Rivers Of Nihil Posts "Monarchy" Stream

Rivers Of Nihil today unveils details on sophomore album "Monarchy," due out worldwide on Metal Blade Records this coming August 21st, 2015. The title track can be heard below.

The first video from the album will be shot this weekend and is being directed by David Brodsky (GWAR, Whitechapel, Battlecross). Bassist Adam Biggs commented about the song and concept of the album:

"The whole album is a concept piece, lyrically. It follows the struggles of a new breed of intelligent life on a planet earth that is now essentially a vast, oceanless desert. These beings, as humans did long before them, create a ruling class that dominates the masses through religious fear.

"By the time we reach the title track, this 'Monarchy' is in full swing. Musically, the track expresses this dominant oppression via an exploration of our heavy, groove-oriented side. This one is a bruiser, but it doesn't abandon our taste for blast beats, fierce riffs, lead work and an overall sense of shred." More...

Soilwork Posts Lyric Video For Album's Title Track

Swedish masters of melodic metal from Soilwork will release their forthcoming 10th studio album, "The Ride Majestic," worldwide on August 28th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records. Various pre-order bundles are available right here.

After a teaser that bafflingly came out via MySpace, Soilwork today reveals the first single from the album, “The Ride Majestic," which can be heard through the lyric video below.

Vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid discusses the meaning behind the song: “[The title track] was one of the first songs we wrote for this album. The intro sets a certain melancholic mood and after that it's all pure melodic mayhem. There’s a very epic and anthemic feel to it, which suits the album title perfectly.

"The lyrics deal with the fear of dying and the art of remaining sane while you're still alive. Not wanting to miss a thing, wanting to embrace every moment, and being able to bring it all back on your dying day, with a snap of your fingers. It's also a tribute to the ones we've lost and the comfort of hoping that they will catch us when we fall, on the other side.

"We believe that, if there is an afterlife, this song would be the soundtrack to that journey. It deals with the acceptance of life and death and possibly everything between and beyond.” More...

Bayou Doom Fest III Details Announced

The Houston Doom Brigade is pleased to announce that this year’s edition of the Bayou Doom Fest will be headlined by none other than Houston legends Helstar. Bayou Doom Fest III will take place on August 8th at Fitzgerald’s in Houston, TX. In addition to Helstar, the fest will feature Century Media’s newest signees, Oceans of Slumber, plus Las Cruces, Sanctus Bellum, Project Armageddon, Funeral Horse, and many more.

Speaking on the festival, Helstar vocalist James Rivera stated “Although most people wouldn’t consider us to be a doom band in the traditional sense, doom is a style of music that is very near and dear to our hearts and it’s one that’s been a big influence on us. Doom metal has a darkness to it that we incorporate into our sound as well. In honor of the occasion, we’ve got a very special set planned that will showcase some of our doomiest tracks. We’ve also got some surprises planned around the theme of the late, great Christopher Lee as Dracula. Godfathers of Doom and Nosferatu anyone?”

Houston Doom Brigade co-founder Doomstress Alexis commented “There’s been no bigger friend to the doom scene in Texas than Helstar. Though they may a somewhat unorthodox choice as headliner, there’s not a doom fan in the state that isn’t a big fan of Helstar. That makes them a great fit for the fest.”

Now in its 3rd year, Bayou Doom Fest has showcased the best talent that the Gulf Coast region has to offer. Festival alumni include Venomous Maximus, Warbeast, Wo Fat, Cauldron (ex-Gammacide), Mothership, and Destroyer of Light. More...

Necropsy Releasing "Buried In The Woods"

Xtreem Music is dropping five Finnish death metal albums this year, with album #3 coming from veteran death metal outfit Necropsy (not to be confused with the U.S. band that later changed names to Noisem).

Existing since 1987, Necropsy recorded a good bunch of demos, all of them being re-issued on a 3-CD/4-LP set through Century Media in 2013. One of the band's highest points back in early 90's was the release of a split album with Demigod and a 7 "EP titled "Never to Be Forgotten," although it wasn't until 2011 when the group released debut full-length "Bloodwork."

Necropsy's second full-length "Buried in the Woods" offers another dose of heavy, crushing, catchy and rotting death metal due out August 1st. The track listing is:

1. Buried in the Woods
2. Cold Fart Morbidity
3. Just Sharpen My Knife
4. Dead Inherit the Land
5. Full Moon Catlin
6. Pages of Flesh

Hecate Enthroned Splits With Vocalist

U.K. outfit Hecate Enthroned, which launched comeback album "Virulent Rapture" back in 2013 (reviewed here), has now parted ways with its fourth vocalist. The band comments:

"Today we are writing this statement to inform all of our fans and confirm that as of this weekend Elliot and Hecate Enthroned have parted ways.

"There is no bad blood between us and this has not been an easy decision. Elliot has played some amazing shows with us, Germany, Czech Republic, Norway and extensively throughout the UK, also making a huge contribution to the band in the studio as well as live.

"Unfortunately over the last few months as the new album has been taking shape it has become clear that we (Hecate) and Elliot are going in different musical directions. So with no dramas and no animosity the decision has been made for us to part ways.

"As we have said we're all still mates, as that's what this band is about to us first and foremost. We all wish Elliot well in his next musical expressions and we advise you all to keep a keen eye out for his next projects.

"As for us it's still full steam ahead with the new album and celebrating our 20th anniversary with shows and video releases throughout the rest of the year, we will have some more news for you soon!"

Dani Filth Talks New Album's Title, Recording

Cradle of Filth's latest caliginous creation, "Hammer of the Witches," is set for release this Friday, July 10th via Nuclear Blast.

In the final trailer detailing the making of the new album, a face painted Dani Filth discusses the album's title and how it was recorded with Scott Atkins. Check it out below, and you can still catch the previous video discussing the album's artwork right here.

"Hammer of the Witches" was brought to fruition in Britain's Witch County in darkest rural Suffolk at the reputedly haunted Grindstone Studios.

The album's title is named after the "Malleus Maleficarum," a medieval document of guidelines regarding the persecution and torture of witches - but Cradle of Filth's title version is more retributory: It's the "Hammer of the Witches;" the hammer is in the witches' hands and it's payback time.

Pre-orders are up here and the track listing is as follows:

01. Walpurgis Eve
02. Yours Immortally...
03. Enshrined in Crematoria
04. Deflowering the Maidenhead, Displeasuring the Goddess
05. Blackest Magick in Practice
06. The Monstrous Sabbat (Summoning the Coven)
07. Hammer of the Witches

Dark Hound Premieres Full "Oceans" EP

Man how the time flies... some of our regulars may recall all the way back in 2011 a band called Dark Hound appeared on our Peter Steele tribute album "All For None, None For All" with a cover of "Life Is Killing Me." Since then Dark Hound has released a full-length album, and now returns again with a follow-up EP titled "Oceans."

With "Oceans" set to drop on July 10th, we're bringing you a full stream two days ahead of time. Check out all five tracks in the player below!

"Oceans," the follow-up to last year’s self-titled debut album from Dark Hound, was recorded and engineered by Frank Serafine at Free Man Studio with additional guitars recorded by Evan Hensley at Twilight Cloud Studio.

Vocals were co-produced and recorded by Kaelin Tauxe at Lair de Rocke, while the mixing and mastering was handled by Jörg Uken at Soundlodge. The track listing is:

1. Thread
2. To Know End
3. Just As Blind
4. Rearview Mirror
5. Oceans

With the unlikely home base of Nashville, Tennessee, one might wonder just how Dark Hound managed to achieve a heavy metal sound that seems so distinct and distant from the country music heroes spun off of Music Row.

Vocalist ET Brown comments: "Though we live in the capital of country music, Nashville really is Music City, USA. There is such a rich and diverse musical community in this town, you don't have to go too far off Broadway to escape the honky-tonks filled with tourists in boots and cowboy hats and find amazingly talented musicians from all walks of life playing all sorts of great music. I think where we're from is an important factor as to why we don't sound like your typical modern-day metal group." More...
