Bhavachakra Signs With Translation Loss

Translation Loss has announced the signing of the ambitious death/black metal band, Bhavachakra. The Floridian quartet will release an eponymous album via Translation Loss on September 23rd later this year.

The word "Bhavachakra" itself coming from eastern theology; the name is given to the depiction of a large demon holding a wheel, which represents each of the different realms of rebirth one may find themselves in, depending on their karma in the cycle of life. It is these very concepts and lyrical themes the band employs on this crushing debut full-length.

Check out the new track "Kali Yuga" below. Bhavachakra founder Kenneth Redar comments on the premiere:

"Kali Yuga is the name given to the fourth and final epoch in the procession of epochs that must reach their conclusion before the Universe is born again and starts over anew. Kali Yuga is the age of vice. The age of materialism, chaos and pain. The darkest of the four ages and the one we currently find ourselves living in. Kali Yuga, the last song on the album, is about an awareness of existing in this age and coming together as a collective organism to move beyond material and interpersonal strife." More...

Interview

Tides Of Sulfur Casts An "Extinction Curse"

Utterly misanthropic and aggressively negative blackened death metal cult Tides Of Sulfur just released new album "Extinction Curse" earlier this month via Black Bow Records.

We had the distinct pleasure of premiering a track from the album ahead of release, and now that the disc is out, we're diving into a full interview with vocalist / bassist Chris Bull (or as he calls it, the band's "throat and low end assaulter").

xFiruath: I'm a newcomer to Tides Of Sulfur. Can you give me a rundown of how the band got together and what the group had done prior to the recording of “Extinction Curse?”

Chris: Well Ant and I have played in several bands since we were teenagers. All those bands got to a stage where we had enough material to gig and then things just fell apart due to conflicts in terms of musical direction etc. Depression kind of stopped me from wanting to share my musical side with the public for a while but we carried on jamming in each others living rooms just for the love of it. In 2012 we knew we wanted to get out there and play.

I won't go into the story of our former drummer but if you listen to the 2012 demo you'll hear for yourself how he didn't fit the bill. We met Tom through our local doom/sludge scene; he was playing in a band called H O M O H (who were excellent by the way) and knew he was exceptional, not just behind the kit but as a human being so we immediately knew we'd found the missing piece.

We recorded and self released an EP thematically based on the 1st world war and called it "Ypres." We still have some copies of it on cassette but it's available on our Bandcamp page. Other than that, there's the spilt tape/CD we released with another criminally underrated and unknown band called The Air Turned To Acid and our friend Jeff of Against All Odds Productions released a compilation tape of pretty much everything we had released, including some digital only tracks and 2 previously unreleased tracks that we recorded in our practice room. Got all that?

xFiruath: I've been listening to the album a bit and noticed that huge change in tone between ending of “Eternal Bleeding” and beginning segment in “...Of Suffering and Grief.” It seems like metal is somewhat unique in the regard, having the ability to span completely different sounds right next to each other. Are you guys aiming to hit a specific sub-genre, and if not how do you go about putting together these songs that cross different styles? More...

Lesbian Reveals New Album Details

Seattle, WA doom metal band Lesbian will release new album "Hallucinogenesis" on August 26th via Translation Loss Records.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Randall Dunn at Seattle's Avast! Recording Company, the record features four towering tracks of the group's "Pre-Historic Phantasy Thrash" and is the follow-up to 2013 LP, "Forestelevision."|

"'Hallucinogenesis' tells a fantastical story of a spore-filled asteroid that collides with earth and forever alters its history and the course of consciousness," said the band of the album's concept. "The impact of this fungal explosion signals a new dawn of creation called Pyramidal Existinctualism. As meteorites are pulled towards the sun, they collide, levitate, circulate, then populate. One of the few survivors of this catastrophe is the Kosmoceratops. It’s time to bow to the new lord of this world."

In keeping with the record's surreal story line, cover artwork was designed by distinguished heavy metal artist Dan Seagrave (Morbid Angel, Entombed). The album's track listing is:

1.) Pyramidal Existinctualism
2.) Labrea Borealis
3.) Kosmoceratops
4.) Aqualibrium More...

Korpse just released a new video for the "Unethical" track, which can be seen below, and the group also comments:

"We proudly present you our new lyric video! While writing our 2nd album, we decided to write actual lyrics for one of our songs, since we came across one of the most savage events in human history: The Liberian Civil Wars.

"A civil war where rebel generals recruited child soldiers to slaughter and rape anyone on their path, after preparing themselves by ripping out an innocent child's heart alive and eat it.

"Our album artwork was our interpretation of these events, but this video contains REAL footage of this bloodsoaked civil war. Therefore: WARNING! This video contains EXTREMELY GRAPHIC CONTENT!"

Will adds: "The music drew from many new and old influences, including Cynic, Tool, Opeth and Meshuggah. The lyrical content comes in the form of a first person story, interweaving Judeo-Christian mythology and symbolism with a story of personal growth and triumph, to create a unique look at the human condition, and an even more unique death metal experience."

In regards the cover art, Peplinski comments: "The album art by Guang is the perfect piece to represent this tale of darkness and light. He combined deities from various religions into a massive horror, with one lone adventurer heading into the darkness within, as we all must do." More...

Broken Hope Posts Guitar Video

Broken Hope guitarist Jeremy Wagner just premiered a playthrough video featuring the Nosferatu limited edition ESP/LTD he received from the one and only Kirk Von Hammett of Metallica. Watch Jeremy’s metal-and-horror-tinged clip below. Wagner also comments:

"I have a deep passion for ESP guitars. I've been playing ESP for 29 years--on every Broken Hope album and on every worldwide stage I've ever played in my career. I also have a deep passion for horror movies and horror memorabilia. And like me, my pal, Kirk Hammett, is an ESP player and ‘horror kid’ of the highest order!

"And to that end, Kirk’s combined both horror and guitars into a 'Nosferatu' limited edition ESP/LTD that he whipped up in his laboratory. Between the vintage Nosferatu ‘Count Orlock’ movie artwork down to the stellar features that make up the specs of this instrument, this a VERY special guitar that is badass through and through—and I should know, because I own one—and it plays amazing and also gives me the CREEPS—and that's a good thing!"

Broken Hope is currently in the studio recording a 7th album and follow-up to "Omen of Disease." Stay tuned for more info. More...

Départe Posts New Song "Vessel"

Australian progressive blackened metal outfit Départe premieres a new song entitled "Vessel", taken from the band's upcoming new album "Failure, Subside", which will be out in stores October 14 via Season of Mist.

Comments frontman Sam Dishington: "Our new track ‘Vessel’ is a reaction to deeply entrenched feelings of isolation and futility. It deals with the despair of being stranded in that place, that void, and even still finding peace, stillness, and victory, drawing you out into the light. From a musical standpoint, ‘Vessel’ is quite broad, touching on many of the elements you can expect to hear throughout the rest of the album. Dark, crushing and dissonant, yet in the same breath powerful and emotive." More...

Lacuna Coil Premieres Music Video For "Delirium"

Lacuna Coil today premieres an official music video for the title track to the band's new album "Delirium".

Says vocalist Cristina Scabbia of the clip: “We filmed our parts for this video in one evening while we were on the US tour this past May. We used a Go-Pro against a black backdrop and we wanted something that would be purposely rough, something that could remind some weird lost videos found after years and years.

"The whole video edited together with the parts filmed by the director with an actress turned out as a very strange sort of a trip, where a girl tries to tight up memories and details together to try to find her sanity back, somehow. I really like some of the scenes as they reminded me some kind of Korean horror movies vibe and it is totally fitting the ‘Delirium‘ vibe and concept. It also leaves a lot to the imagination, so thanks for checking it out and enjoy."
