Sharks Dig Darkest Hour

The filming of Discovery Channel's Shark Week show "Bride of Jaws" shows that Great White sharks are attracted to the low frequencies of heavy metal. Hoping to attract a sixteen-foot shark known as "Joan," the crew plays a track from Darkest Hour. It doesn't bring in the big fish they were looking for but it does lure two other great whites, including twelve and fourteen footers. The low frequencies of heavy metal apparently resemble struggling fish to sharks. More...

Metal Allegiance Posts Studio Video

"Heavy metal is more than a genre, more than an attitude and certainly more than whatever cheap epithets are dismissively thrown at it by clueless critics. At its best, metal is a lifestyle, a community, a tribe uniting people across cultural, economic and philosophical divides with the primal pulse of bombastic and majestic expression.

"Never before has one entity encapsulated so many components of the heavy metal community’s continued vibrancy and dedication to the lifestyle than the collective fittingly called Metal Allegiance." More...

Manners Calls It Quits

Connecticut based outfit Manners has issued the following announcement online about deciding to call it a day:

"Sooner or later all good things must come to an end. After 5 years of doing this, we’ve decided to stop doing Manners. When we started, most of us were still in our teens, we had never toured, some of us had never played shows, and we never thought it was going to go as far as it did.

"A lot has changed since then, but we always said we would stop doing it the second our hearts weren’t in it and we stopped having fun, and we stayed true to that promise.

"It was never about anything more than just having fun and making friends, and we’re so lucky we were able to meet so many amazing people and see so many amazing places. Thanks for the last 5 years everyone, truly. Final show info to follow." More...

Ketzer Signs With Metal Blade

Metal Blade Records is proud to announce the addition of Ketzer to its ranks. Ketzer (German for "heretic") is an extreme metal outfit hailing from Cologne, Germany and is ready to set the world afire with this just recently signed pact (in blood).

The band comments: "In the last few years, working on new songs has been our journey, and it has been an intense one. Musically and conceptually we put everything back to zero. We found an element that gives our music something primal, something natural. It is the deep connection between all of us through making music together. It feels like sharing a fleshless body.

"Far back in time, dancing to drumbeats around a fire, entangled in trance, it was all about the magic of one moment. We chase those moments and hope to share them with people all over the world.

"Metal Blade, as a label that has evolved constantly in its history without ever forgetting their groundbreaking beginnings, will give us the opportunity to reach everyone of you out there. There are many exciting things about to come along our way in the future and we are glad and grateful for being able to take this journey together with Metal Blade from this day on." More...

Tesseract Reveals New Album Details

TesseracT has announced an all new LP titled "Polaris" and due out September 18th, 2015 via the band's U.K. label home Kscope and a partnership with eOne Music in North America.

"TesseracT has been through a roller coaster of a ride since our first EP," says the band. "We seemed to always have been filling the holes in our ship's hull to stop this ship from sinking, as we raced around the world time and time again."

"Polaris" will follow the "Altered State" LP (reviewed here) that was released in 2013. The new album will be the band’s third studio album and first for Kscope and eOne, and the real question of course, is whether this one will feature any naughty tentacle videos.

The band comments: "'Polaris' is a different scenario. The first chance for us as a group to stop and take stock of what we are right now, to explore a TesseracT of melody, dynamics, and singular focus. For the first time, too, we feel free from the bounds of genre specific expectations."

The "Polaris" track listing is:

1. Dystopia
2. Hexes
3. Survival
4. Tourniquet
5. Utopia
