Shape of Despair Discusses "Monotony Fields"
After eleven years, Finnish masters of funeral doom, Shape of Despair, have returned with their fourth album “Monotony Fields.” Said album revisits the atmosphere heard on their first three albums. Rhythms drone on while female vocal harmonies and synth create a tranquil ambiance. While new vocalist Henri Koivula brings a another dimension to the band in his clean vocals, male vocals are primarily the abysmal growled type. These vocals are a harsh contrast when paired with Natalie Koskinen’s delicate voice. Each song is a bleak soundscape into realms of misery and tragedy.
Henri Koivula talked to Metalundergroun.com via email about “Monotony Fields.” With the help of guitarist/keyboardist Jarno Koivula tells us about such aspects as recording the album, why there was such a long wait between albums, delves into some of the lyrical themes and tells us about a special upcoming concert. Bleak Breaks Down On Tour
New York outfit Bleak has issued the following statement online about seeking fan help in buying merch after the group's van broke down on the road:
"Bleak is in some serious trouble. The frame on our van has completely rusted apart, so we had to buy a Suburban truck to finish the tour. We are broke, tired, and frustrated. That being said - we are back on the road ready to finish this tour... no matter what.
"As long as there is at least one person in the world that this band means something to, we won't stop. We have said before, and we continue to believe that Bleak would be nothing without those who support us. If you wanted to buy some merch from us online, we will mail to you while on the road. Every little bit of support helps. Thank you all."
Blasphemour Records also adds: "Our boys in Bleak have run into some trouble on their U.S. tour. Their van has had its last day, and they were forced to buy a vehicle to continue on, and attempt to make it home and to the rest of their dates. Being from NY, and getting stranded in CA has to be a stressful and scary thing. Lets help these guys out, any way we can.
"Go to their webstore and buy some merch, go to a show and buy some merch or even donate to the cause, or just spread the word. You can also go to the Blasphemour Records webstore at this location and buy anything you want now through the end of the Bleak US tour, and we will donate 30% of your sale to Bleak. If you would like to donate to the band, please let us know, and we will get you in touch with someone that can make that happen. Lets show these guys we care about our music, and the people that make it." More...
Arch Enemy Discusses Success In Vocalist Switch
Michael Amott from Arch Enemy sat down for an interview at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, in which he discussed the band's success in changing vocalists from the iconic Angela Gossow to Alissa White-Gluz (in addition to changing from Johan Liiva to Angela Gossow back in 2000). Video of the interview can be seen below, while relevant excerpts are as follows:
"It all happened very quickly, actually. The initial feeling was also that this is gonna be very difficult to replace an iconic front figure in a band who is well established. But Alissa came into the picture very quickly. I mean, at the end of the day I had two choices: to stop the band and say, 'that was a great run,' and just finish it; or try something... with the new lineup. And we just did that, and it's worked out very, very well for us, so we're very happy.
He goes on to say, "I believe that it's in nature of being a fan that you want… you fall in love with a band at one point in your life and you want them to stay exactly the same for the rest of, never change the sound, how they look. And, obviously, this was a big change, but I think it was a successful one. There are a lot of examples when it hasn't worked out so well for bands when they changed their singer, but this is one of those rare cases where, actually, the band has kind of gone up instead of staying the same."
Furtherial To Issue Sophomore LP This Week
Istanbul melodic death/thrash act Furtherial will issue the sophomore record "Un mondo Infinito" as a digital release only through iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Spotify, Real Rhapsody via Wormholedeath Records on July 18th. The new track "Beneath the Stars" can be heard streaming in the player below.
Furtherial was founded in 2007 by Baser Çelebi, under the name of Extinction. After recording an underground and self-produced demo in 2008, the band was born into the Turkish metal scene. Although a record was done in that year, the band activated themselves in July 2009 and began taking stage at many cities in Turkey, mainly at Istanbul, Ankara and Bursa. For the following years they tried to record a new EP, but due to the member changes and various other problems, they could hardly finish their recording session in 2011.
The band released a single in 2012 but after, they had to change their name to “Furtherial” due to there being many bands utilizing the moniker Extinction. "Furtherial" doesn’t exactly mean anything, but was created by Baser Çelebi, who was inspired by the word "further." That word expresses "after life" and the "other side," so Furtherial holds a meaning like "that belongs to the further, coming from the other side."
The band recorded the debut album "Destroying Atropolis" in Autumn 2013. The track list for "Un Mondo Infinito" is:
1. Beneath the Stars
2. Devastating Vengeance Unfold
3. I am the Truth
4. Wind Swept My Wings
5. Elder & Apprentice
6. Light Has Died
7. The Further More...

Artwork for both the single and t-shirt will be provided once again by the talented Carl Ellis, who created the stunning visual of the band’s debut self-titled EP.

Ross continues, “It will be recorded in HVR Studios in Ipswich, run by Dan Biggin (Pentagram Chile, Criminal, Anihilated). Gehtika Unveils Album Artwork
The English midlands extreme metal quintet Gehtika recently revealed details about forthcoming release, "A Monster In Mourning," slated for release August 17th, 2015. Now Gehtika has unveiled the album artwork, which can be seen below.
"The artwork was created by an insanely talented friend of ours, Scott Davidson," states vocalist Anthony Knight. "We worked with him on our Impossible Question EP and the 'Stack The Pyres' single so, as with the the Owen Davies, our album producer, we had to go back to him for this.
"Infinitely talented and a true gent to work with; Scott is amazing at creating fantasy artwork so we knew this would be a project he'd really get stuck into. Myself and our guitarist Scott [Allen] met up with him to go through the story, lyrics and overall concept and he went away and created a bunch of sketches which we really struggled to choose from! We eventually/reluctantly managed to narrow it down though and he's produced the album artwork depicting the Prince character (aka the 'Monster In Mourning') plus two other pieces which are only available in the limited edition version of the album."
New album "A Monster In Mourning" follows a concept the band had initially explored on previous single release "Stack The Pyres" (which has been re-recorded for the album). More...

We hope to see you guys there joining in on the madness!"

Ambassador Gun Posts New Video
The first of several official videos from Ambassador Gun's inbound "Tomb Of Broken Sleep" album has come online just days before the band's independent release of the punishing, ten-track, grind-your-fuckin-face-off fest.
"Mighty Steed" shows off the "mellower" side of Ambassdor Gun, so to speak, as it's easily the most leisurely track on "Tomb Of Broken Sleep." But don't let the half-paced approach of the song sucker you into thinking this band went soft. The visual reworking of the song jacks live footage of the Minneapolis grind trio filmed by Allan Towne into random cuts of nature footage and more, edited and completed by the band's Tim Sieler.
Check out the video below, and you can see Ambassdor Gun live on these dates:
8/04/2015 Triple Rock Social Club - Minneapolis, MN w/ Godhunter, Destroyer Of Light
9/05/2015 Triple Rock Social Club - Minneapolis, MN w/ Fuck The Facts, Gar, Morality Crisis More...
Avantasia Announces New Album
The original is back: Edguy frontman Tobias Sammet has returned to the studio to work on the new chapter of Avantasia.
The sequel to latest album "The Mystery Of Time" (2013) will be called "Ghostlights" and is scheduled to be released in early 2016. An EP/single is also planned to be released for this autumn, and in March 2016 a giant all-star ensemble will set off on the Ghostlights World Tour.
Tobias Sammet comments: "In the past months I've spent a lot of time in the studio, an odd recluse in the basement, secretly working obsessively on something that reads and feels and sounds like a new - very strong - chapter in the story of Avantasia. I must say Avantasia is a fantastic outlet for creativity, and it's truly inspiring to create a piece of music for so many great vocalists and instrumentalists.
"The new material is very bombastic and dynamic, and even though it's extremely diverse, every minute of it sounds like Avantasia. I'm really proud of what we're creating right now. And as if that wasn't enough: I'm anxiously looking forward to hitting the road again. I didn't necessarily expect this to happen as in the past it has always been difficult to align the individual schedules of the guest stars, but things have worked out, and we're ready to make it happen one more time! We'll put on a big show, we're gonna play over three hours, and we'll take the fans to a magical world all its own - to Avantasia. The live setlist is going to embrace the entire history of Avatnasia, from 'The Metal Opera' to 'Ghostlights' and of course everything in between!"
The world tour will kick off in Berlin on March 4th, 2016. Dates are as follows: More...

Masters Of Metal Announces Debut Full Length
Masters of Metal - the band launched by metal veterans and members of Agent Steel: Juan Garcia (guitars), Bernie Versailles (guitars & vocals), Robert Cardenas (bass & backing vocals) and Rigo Amezcua (drums) - announced the impending release of the debut full length album "From Worlds Beyond" on September 18th via Metalville Records.
The Los Angeles based four-piece released an independent self titled EP in April 2013 which included 4 blistering tracks with everything that you can expect from members of Agent Steel. Recorded by Bill Metoyer (Fates Warning, Trouble, GWAR), and mixed by Bernie Versailles; who, aside from being Agent Steel’s guitarist also worked behind the board on the band’s “Omega Conspiracy” (1999) “Order of the illuminati” (2003), and “Alienigma” (2007) albums.
The band entered the studio in 2014 to record their first full-length and just as the album was being finished in October 2014 Versailles sustained a brain injury, winding up in a coma. Since his unfortunate accident he’s been making a miraculous recovery with the help of friends, family and fans. With Bernie unable to complete the album, producer and friend Bill Metoyer completed the album and also tracked the last song “Vengeance & Might” (which features lead vocals by James Rivera (Helstar), along with Helstar guitarist Larry Barragan, and Andrew Atwood).
The album's artwork (shown below) was created by Gustavo Sazes (Arch Enemy, Angra, Firewind). Co-founding guitarist Juan Garcia (Agent Steel/EvilDead) who recently returned from a successful European tour with Body Count, commented: "The music on this new album captures the integrity, and dedication of the band. I think everyone involved raised the bar on songwriting, performance, execution, and brought their best to the table." More...
