"Permanence," the debut 12" EP from Denver-based grind/sludge outfit Vermin Womb, is now up for pre-order via Throatruiner Records. The record is due out September 1st on milky clear vinyl.
Formed by Ethan Lee Mc Carthy (guitar/vocals in Primitive Man and formerly of Clinging To The Trees Of A Forest Fire), the band fills the hole left by CTTOAFF's apocalyptic take on grind/death and sludge (same line-up, different drummer) in a darker, more metallic way.
"Permanence" was recorded in April, 2014 by Dave Otero at Flatline Audio (Primitive Man, Cobalt, Cephalic Carnage). You can now stream the full release online in the player below, courtesy of the Throatruiner Records Bandcamp page. More...

"Born Against" follows the 2012 full-length album "The Almighty Propagator of Doom and Despair" (reviewed here).
German speed/thrash act Blood Atonement, featuring Warhammer vocalist Volker "Iron Lung" Frerich and guitarist Marko Hoffmann, has inked a deal with Metal on Metal Records.
The label recommends Blood Atonement to fans of Sodom, Apokalytpic Raids, Scepter, and Outrage (Germany).
Volker "Iron Lung" Frerich stated: "We are very glad to work with Metal on Metal Records, as we fully agree with the attitude of this label. They are focused on the old school way of metal, just like our band Blood Atonement is, too. It feels good to be in the company of bands such as Meliah Rage, Arkham Witch, or Attacker. With the release of our first full-length album 'Carcosa' in 2015, you can expect a killer dose of speed/thrash metal played the brutal old school way!"
The band's debut album "Carcosa" is planned for a mid-2015 release and will consist of re-recorded songs from 2012 demo "Grave of Humanity" as well as a few new tracks. More info on the band can be found at this location.
This week, our Official Podcast experienced something of a change.
As regular co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) is away in Europe, long time writer, Diamond Oz (who is ironically, from and residing in Europe) filled in for him to discuss with Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) some of the biggest stories of late.
They begin by talking about the new Cannibal Corpse material, before discussing the forthcoming Slayer tour of North America, where they will be joined by Exodus and Suidical Tendencies and then wrapping things up with an in depth discussion about the new Mastodon album, "Once More 'Round the Sun."
Check out the podcast at this location and feel free to leave us your feedback!

Metal on Metal Records today announces the signing of Albert Bell's Sacro Sanctus, a new project of this Maltese scene veteran (known from the doom metal institutions Forsaken and Nomad Son).
Albert took over all instruments for the project apart from drums, which were handled by Robert Spiteri, Malta's drumming prodigy from hard rock outfit Fire. Metal On Metal Records comments:
"We are chuffed to be working again with Albert, who's not only an accomplished songwriter and musician, an active supporter of the scene but also a personal friend. Some fans of Forsaken and Nomad Son will be for sure surprised upon hearing his solo project. Not only because it will be the first time they'd hear him sing, but also because of the style: instead of epic or traditional doom, Albert's darker inspirations come to the fore, from early '80s bands mixing black, thrash and doom, to the '90s Mediterranean black metal and more epic and arcane metal.
"Imagine early Torr, Nemesis, Celtic Frost, later Zemial, early Death SS and Paul Chain, Mortuary Drape, Venom, The Black (Italy), later Bathory and Demonaz, all put into one cauldron, and you'll get an idea what the music on 'Deus Volt' sounds like."
Albert Bell added: "I'm delighted to be joining forces with Metal on Metal Records again for this new project. Jowita and Simone leave no stone unturned when it comes to promoting their bands... and moreover, and equally importantly, they are total worshippers of the arcane path of the old school. So I didn't have any doubts about working with them with Sacro Sanctus... in fact, I didn't even think of approaching another record label! haha. All Hail, MOMR!" More...

Cvlt Nation today rolls out new tracks from two U.K. underground doom/sludge/noise bands: Bastard of the Skies and Grimpen Mire. Check out the songs below.
Culled from the new split LP released by Manchester-based Future Noise Recordings, the partial sampling of the dual-band release gives bystanders an ominous forecast of what this monolithic album bears.
Leading off the sonic pounding is the LP's A-side opener "Yarn" by Blackburn's noisiest sludge merchants Bastard of the Skies, while Birmingham's purveyors of filthy doom Grimpen Mire kick you while you're down and drop the B-side lead-off, "The Hollow Wreck." More...
Three years after joining Norwegian black metal progenitors, Mayhem, Teloch put his first notes on wax. Emulating the sinister sounds by previous six-string surgeons Blasphemer and Eurynomous is no small task and Teloch admits his first show was a bit bumpy, but the former Gorgoroth live member found his footing writing the riffs for “Esoteric Warfare.” After getting off "their juicy asses," mainstays Hellhammer, Necrobutcher and Attila (back for third recording) joined Teloch to create another an album built on speed and experimental dissonance. In the following interview, Teloch recalls his inspiration writing the album and the larger cast involved in its creation. Additionally, he discusses making another Nidingr album. More...

Johannes Persson from Cult of Luna has issued the following announcement about his new band Riwen's upcoming releases:
"This is my new band - we are called Riwen and will be releasing a 3 song 10" this fall and hopefully record an album before the end of the year. Musically it is pretty far from Cult of Luna but some of you might like it anyway.
"Last fall I decided to write 14 songs in 14 days in the vein of music that I grew up to and was the influence when I learned to write music about 20 years ago. Think early 90's hardcore like Integrity, Judge, Damnation AD, Battery, Amce and onward in that fashion.
"On the 10" it is me, Fredrik that used to sing in Totalt Jävla Mörker and Christan that is still active in that band but that also has been working as a touring drummer for Cult of Luna for the last couple of years. Since the recording we have added two new members so soon we will be ready to hit the stage.
"It's is simple, it is ugly and it is fast."
Machine Head, which is currently wrapping up work on a forthcoming new album, has issued the following statement about reaching a settlement with former member Adam Duce:
"A $1.8 million dollar litigation suit filed against heavy metal recording artist Machine Head, manager Joseph Huston, record label Nuclear Blast, and current-bassist Jared MacEachern by former-Machine Head bassist Adam Duce was settled yesterday in San Francisco, CA. The terms of the deal will remain confidential but both sides were able to reach a satisfactory agreement.
"All claims in the dispute have been dropped against all parties named including but not limited to the $800,000 dollar suit against the band for breach of fiduciary duty and interference with prospective economic advantage, as well as the bizarre $1,000,000 dollar defamation suit against singer / guitarist Robb Flynn regarding a blog the guitarist posted.
"It was mediated by Gail Migdal Title, with the litigation team for Machine Head handled by Kari Keidser, Dawn Coulson and Randall Rich of Epps & Coulson, along with long-time Machine Head entertainment lawyer Scott Harrington."
Machine Head will hit the road in the U.S. July 8th with Anti Mortem on the Killers & Kings tour, and will release an as-yet untitled 8th album (the first with new-bassist Jared MacEachern) in November.
Avulsed has announced a "Carnivoracity" 20th anniversary re-issue on CD / 12"LP via Xtreem Music. The label comments:
"Originally recorded in December 1993, the three studio songs (17 min.) were first released as a 7" EP in June 1994 by German label M.M.I. Records, making of this, the very first release of a Spanish extreme metal band by a foreign label and quickly becoming a collectable item. One year later, in 1995, this EP was re-issued on CD format by Repulse Records including 9 live bonus tracks from a memorable show of the band containing rare tracks, demo songs and a couple of covers of Demigod & Brujeria.
"This 'Carnivoracity' release has become some sort of a cult recording through the years showing the early days of Avulsed, that has kept this pure and genuine brand of Death Metal until today, an spirit and essence that makes this band one of the most authentic and respected European death metal forces, always keeping themselves away from commercial records labels. "Six tracks of punishing hateful black metal in the old school way, featuring Necrodemius Hammerhorde (Shadows In The Crypt, ex-Crucifier, ex-Invasive Command) and Cazz 'The Black Lourde Of Crucifixion' Grant (Crucifier, ex-Grand Belial's Key).

Iceland's Skalmold has issued this statement about bringing on a session drummer for upcoming shows:
"Over the last few months Jón Geir has been having problems with his shoulder. Despite him doing everything possible to recover, things have only gotten worse and drastic measures need to be taken. He has to undergo a surgery and that has to happen asap since we don’t want to risk anything, his future as the unique drummer that he is and thereby the future of Skálmöld. Nope, this has to happen now and it is obvious that Jón Geir is gonna need weeks or even months to heal afterwards.
"We do have some commitments in the near future. Never in a million years would we back away from a them so it is quite clear that we do need a stand in for Jón Geir. When this came up there was no question in our minds who to call and all for the better the man was free and willing to bail us out. So without further adieu… More...
