Chicago Open Air Day Two

I knew going into Saturday that it'd be in the most incongruous day of the festival since Disturbed were supported on their own tour by a number of hard rock acts which made the overall festival feel a bit disjointed. The heaviest acts on the tour were playing on the second stage while the radio rock acts tackled the main stage. The best way to describe it would be ADHD comorbid with DID.

One of the best parts of Chicago Open Air is that it's actually a place where I could wear arctic camo shorts and not look get weird looks from people. Granted, there are probably some other places. For instance, if I was ever tempted to go hunting in the jungles of Alaska or the frozen tundra of Florida, I'd break them out again. But for the most part, I was never going to wear them anywhere else. More...

Crucified Mortals Announces New Album

Hells Headbangers has set October 28th as the international release date for Crucified Mortals' second album, "Psalms of the Dead Choir."

One of the best kept secrets of the Cleveland metal scene, Crucified Mortals has been quietly but prolifically perfecting its craft since 2001. Under the steely resolve of founder/mastermind Reaper, a handful of demos and splits culminated in Crucified Mortals' debut, self-titled album. As much as "Crucified Mortals" was a highlight for the band, a decade after its formation, it will now be eclipsed by "Psalms of the Dead Choir."

A statement from Reaper reads: "Starting with darker imagery - for this genre - we put a lot of focus on doing unique and/or fresh ideas with 'Psalms of the Dead Choir,' from different guitar amps on virtually every song, numerous vocal effects to establish a different surrounding, to deeper meanings behind otherwise straightforward lyrics. There's a lot to analyze for the in-depth listener, but it is straightforward and ripping for those looking to jam out."

Zornheym Releasing New Single

Swedish extreme symphonic metallers Zornheym have inked a deal with the Dutch label Non Serviam Records. New single "The Opposed" will be released on the 19th of August through all digital platforms.

The band was born in Stockholm through the efforts of multi-instrumental mastermind and songwriter Zorn. After parting ways with his former band Dark Funeral, he was determined to shake up the traditional metal meets symphony approach with his new band Zornheym.

Inspiration drawn from icons such as Dissection, Dimmu Borgir, and King Diamond is paired with real string orchestration and a powerful full choir. Every song on the debut album will have a visual accompaniment in the form of short graphic stories with further exploration of the themes.

The line-up is completed by Facebreaker's Bendler on vocals, guitarist and musical arranger Scucca, and Diabolical drummer Angst. The debut album was recorded at Wing Studios by Sverker Widgren, renowned veteran of sound engineering on the Scandinavian extreme metal scene (October Tide, Demonical, IXXI, Diabolical). Pseudo/Sentai Posts New Music Video

Manga-themed metal band Pseudo/Sentai just released a new music video for "Crown of the Crow King," a track taken from recently-released album "Enter the Sentai."

The video is a gore filled homage to old-school horror films and contains footage from the cult classic film "The Toxic Retards." The band commented:

"The song itself is about a gladiator tournament for rule over a kingdom of crows. The clips in the video are from a movie called 'The Toxic Retards.' The director, Carl J. Sukenick, filmed it in/around his apartment along with potentially HUNDREDS of other short films over a period of 35 years. Matt Desiderio did a hell of a job editing a few dusty, bug corpse-filled VHS tapes into an avant-horror flick that eventually breaks the fourth wall to unveil insight into schizophrenia." More...

Marilyn Manson Behaving Erratically At Shows

Oh boy, things have apparently not been going awesome on Marliyn Manson's current tour with Slipknot.

By all accounts he's been unsteady on his feet and offering pretty half-assed performances while rambling incoherently night after night.

Several videos of the most odd instances of Manson's behavior have come online, including a few below where he slurs words before falling off the stage, rants about nonsense, yells at stage techs during songs, and just all around has a hard time staying upright.

Corey Taylor meanwhile has had the energy to smack phones out of hands even with a broken neck... Anybody been to any of these shows and seen anything like this going on?

Anciients Announces New Album

Vancouver's Anciients today unveils details surrounding forthcoming new album "Voice of the Void," which will be released on October 14th worldwide. "Voice of the Void" was recorded by Jesse Gander and first new track "Following The Voice" can be heard below, courtesy of Blabbermouth.

Regarding the new track, Anciient comments: "Following the Voice" is about struggles with inner demons that many people face. Knowing what the right thing to do is, but not listening to your conscience and choosing the path that is best for yourself but harms others in the process. It is about following the evil voice in your head as opposed to the voice of reason.

"The new Anciients record is titled 'Voice of the Void' and somewhat of a step in a new direction lyrically and musically. I think it still has the sound we developed on 'Heart of Oak' but the riffs are a lot heavier and the lyrics are far more cynical and dark. With all of the chaos happening on this planet it seems as though things will get worse before they get better, and that kind of embodies the theme of this album as a whole." More...

"It continues the story that began on the first album 'The Key' with the near death experience of the lead character known as 'H' and his subsequent recovery of the missing encryption key. With the Key finally in his possession, 'H' has everything he needs to finally launch his long awaited project called 'The New Reality.' Or does he..."

Tate continued, "I'm excited for people to hear and experience 'Resurrection' because I think it answers some of the questions that were posed in the first album, 'The Key.' Musically, it offers some of the most diverse and challenging material that I've ever written." More...

Casket Robbery Premieres "Pray For Death" Video

Back in March, Casket Robbery dropped new full-length album "Evolution Of Evil" (which is still streaming online here).

Now we're excited to be teaming up with the band again to not only exclusively release a lyric video for the track "Pray For Death," but also issue first official details on the band's impending August tour.

The new clip can be seen below, and Casket Robbery comments: “This song is one of the catchiest on the album. The lyrics in the chorus are especially catchy and disturbing at the same time. The song is from the point of view of a killer torturing someone. ‘The blade, it cuts. The slice it spills your guts.’ We all love the flow of the chorus. The solo features former Warbringer guitarist John Laux and it totally rips!”

Additionally, Casket Robbery will be heading off for the Danger Zone tour alongside Repaid In Blood. Tour dates are available after the jump and the band had this to say:

“We are extremely excited to be heading out to the west coast with Repaid In Blood in August. This will be our first national tour in support of 'Evolution of Evil' and we’ll be on the road more next year. Make sure to come out and see the carnage!" More...
