apart from other acts. We will let you know the release date and all other information in the next few days." More...

After kicking off a European festival tour, New York Hardcore act Sick Of It All also announces today the release ofupcoming album "The Last Act Of Defiance," which is scheduled out September 30th in North America and September 29th in Europe via Century Media.
Asked about what he wants fans to walk away with after hearing "The Last Act Of Defiance" Armand Majidi's (drums) answer is very simple: "I want them to feel that they just heard a hardcore record that has everything, from blistering speed to bouncing groove, to heavy and pounding to bright and melodic."
The eye-catching cover artwork comes from Ernie Parada, who has already designed posters, merchandise, and album art for numerous bands and artists from the punk and hardcore scene such as Hatebreed, Propagandhi, Rancid or The Gaslight Anthem just to mention a few.
"The Last Act Of Defiance" was produced by long time friend and producer Tue Madsen who recorded the album at Nova Studio in Staten Island, NY while mixing it in his own Antfarm Studio in Denmark.
Armand Majidi commented about why Tue Madsen is the perfect match for Sick Of It All: "Not only do we get along famously, but he has always understood how to capture the band's intensity in the quietly controlled, less-than-intense studio setting. It was always difficult for us to find an engineer who could capture our live sound before meeting Tue, so now that we've found him, he's our guy."
The track listing of the album reads as follows:
1. Sound the Alarm
3. Road Less Traveled
4. Get Bronx
5. Part of History
6. Losing War
7. Never Back Down
8. Facing the Abyss
9. Act Your Rage

After parting ways with Hannes Grossmann And Christian Muenzner earlier this month, Obscura has set up a row of auditions in August / September to find fitting members who may participate in the band's upcoming album.
The yet-untitled fourth full length is the third out of a four album concept arc that started with the release of "Cosmogenesis" (reviewed here) in 2009. Steffen Kummerer comments:
"Currently we are in the middle of the songwriting process for our new album. The yet finished material turns out to focus on the trademarks we established during the last 12 years. Technicality paired with stringent arrangements, progressive riffing across fusion and death metal that makes Obscura sound unique. We will enter the studio by the end of 2014. Since Christian Muenzner and Hannes Grossmann departed we recieved requests from all over the world. We invite the candidates that may fit and get in touch directly with each person. To both, Christian and Hannes; I wish them the best for their solo careers and new projects."
Linus Klausenitzer adds: "We spend a lot of time for songwriting and preproduction to make the new songs as intense as possible. Every album needs to have a certain vibe to stand out from the others. I'm glad that we can see this picture in the puzzle already."
Cemetery Lust is currently streaming the entire "Orgies Of Abomination" album online, which can be heard below or ordered via Hells Headbangers here. The label also comments:
"One of Hells Headbangers latest unearthings from metal's dirtiest underground, Cemetery Lust present their highly anticipated debut for the label, Orgies of Abomination. Following on from their cult debut Screams of the Violated, soon to be reissued by Hells Headbangers, Orgies of Abomination sees these Portland sleaze-bangers perfecting their vile, violent craft.
"Fittingly titled, Orgies of Abomination is a veritable smorgasbord of lyrical depravity, ably backed up by filthy, feral thrash metal that equally nods to '80s German proto-black, San Francisco speed metal, and even South American proto-death, all done with devilish glee. These songs stick in your head, and then Cemetery Lust explodes right out of it, cremating all party-thrash pretenders. Right from the beginning until the bloody end, Cemetery Lust demand you partake in Orgies of Abomination!"
The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Inhumane Indulgence 01:44
2. Mass Grave Orgy 03:51
3. Malice In The Morgue 04:33
4. S.T.D. (Sexually Transmitted Death) 04:02

10. Intent To Molest 01:54

After debut EP "Euphoric Curse," Sunderland (UK) based stoner/doom metal outfit Witch Charmer is following it up with a new full-length record raising the bar on what came before. Argonauta Records comments:
"The band (featuring the talents of Kate McKeown - Vocals, Dave McQuillan - Drums & Vocals, Len Lennox - Guitar & Vocals, Adam Clarke - Guitar & Vocals, Richard Maher – Bass) expands on the sound from the previous release and add a monolithic slab of smoked out doom and groove to take you on a satirical journey to enlightenment.
"'The Great Depression' has been mixed and mastered by Tony Reed (Mos Generator, Stone Axe) and will be released by Argonauta Records in September 2014.
"Just wait for a massive dark, groove-laden, heavy stoner-doom album that fans of Acid King, Purson, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Goatsnake & Electric Wizard cannot miss!" More...
The New York death metal tyrants in Internal Bleeding will release their new full-length, "Imperium," to the masses on September 30th via Unique Leader Records.
The album was produced by the band alongside Joe Cincotta at Full Force Studio (Suffocation, Dehumanized, Mortal Decay) in Ronkonkoma, New York and engineered by Cincotta and Derek Boyer. "Imperium" also boasts the menacing artwork of Mircea Gabriel Eftemie (Carcass, Cryptopsy, The Haunted, Nevermore et al) that can be seen below. The band comments:
"Ever since Invocation Of Evil was released, many in the music press and industry simply dismissed Internal Bleeding as another generic death metal band. We knew different, our fans knew different and the underground press certainly knew different. They understood that we offered something fresh and unique: death metal that focused on pit-friendly grooves, catchiness and hooks that you could actually remember. At the time, we called this approach to death metal 'Total Fucking Slam.' And though we garnered a great deal of underground acceptance, we had to fight a perpetual uphill battle against critics, naysayers and elitists who did nothing but talk a lot shit and run their mouths behind our backs or in print. We ignored them and kept plowing forward, but we never forget....
"To add insult to injury, our first two albums suffered from horrendous productions which no doubt made it more challenging to get people to truly understand our music. And by the time our third and fourth albums were released, we had no label or tour support and limited resources to keep things going. By the early-to-mid 2000s, we were a broken and dispirited unit and eventually fell into inactivity and disarray.
"Eventually our term - slam - had been picked up by hundreds of underground bands and a whole new genre of death metal was spawned. The seeds we had planted had finally come to bloom yet we were unable to enjoy even a modicum of recognition for it. It had been an extremely frustrating twenty years. We gave it our best, but in the end, we fell short of our goals.
"These experiences, plus other personal setbacks and tragedies, are the impetus behind the album title Imperium. It means a dominion of absolute power. It's a statement to those who've caused anyone to feel slighted, disrespected, tormented and generally abused. It's a clarion call to the victims of these tormentors - the abused child, the bands that struggle and come up short, the outcast, the geek and the populations that have been crushed under the boot of totalitarianism - to rise up, join us and take a rightful place at the throne of power. With Imperium, the time has finally come to turn the tables on the tormentors and make them suffer. More...

Ever since the firing of bassist Hal Patino, a flurry of statements from both camps has ensued - airing dirty laundry of the past and present.
Patino performed on the following King Diamond releases: "Them" (1988), "Conspiracy" (1989), "The Eye" (1990), "Abigail II: The Revenge" (2002), "The Puppet Master" (2003), "Deadly Lullabyes Live" (2004) and the latest studio effort "Give Me Your Soul....Please" (2007).
This past Saturday, Patino issued the following response statement just hours after the official statement was released by King Diamond:
"After 19 years in King Diamond - bassist Hal Patino has decided to leave the group. It's sad that it had to end this way after - 19 years. I have always been 100% loyal to everyone in the band, and have always given my everything -onstage and offstage. Since day one I have always had King Diamond as my nr. 1 priority. I've never ever missed any shows or rehearsals - my performances have always been well prepared (and I've always been ahead of the game). I have been a faithful friend to King, and kept my spirits up even in the toughest times.
"I will not go into every detail, but the salary I was offered to headline Wacken Open Air, and the 4 other shows this summer was totally ridiculous. Two days before the first rehearsal day, I wrote an e-mail explaining my view on that topic along with a proposal for a fair and realistic salary for these shows, For this, they accused me of’ 'blackmailing'!!!
"I found it disrespectful, and told them that if that is how I get treated after 19 years, we part immediately !! So I already left the band on Thursday the 17th of July, by my own choice. Of course it's not the only reason why I have decided to leave. Problems already occurred during the last European tour. Suddenly there were rules for my stage clothes and my way of performing, and there were bad vibes because I promoted and helped my son's band.
"It’s typical King to say that I’m fired - he did the same to me back in 1990 when he told the press that I was kicked out of the band due to lack of enthusiasm and drug problems. That was NOT the reason … It was just Too much touring, King got dropped by Roadrunner Records, and I wanted to go in another direction. He did the same to my best friends Mikkey Dee and Pete Blakk. Phoenix, AZ natives and modern thrashers Incite, founded by Richie Cavalera, son of Soulfly's Max Cavelara, recently finished the recordings for the upcoming new album entitled "Up In Hell." The band's third full length release will be out on September 2, 2014 via Minus HEAD Records.
The band took up studio time with Matt Hyde (Deftones, Slayer, Hatebreed, Parkway Drive) at Hideaway Studios, who produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the record. Production assistance was provided by Thomas Bellier and Jon Nicholson of Drum Fetish is credited as drum technician on the album.
“Matt Hyde definitely took us out of our comfort zone, but the result is, in my opinion, the best INCITE album to date,” adds bassist Christopher “EL”. Drummer Lennon adds, “This record has everything. It grooves, it slams, it thrashes, it stomps and it moshes!”
Vocalist Richie Cavalera added: “Matt was incredible was the perfect person to head us in the right direction in every way. I feel this album captures INCITE perfectly from the drums to the guitar to bass it’s all just how it needed to be. He worked us hard and pushed us the max to get the best out of each member and each song. I had times where i wanted to give up but he just said keep doing it you'll get it and that’s what you need someone to push you but still keep you focused. He paid attention to everything and i loved that he told us when something sucked and when it was awesome. He got me to build structure like never before on lyrics and i think that’s what you notice right away on this record. I couldn't have asked for a better person, he has the history and the knowledge we wanted and thank him every day for this record.”

New Zealand metal act Monsterworks announced that the band's new album will be entitled "Overhaul" and will be issued via Eat Lead and Die Music on August 12, 2014. "Overhaul" will be available as a download and 180g gatefold vinyl signed by the band, with lyrics.
The new track "Trial of the Sentient" was premiered exclusively via GunShyAssassin.com at this location.
Vocalist/Guitarist Jon had this to say about the themes surrounding the album:
"This is our follow up to Monsterworks :: Universe from earlier this year. It was hard to go thematically vaster than the Universe, so we took a step back and started looking at mankind and civilization itself. Overhaul is effectively about the change we have to go through as a species in the hope of avoiding annihilation. There are definitely some common themes being explored that started to emerge in the last album; mostly about projecting where we will ultimately end up by the time the Universe ends in a few trillion trillion years or so. This side of it was inspired by an Asimov short story: The Last Question.
"Musically, this one is a little more stripped back and is perfect as the first release we will do on vinyl. Releasing an LP is particularly exciting for the band and special thanks go to James Plotkin for handling the mastering. James has a vast body of work, but recently did the re-masters for ISIS (awesome post-metal band, not Islamist loons) which are great.
We continue to aim to produce music/lyrics that will exercise the grey matter, but first and foremost this is a metal album we are really proud of."
The track list for "Overhaul" is:
1. Educate the Masses
2. To Do What Must Be Done
4. Trial of the Sentient
6. Resolution More...
