Now that Tuesday has rolled around again its time for another Pit Story shared by metal bands from all genres and locations.
The pit can be the center of the live show experience, where metal heads can get their aggression out, but injuries are an unfortunate byproduct - and a badge of honor for many show veterans. This week Wyoming metal/hardcore outfit Righteous Vendetta shares the following story of a fan getting trampled in the chaotic sea of the mosh pit:
Being a smaller band at this point we have seen a good amount of mosh pits but nothing as massive as say an As I Lay Dying pit. That said, we have seen some pretty crazy injuries in the pits. As a kid I always went to As I Lay Dying shows and got in the pits which consistently would extend 50 feet in diameter around the sound board. I remember running, breathing in all the dirt as I struggled to keep up with the people in front.
Something similar to this scenario happened at one of our shows in Wyoming. A circle pit broke out in the middle of this venue/skate park. I would say it was about 20-30 feet in diameter. There were huge kids, tiny kids, old kids, and youngsters alike. About fifteen seconds into the pit I saw a kid trip and fall and get trampled, I lost sight of him as the pit continued and forgot about what happened shortly after the incident.
We finish our set and someone comes up to us asking about the kid. Well apparently when he tripped he broke his ankle, not only that, when he was basically run over, his right arm was completely broken in half by someone who stepped on it. Both bones were protruding from his arm. In our compassionate hearts we went to visit him at the hospital where we just missed him as he went into surgery. I believe we drew him a nice picture!
Righteous Vendetta recently completed recording a new album at JTW Recording Studios with producer Joel Wanasek. The album is due out later this year, with more details to follow. Stay up to date with the band's latest activity over at Facebook. You can also start your own pit at a Righteous Vendetta show on these dates:
7/26 - Sheridan, WY @ Sheridan Fairgrounds
8/02 - Kassel, GERMANY @ Freakstock Festival
8/10 - Rybnik, POLAND @ Sonar Days Festival
8/16 - Grossandelfingen, SWITZERLAND @ Heavenstage Festival
Check back in next week as we share more Pit Stories, and let us know about your craziest metal show experience, and whether you've got any pit-induced injuries, in the comments section below.

Once it's released, "The Circle" CD and book will be available for free on the band's webpage. Neverdream's older albums are available already to download for free at this location.

3. A Life Beyond
6. Hell's Flower

Canadian melodic death metal act Laika has checked in with the following announcement about parting ways with guitarist Ronnie Ladobruk:
"Last night's show was a momentous occasion to bring another chapter to a close in Laika's nearly 5 year history, thank you all for coming out to witness Ronnie's last show on a Monday night nonetheless.
"We bid Ronnie farewell to pursue other projects. His time in Laika was fantastic, by far one of the more talented members we have ever had in the line-up. Even though we will lose a guitarist progress wont be halted.
"We start recording scratch tracks for the long overdue album 'Somnia'. Expect videos, teasers and much more. Stay tuned..."

Norwegian Grammy winning noise-metal-punks Årabrot will release their self-titled sixth LP through Fysisk Format in North America on September 3rd, following the European release on August 19th. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Årabrot follows the band’s greatest success story to date, the 2011-released Solar Anus LP. With more uncaged power than ever, the album surprised even Årabrot’s own diehard fanbase; suddenly biblio-pornographic lyrics had become popular culture, as had Steve Albini’s sparse production technique. Solar Anus featured on many best-of-the-year-lists, and it received widespread good reviews, including NME who called the record 'as unsettling as a thunderstorm approaching a medieval battle [8/10]' and The Stool Pigeon who, in a 5/5 review, dubbed them 'one of Europe's best heavy rock bands.' Årabrot is also now supported by Fund for Performing Arts and The Art Council of Norway.
"While writing Årabrot, singer and guitarist Kjetil Nernes inhabited an old abandoned church just across the border in Sweden, in a pastoral countryside where time has stood still for generations. While the lyrics on the 2010 release Revenge were a revenge fantasy dedicated to a certain someone, and Solar Anus and Mæsscr told stories of the human beast, Årabrot revolves around breaking away from city life and the feeling of social asphyxiation invoked by them. Nernes has revealed that much of the inspiration for the lyrics has been found in early 20th century surrealists like Georges Bataille and Robert Desnos, mixed with a fascination for the mythologies of ancient Greece and the Old Testament.
"Årabrot features a widened family of collaborators, most notably Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh/4AD), who in addition to recording and mixing the album, also plays bass and does backup vocals. Basic riffs, percussion and vocals were laid before Norwegian experimental music stalwarts Lasse Marhaug and Erland Dahlen added their musical substance to the mix, and a random visit by Laura Pleasants of Kylesa resulted in guest vocals on 'Arrabal's Dream. The album was then mastered by Jason Ward at Chicago Mastering." More...

Ohio-based Homewrecker is currently headed out to the West Coast, determined to level every city in the band's way getting there and back on tour over the following two and a half weeks.
The action begins tonight in Milwaukee and then cuts a counter-clockwise scythe of destruction down the West Coast and through the Southeast and Midwest getting back to Ohio. Several shows will see Homewrecker sharing the stage with Malfunction and Black Ice, with local support to appear on each show as well.
Also just in, Homewrecker has been confirmed to head back to the West Coast again just over a month after the current tour ends. This newly-confirmed sixteen-date voyage will see the Homewrecker outfit joining Atlanta powerviolence trio Dead In The Dirt and Chicago’s hardcore innovators Harm’s Way.

California's Annihilated has signed a record deal with Unique Leader Records. The label issued the following statement about the signing:
"We are pleased to announce that LA based death metal outfit Annihilated has joined the Unique Leader roster.
"Annihilated was formed in 2008 founded by guitarist's Eric Matranga and Robert Fimbres; shortly after disbanding from the L.A. Death Metal band 'Excretion.' They began to create songs with a sense of purpose to outlet their vital message to promote rational thinking and to freely question what’s being told to us through the associated press and new media outlets. In 2012, drummer Scott Fuller (Abysmal Dawn) joined the group with the same values and ideologies. Helping to succeed their musical purpose, he added a new dimension of percussive flavor and syncopation to the music.
"Shortly after, they recruited (Ex-Decapitated) bassist Martin Rygiel to lay down bass tracks on their EP 'Injected.' Martin's thunderous bass attacks and vast knowledge of music added the aggression and solid foundation the group was hoping for. The band self-released their EP 'Injected' in 2012, recorded at John Haddad's Trench Studio's in Corona, CA by the bands own Scott Fuller, who also handled the production duties. More...

British black metal outfit Old Corpse Road has checked in with the following announcement about pulling out of a festival and recruiting a temporary drummer for coming live shows:
"You may have already read but sadly we've had to cancel our performance next Friday at the Out Of The Ashes Festival. Sadly The Dreamer is temporarily out of action so cannot perform live drums for the time being. Don't let this stop you going to the festival as it's sure to be a fantastic weekend of metal.
"The good news is that we've managed to recruit a session drummer for the foreseeable future to ensure no further gig cancellations. We'd like to welcome to the fold Box Head (Boxhead Percussion), who you may know from his drumming skills in Aloeswood and Ravenage.
"We'd like to thank Box for coming on board in our hour of need. Please give him a warm welcome."
The trolls of Nordic folklore are believed to be dirty creatures of enormous strength and appetite. Their grotesque physique grants them a comic element, although the humor tends to be on the grim side as these nocturne beings hunger for human flesh. Unsurprisingly, this has earned them a rather bad reputation.
All things considered, Finntroll are the perfect embodiment of all aforementioned sentiments - although one might want to replace the hunger for human meat with an unquenchable thirst for booze. Catch the trolls on tour in November/December with Blackguard & Metsatoll:

Update: Vikernes has now been released and no charges have been filed.
Euro News (see article at this location) has reported that Burzum's Varg Vikernes has been arrested in France on what authorities have called "suspicion of planning a massacre."
Vikernes' wife had legally purchased four guns, but suspicions had already been raised when the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, the man responsible for killing 77 in Oslo two years ago, had reportedly been received by the musician. French authorities searched his home for weapons and explosives and the prosecutor has deemed him "likely to prepare a large-scale act of terrorism.”
Vikernes served 21 years in prison for the murder of Mayhem's Euronymous, as well as receiving convictions for burning four churches. He moved to France with his wife and children following his release in 2009.

Louisville’s black metal horde Anagnorisis is preparing for the scorching Summer unleashing of its first new full-length since 2007’s "Overton Trees," as the band's massive sophomore LP "Beyond All Light" nears release. The following press release was issued about the album:
"Thunderously capturing Anagnorisis’ most expansive material to date, 'Beyond All Light' was meticulously recorded by the band and mixed by guitarist Zak Denham and his One by One Studios, and then mastered by Brian Lueken at Decibel Mastering.
"The two-part LP is broken into two segments, each act featuring three massive songs overall encompassing nearly fifty minutes. The band’s already classically-influenced but forward-thinking approach to black metal ventures into new territories, and while skeletal elements of their earlier material shrouds the material, more orchestral and atmospheric elements penetrate the band’s wickedest, blazing attacks ever.
"While comparisons to notable bands like Nachtmystium, Emperor, Summoning and Drudkh can be made, Anagnorisis weave their own unique visions and configurations into their songcraft, creating a wholly engaging, epic atmosphere."
