Debut Novel "Empty" From Metal Underground.com's Own Ty Arthur Unleashed

Metal and gaming scribe Ty Arthur (xFiruath of Metalunderground.com/GameSkinny) today unleashes his debut novel “Empty” via Mirror Matter Press.

Following a string of short story anthology appearances, this long-awaited standalone sci-fi / horror tome is now available at Amazon here.

Down-on-his-luck, stuck performing punishment duty in the lower levels of the Penrose, Junior Engineer 3rd Class Hansen wants nothing more than to see the wreckage of a newly discovered ship dating back to man's earliest deep space explorations. The engineer is about to get his wish, and in the process come face-to-face with a long-dormant horror waiting patiently for the perfect vessel. What he'll uncover in the darkness will threaten to consume him, body and soul.

Arthur had this to say about his inaugural solo work:

“While the themes of 'Empty' draw heavily from personal experiences, it should come as no surprise that extreme metal was a major inspiration for me, and there wasn't a single moment of writing when I didn't have the headphones on, exploring the outer reaches of space through music. Special thanks in particular are due to Augury, Ne Obliviscaris, and Stagnant Waters for the epic and discordant tracks that acted as a soundtrack to those writing sessions.

“Although on the surface 'Empty' is about horrible things discovered out in the depths of space, I think metal fans in particular will be able to identify with the main character and underlying story dealing with the isolation of being different and separated from the herd.

“In the same way the music propelled me forward and inspired my writing, I hope one day 'Empty' inspires a metal band to write a sci-fi album so it can all come full circle.”

The author's recommended listening playlist to go along with a reading of “Empty” consists of:

“Oversee The Rebirth” - Augury
“Distant Satellites” - Anathema
“Heavens Black Sea” - Ihsahn
“Algae” - Stagnant Waters
“NeutroN ShivA” - Blacklodge
“Dying For The Sun” - Witherscape
“Across The Universe” - Aborym
“Painters of the Tempest (Part I): Wyrmholes” - Ne Obliviscaris
“Inside The Particle Storm” - Dark Tranquillity
“Gateways” - Dimmu Borgir
“Carcosa” - Saille

I don't see a physical format option in the link Carl. I want a hard copy.

I'm checking on that now - my understanding was that the physical edition would be up at the same time as the digital one, but there obviously has been a delay of some kind.

First day buyer here when it's available. I love this kind of stuff. I think my first novel was Escape On Venus by Burroughs.

Just heard back - turns out it takes another day or two for the physical edition page to go up, then they will merge and you'll be able to choose either option from the Kindle page. Hope you dig it: this is my only sci-fi story so I'm interested to see what the feedback is like. I've got a new dark fantasy / horror novel in the works as well that hopefully will be following after this release before too terribly long.

I haven't read Escape On Venus, but I'll be heading down to the library and seeing what they've got from Burroughs this weekend though - thanks for the recommendation!

So that was faster than they said it would be - paperback option is now showing up on that same page with the Kindle version.

For some reason the name didn't click with me before - I didn't realize you were talking about the author from the 20s who did the Tarzan and John Carter stories. I'd never read his Venus books before, so I grabbed a bunch and will be gobbling them up this weekend.

Getting some excellent reviews so far and stoked to see a few of the bands have been sharing it around. Definitely gives me motivation to finally finish work on a new one.

I'll buy it. I have a huge collection of pulp Sci-fi from 50s and 60s. I dig Sci Fi, but space stuff isn't my favorite. I like dsytopian literature like Fahrenheit 451, Brave New World and 1984.

Thanks man, if you do end up picking it up let me know what you think. I'm inching my way now towards finishing a next book that's dystopian fantasy with a mythos/horror twist.
