Oddland Streaming "Hidden"

Finland's inventive progressive metal quartet Oddland has issued the first official single from upcoming second album, "Origin." The follow-up to 2012 debut "The Treachery Of Senses," the impending "Origin" album will see release in early September through the band's new label home Sensory Records.

As an early preview of the band's latest works, the record's fifth track "Hidden" comes forth through an animated cover art video - check it out below.

Oddland offers of the track: "This song is about self-deprecation and a hidden strength and talent, that cannot truly thrive until the person sees and believes it himself. Twilight Force Posts "Battle Of Arcane Might"

Swedish adventure metal band Twilight Force will release upcoming ridiculous opus, "Heroes Of Mighty Magic," on August 26th through Nuclear Blast.

Now the time has finally come for the band to present the first single: check out opening track "Battle Of Arcane Might" in the form of a new lyric video below. The band comments:

"Raise your steel! As the secret prophecies foretold, here is the first glimpse into the magic future! 'Battle Of Arcane Might' serves as a gateway from our past into the new world of 'Heroes Of Mighty Magic.' It bridges the tonal chasm between what has been, and what is to come. It is a fast paced adventure revolving around a seemingly futile battle between good and evil. When all hope seems lost, the Mages of Arcane Might hearken the call and unleash the fury of magic thunder upon the battlefield. Brace and immerse yourselves to learn the fate of the mortal realms!"

In other news, the band can proudly announce the guest bards on this forthcoming record. Fabio Lione from Rhapsody Of Fire joins on "There And Back Again" while Joakim Brodén from Sabaton appears on the title track, "Heroes Of Mighty Magic." More...

Metal Allegiance Announces Tribute EP

Metal Allegiance just announced the release of a special EP, entitled "Fallen Heroes," on August 12th, 2016. The band united to pay homage to the 3 legends - Lemmy Kilmister, David Bowie, and Glenn Frey - who impacted not just their lives but the whole world as well.

"The end of 2015 and most of 2016 has been a brutal year with many of our heroes passing," comments Mark Menghi. "When Portnoy called me in January to alert me that Glenn Frey had passed, I literally broke down. That night after having a few Tequila Sunrises in Glenn's honor, a lightbulb went off... We're going to record a few tunes to honor our fallen heroes. I called back Mike that evening and asked him what he thought and the next day we were in the studio recording. By weeks end, all guitars, drums and bass were complete. I can't begin to explain the influence that Glenn Frey, Lemmy, and David Bowie had on me. Each of their music has helped me immensely during some real dark periods of my life and not to mention their influence on me as a musician and songwriter. Lemmy is God, Glenn is King and David is the Architect."

Alex Skolnick comments: "These brilliant artists have an extensive catalogue that is sometimes on the softer side (with the exception of Motorhead, of course). So when it came to The Eagles & Bowie, we specifically chose tunes of theirs that are riff-based and translatable to high energy arrangements. For Lemmy, we immediately crossed out 'Ace Of Spades' (great tune but the last thing the world needs is yet another cover version) and chose 'Iron Fist,' which we already had a good handle on from playing live and to us is every bit as much a signature Motorhead tune."

"I'm really excited to be a part of the 'Fallen Heroes' EP," comments Alissa White-Gluz. "I think we have all felt the weight of losing so many great musicians this year. I think these songs are a cool way to pay tribute to a few people who contributed so much to the world of music and showcase a different side of ourselves." More...

Saille Recruits New Guitarist

Belgian symphonic black metal group Saille just checked in with this update about a change in guitarist:

"Much to our regrets, our guitarist Jonathan is leaving Saille. Surely we're sad about this.... No spectacular story behind this, no fights or disagreements: After years of faithful service to Saille, Jonathan is longing to explore other horizons with his musical skills. Nothing more, nothing less and of course we will keep an eye on his future endeavours.

"As a logic result of our previous announcement, we have to introduce you to our new guitarist. We welcome Collin Boone in our midst, a young trooper with a history in Asatru and Herfst. We are thrilled to have this highly talented guy in the band and besides that, we found out he knows how to party, to make us laugh and to top it off, he likes a beer or two. He will share the stage with us for the first time at Summer Breeze!"

If you love symphonic black metal but haven't heard Saille yet, do yourself a favor and check out this criminally unknown band. The track "Carcosa" even made the heavy metal listening playlist for my sci-fi horror novella "Empty." More...

Sunday Old School: Fantômas

If there's one term in music guaranteed to raise eyebrows, and often nothing else, it's "supergroup." Arguably more often than not, the results don't quite go as hoped and for every Cream there's a Contraband and Ov Hell. There will, however, always be musicians that draw people to their projects no matter who they're working with and if ever there was a vocalist who was able to do this, it's Faith No More's charismatic frontman, Mike Patton. Throw in members of other esteemed bands such as Slayer and the Melvins and surely the results are going to be something special, which is exactly what happened in 1998 when Patton put together a new project as Faith No More were coming to the end of their first run, a project named Fantômas.

Fantômas, which was named after a French supervillain and one of the country's most popular literary figures, began initially as a series of avant-garde songs Mike Patton had penned on his own, in the hopes of putting together a supergroup of his own. He sent the songs out to his Mr. Bungle bandmate Trevor Dunn, as well as Melvins guitarist Buzz Osborne and Sepultura drummer Igor Cavalera. Cavalera was the only musician to decline his invite to the group, though he did suggest that the drum stool should be occupied by another highly respected metal drummer, Dave Lombardo, who at the time was busy with Grip Inc., having left Slayer for the second time six years previously.
