"Faith/Breaker" features album artwork by Soul Asphyx Arts and was recorded with Kevin Peters at Anemic Studios. The band's Josh Humphries also recently left Aurora, issuing this statement:

"So I recently made one of the hardest but also most exciting decisions of my life. My close friends know this already but I have decided to leave Aurora and will now be a full time member for Lock & Key. This wasn't a decision I rushed into as I have been with aurora since day one and had some of the most amazing times with some of my best friends! But for me, this is the end of a chapter and the start of a new and exciting one! I'm really stoked to be a part of Lock & Key and have really high expectations about my future with these top lads! Me and the Aurora boys are still tight as, and they have only been supportive! Thanks for the journey boys"

Nechochwen Releasing New Album

After several years of silence, West Virginia's own Nechochwen returns with a brand new album that doesn't lose site of the band's acoustic and classical roots but reveals a more emotive and aggressive side.

On September 4th, the old spirit of "Heart of Akamon" will take you on a journey back in time and experience the persecution, struggle and pride of the indigenous peoples almost forgotten Native America. The band comments:

"On this fourth volume of Nechochwen, our minds have collectively gathered and focused on events that occurred long ago in the Eastern Woodlands of North America. Before Europeans arrived, this land had many names in many different languages that refer to it being the original, wild land, such as Akamon.

"As time passed in the creation of this album, our minds and hearts gradually journeyed westward and we thought of many things: loss, tradition, hatred, pride, guidance, solidarity, purpose, and struggle. A powerful symbol of this struggle, especially in light of the intense pressure to move west, is the distant memory of displaced men, women, and children roaming through muck with black legs.

"This theme is woven throughout the album; in simplest terms it is about finding a place to belong through traditions that are held sacred. Through these sacred traditions, everything finds itself in its place. This album is dedicated to the land where we have grown and where we still reside; a unique, wooded valley rich in Indian history within the Heart of Akamon." More...

Dire Peril Announces New Vocalist

U.S. metal act Dire Peril announced that John Yelland (Disforia/Judicator) will be the band's new vocalist. Yelland previously appeared on the band's latest EP "Through Time and Space" along side King Diamond guitarist Andy LaRocque.

Yelland commented: "I've always really enjoyed Dire Peril's music and always been curious what my voice could do for the band. I'm thrilled to be in the fold now and I'm quite confident this is going to be the best Dire Peril material you've heard yet!"

Guitarist and band founder Jason Ashcraft added: "I am very happy and honored to announce John as the new singer of Dire Peril. John and I have been friends for awhile now and I've always admired his voice. When he showed interest in filling the vacant spot there was no way I could pass it up. I strongly believe you will all be very happy with what you hear from him."

Wasting no time on what new material would sound like with Yelland at the helm, the band has released a brand new single entitled "Planet Preservation," which can also be downloaded for free from the Dire Peril Bandcamp site.

Sunday Old School: Symphony X

For all the stereotypes that exist about heavy metal fans being mindless head bangers, who just want music that’s loud, fast and full of shouting, there is also a full awareness that heavy metal has a long history of complex arrangements and a penchant for storytelling. Many bands over the years have become highly skilled at this, many of which in the progressive metal genre, which is an area we’ll be looking at today as we examine American prog metallers, Symphony X.

The seeds of Symphony X were sown in 1994 when guitarist, Michael Romeo released his instrumental solo album, "The Dark Chapter," on which he was joined by keyboard player, Michael Pinnella. The album was something of a success in Japan and the two decided to expand their partnership by bringing in vocalist, Rod Tyler, drummer Jason Rullo and bass player, Thomas Miller and christened their new outfit, Symphony X, which was also the name of their first album released later the same year. It was another well received release in Japan, leading to a sophomore full length only six months later, though in this short time, the group had parted company with Rod Tyler and recruited singer, Russell Allen.
