One week ahead of its looming release date next Tuesday, July 8th you can hear all of "Celestite," the new instrumental LP from Olympia, Washington's Wolves In The Throne Room. Listen to the tracks at NYTimes.com here.
"Celestite" is a fully synth-composed companion to the 2011-released "Celestial Lineage" LP, and is a far cry from the blackened maelstrom Wolves In The Throne Room typically delivers. Produced by Randall Dunn, the instrumental passages on "Celestite" reflect the tracks of its predecessor in a whole new light, with more than forty-five minutes of rich, otherworldly, synthesizer-constructed works which more resemble a sci-fi/horror soundtrack or meditative musical experience.
You can also see Wolves In The Throne Room live on these dates:

Holy Tongues is comprised of three members of the late Ruiner, the Baltimore band that made a name in the '00s via two LPs on Bridge 9 Records, the latter produced by J. Robbins (Modern Life Is War, Coliseum), and via tours with the likes of Strike Anywhere and Pulling Teeth.
"Weak People" was produced by Kevin Bernsten (Full of Hell, Magrudergrind) and mastered by James Plotkin (Isis, Earth). The track listing is as follows:
1. Pale Light
4. Bright Light
5. Small Fires

While the public is still reeling from the barrage of transmissions from ghastly Creepsylvanian outfit Ghoul over recent months, the band has now announced a vinyl manifestation of debut album, "We Came For The Dead!!!"
Initially released in 2002, "We Came For The Dead!!!" delivers a slick, punk-infused style of American goregrind from an unidentified tomb in the depths of Creepsylvania and features the album-closing rendition of Megadeth's "Skull Beneath The Skin."
Tankcrimes is currently embalming the cadaver of "We Came For The Dead!!!" for its public service on September 9th, where the wax edition of the more than thirty-three minute release will be reissued on three disgusting colors of vinyl.
This version will be available in the "More Blood" red edition in a run of 666, the ultra-limited "Torch" pressing in a tri-color yellow/orange/bone scheme, and the Die Hard edition, which bears a "Blood Spill" red inside clear vinyl, foil stamped jacket, flexi postcard and bonus track "We Are Creepsylvanians" by Igvar Shmeltzy and the Turnips. Pre-orders are available right here. More...
Stereogum is now hosting a stream of Midwestern metal cult Wolvhammer's third monstrous full-length album, "Clawing Into Black Sun," as the album nears release in just one week via Profound Lore Records. You can hear the full album in the SoundCloud player below.
"Clawing Into Black Sun" will be in stores next Tuesday, July 8th and Profound Lore Records comments:
"Wolvhammer's amalgamation of black metal and death rock surges with self-infliction, abuse, regret, and debauchery, Uniting members of Shaidar Logoth, Abigail Williams, Chrome Waves, Doomsday and other acts. Recorded by Dan Jensen at Hideaway Studio in Minneapolis, the bruising eight songs obviously displaying how the band's songwriting and delivery skills have developed since previous releases." More...
After releasing a lyric video for the track, Overkill has now debuted an all new music video for the "Armorist" single. Check it out below courtesy of Noisey.Vice.com.
Directed by long time collaborator Kevin J. Custer, the video depicts the raw power that emulates from the bands viscous live show. "We had a head banging riot working with Kevin Custer, he has an eye for the performance and the fast editing hand. Just what the doctor ordered for a face-melting, thrash-a-thon," says frontman Bobby Blitz.
This is the third time Custer has directed the band's visual element. Prior to "Armorist" he was tapped for "Bring Me The Night," from "Ironbound" in 2010 and "Electric Rattlesnake" from "The Electric Age" in 2012.
Blitz continues, "I was quite blown away with his use of natural light in Armorist, as if he let the sun in through the windows, then controlled how it was used. Horns up Kids, here comes the Overkill/Custer, Armorist!"
Bay Area aliencore outfit Rings of Saturn will unleash a forthcoming new full-length this October 14th via Unique Leader Records.
Titled "Lugal Ki En," the twelve-track offering was produced by Brette Ciamarra at Studio 344 (Kamikabe, Those Who Fear, Trophies et al) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and features the drum prowess of Black Tongue/Infant Annihilator basher Aaron Kitcher, guest solo work by Day Of Reckoning guitarist Rusty Cooley, and custom artwork by Mark Cooper of Mind Rape Art, who crafted the band’s seminal "Dingir" cover.
Comments guitarist Lucas Mann of the album concept, “The concept of the album in a nutshell is that long after the Aliens conquer humanity, they evolve to a point where they transcend space, time and reality to take their conquest into the realm of the gods where they wage war on angels and demons. The album title Lugal Ki En translates from ancient Sumerian cuneiform to mean ‘King Of The Earthlings, Lord Of The Cosmic World.’ The Sumerian cuneiform is visible behind the English pronunciation of the album title.”
The track listing will be as follows:
1. Senseless Massacre
2. Desolate Paradise
3. Lalassu Xul
4. Infused (Feat. Rusty Cooley)
5. Fractal Intake
6. Natural Selection
8. Godless Times
9. Unsympathetic Intellect
11. The Heavens Have Fallen
12. No Pity For A Coward (Suicide Silence cover) More...
This July, a colossal collaborative concert, previously privy only to those who were fortunate enough to have helped fill a Netherlandic concert hall multiple moons ago, will be unleashed in audio form as "Earthless Meets Heavy Blanket In A Dutch Haze."
The recording will see a July 8th release date via Outer Battery Records / Roadburn Records. Today, in advance of the album's release, Noisey premieres the album in full with the forewarning, "Get ready to cry because you will never play this well."
Check it out in the player provided below. The following press release was also issued:
"Back-story: an impromptu heavy psych JAM between J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr, Sweet Apple, and one of both Rolling Stone and Spin's 'Greatest Guitarists of All Time') and California space rock masters Earthless at the 2009 SXSW Festival left an onlooking crowd stunned and breathless.
"When word of the performance spread, the world-renowned musicians were asked to play the main stage of Holland's annual international rock festival, Roadburn, to attempt to recreate the magic that revved-up an Austin audience at what was thought to be a one-time event.
"Fast forward to the 2012 installment of the fantastic fest; when Earthless' guitarist Isaiah Mitchell had to back out at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstance, six-string shredder Graham Clise from J Mascis' loud, psychedelic project Heavy Blanket (and who also plays with Mascis in Witch and in the bitchin' Bay Area band Lecherous Gaze) stepped in on second guitar. Backed by the best rhythm section in today's adventurous rock world -- Mario Rubalcaba and Mike Eginton from Earthless -- the quartet stormed the stage for what would become an incredible one-time happening, leading to almost a full hour of some of the most mind-bending heavy psych imaginable.
"The epic jam session gave birth to shredding psychedelia and hard rock blues underpinned by the muscular rhythmic sensibilities of kraut-rock and the unbridled energy of 70's guitar rock. The formidable foundation laid by drummer Rubalcaba became a jumping off point for Mascis, Clise and Eighton to explore their inner cosmoi for consciousness-expanding riffs and music-induced psychedelic experiences." Southern California’s Atreyu has now officially risen from a self-imposed hiatus started back in 2011.
The reunited lineup, featuring vocalist Alex Varkatzas, drummer Brandon Saller, guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel and bassist Marc Mcknight, will return to the stage for the first time in three years for an exclusive mainstage performance at Aftershock 2014 festival on September 14th in Sacramento, CA.
“The time has come,” says drummer Brandon Saller. “We have been spending the last few months planning this moment. Writing new music and thinking about the future while also reflecting on the past. We all came to the conclusion that it was the right time. Our history is too powerful to ignore forever. Our fans have given us too much. The void of Atreyu, in the world and within ourselves, had existed for long enough. We are happy to announce that after almost 4 years, the beast has risen!"
“To say we are looking forward to Playing this years Aftershock Festival is an understatement,” adds frontman Alex Varkatzas. “It's been 3+yrs since we have rocked the stage as brothers, and to be playing with all these high caliber bands, in the state that we call home, is truly awesome.”
As many fans have already noticed, 2014 also marks the 10 year anniversary of the band’s breakthrough album, "The Curse." Could there be more shows announced this year? Could there be new music to be released? Stay tuned as the story of Atreyu is far from over….

Still smoldering from the Blood Dawn 3 tour, War Master has oiled the death machine and set its course for the American West.
Starting on Independence Day, the band plays Austin at the Mohawk Club as part of American Icon Records' expo featuring Pentagram. From there the war machine rolls throughout the West with four of the nine dates spent in California.
On the 13th of July, War Master joins Terrorizer, Nausea, Phobia, Wehrmacht and several more bands as part of Los Angeles Grindcore Fest. Check below for a complete list of tour dates. War Master's split with Unholy Grave will also exclusively be available for sale on this tour.
The idea for the split dates back to pre-War Master days, when Insect Warfare toured with the Japanese grinders. War Master met Travis Bonner at a Morbid Angel show in Austin during in December 2013. Bonner recorded the two tracks "Mass Cremation" and "Sadistic Force" during one of the coldest days in the early winter of 2014. Both tracks relate a rawer production than previous recordings and emphasize the jolting riffs found on the first couple of Entombed and Grave albums. The Unholy Grave side includes five tracks of coarse-toned grindcore. Each track relates raw-boned riffs, hemorrhaging voices and shuddering blast beats.

Toronto, ON's fun loving, beer drinking progressive folk metal band Protokult is proud to share with fans the artwork and the track listing for upcoming album "No Beer In Heaven."
The album is set for official release on August 8th, 2014 to follow the 2011 EP "Marzena" and 2009 debut "Ancestral Anthems." Protokult's Martin Drozd comments:
"We are anxious and excited to finally unleash the first Protokult full-length album with our current and talented lineup. Expect nothing short of pure, heathen prog-folk with a healthy traditional metal dosage in the mix. Our first single, Get Me A Beer will be released early this July and expect the official video shortly thereafter! The video follows a story line which can be best described as 'Spinal Tap meets folk-metal' and captures the band in an unpleasant, humorous yet all-too-realistic situation in which artists may find themselves in (we certainly have!)"
In additional news, Protokult will be performing a Toronto CD release show on July 26th for hometown fans at Bovine Sex Club with support from locals Primalfrost, Tsargrad, and Montreal's Karkaos.
"No Beer In Heaven" was recorded at Spectre Sound Studios and will be released August 8th, 2014. The album's track listing is as follows:
1. Get Me A Beer! (3:04)
2. Heaven Cast Me Out (4:04)
3. My Father’s Word (5:49)
4. Flight of The Winged Hussar (5:52)
5. Sol Intention (4:39)

Swedish death metal trio Stench, featuring the members of Tribulation, is currently working on the follow-up to the 2010 debut album, "In Putrescence."
The band entered Necromorbus Studio (Watain, Portrait) in Stockholm this May and founding member Jonathan Hulten commented: "The material has been in the making since 2010, and, along with the artwork, has accumulated enough power to swing your senses to the sky."
The album is slated for an autumn 2014 release via Agonia Records. The doors to the band's yet-untitled full-length were opened by a self-titled 7" EP, released earlier this year in a black and limited to 100 copies blue vinyl, and featuring three new songs.
For more info on Stench, head over to the death metal band's Facebook profile here.
U.K. death metal outfit Unfathomable Ruination will soon be performing a very different kind of set: one inside a box with limited oxygen! The Independent reported on the upcoming stunt:
Death metal band Unfathomable Ruination are to perform in an airtight, soundproofed box outside the Gherkin in London this week.
Visible but inaudible to the public, the band's set will form an art installation by Portuguese artist João Onofre called 'Box Sized DIE', which is part of new exhibition Sculpture in the City.
Unfathomable Ruination also commented via Facebook about the article from The Independent: "According to the medical professionals who read The Independent, we're all going to die... Challenge Accepted." More...
The American death metal icons in Cannibal Corpse are pleased to announce the release of their thirteenth full-length, "A Skeletal Domain."
With lucky number 13 the band has switched gears, opting to work with producer Mark Lewis (The Black Dahlia Murder, DevilDriver) at Audio Hammer Studios, after having tracked the previous three outings (Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture) with Erik Rutan.
Boasting twelve-ominous tracks in forty-four spine-fraying minutes, the result is a massive, belligerent, and deliberate aural attack that finds the band at their peak of its notoriously hyper kinetic, meticulously executed brutality.
"At the end of the day, we're still making a death metal record, no matter where it's being recorded," relays bassist Alex Webster. Mark Lewis offered a slightly different, modern recording approach, but the band stressed that it could not be more pleased with previous albums with Rutan, and the door is most definitely open to work with him again in the future. Changing producers is something the band has historically done after every few albums, if only to not get too comfortable.
"Consistency is often confused with repetition. We are established with what we do as a band, and we could relax and not push ourselves, but we try to push the envelope. That's what makes this exciting," adds Webster. "Anyone who really listens to this album with an open mind will hear that it's not same-old same-old."
Mark Lewis would concur with Webster's analysis and even goes a step further by claiming that "there are moments on this record that have never happened in musical history." More...

Back in March, Opeth announced a 25th anniversary coffee table book was in the works, and now the band has checked in with the following update about the release:
"Rocket88 and Opeth are still working on it – and it's looking damned good! We have conducted new and exclusive interviews with everyone, and lots of rare and previously unseen images have been found for inclusion, so the book is shaping up to be something very special.
"However, in our bid to be as definitive as possible and that the book be the ultimate document, the research and interviews are ongoing – meaning that it will now be published at the beginning of 2015 rather than this year.
"We will keep you posted of all developments and, rest assured, it'll be worth the wait!"

Fields of the Nephilim has been elusive on the live scene during the last year with only a few exclusive appearances. The band has been spending the time creating, writing, and recording new material, and now Fields Of The Nephilim has checked in with the following update:
"Now is the time for me to let go and release some new Nephilim tracks which have been constrained to the studio for some time.
"Trying to concentrate the work and thoughts down to a simple single objective is always a difficult practice but that's the nature of the beast. Easy to find the beginning but always hard trying to reach the end.
"I'll always close the door behind me to begin but it then becomes hard to find my way out when spending so much time in the dark.
"We are finally at the stage of recording and compiling the most important elements created and gathered."
Further details will be forthcoming in the near future.

Living Colour, which was previously featured in our Sunday Old School column, today announces new album "Shade" and a tour set to kick off September 18th at The Opera House in Toronto, Canada.
The group — vocalist Corey Glover, guitarist Vernon Reid, bassist Doug Wimbish and drummer Will Calhoun — is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on "Shade," which will be produced by Andre Betts and mixed by Ron Saint Germain.
Due out in the Fall, "Shade" follows 2009's "The Chair In The Doorway" and is Living Colour's sixth studio album.
"'Shade' is the sound of a band coming to terms with its shadows and light," says Reid. "From the blue pulpit of Robert Johnson to the mean red streets of Brooklyn to the golden lure of Hollywood, 'Shade' is the next chapter of a unique American journey."
Pharaoh - a new project featuring Shawn O'Brien from Above This - will be releasing a self-titled album later this year via Above Records. The band has released a teaser trailer online for the release, which can be heard below.
