Draugurinn Celebrates Ice

Draugurinn is set to drop "Ísavetur" via Nordvis Produktion on August 21st, 2015. Nordvis comments on the ambient album:

"Visualize yourself, adrift in a world where an opaque veil of volcanic ash obscures the cold rays of the sun; allowing only a scant few to even graze the rock and soil of nature’s surface. Lost, you traverse the bleak landscape when you begin to hear a subtle drumming in the distance. Intrigued, you move towards the sound. The drumming, subtle at first but steadily growing, louder and louder; the beats of your heart already matching its rhythm…

"'Ísavetur,' the latest offering from Disa of Draugurinn, is more of an experience than it is a musical album – it is the soundtrack of a shamanic ritual; one that will evoke a sensation of longing and despair in its audience, whilst simultaneously capturing its full attention. Draugurinn’s ritualistic dark ambient takes us down a path where few have trod; through the mist, into the nameless unknown.

"The album marks the continuation of 2012’s 'Móðuharðindin' - an album wrought in the sign of fire, and one that told the tale of the eruption of Icelandic volcano Lakagigar, the aftermath of which led to a drop in global temperature that lasted for several years. Thus, to continue what started in 2012, the next natural step was to work with the element of ice; a contrast to fire, but one equal in strength." More...

The Devil Wears Prada Details New EP

The Devil Wears Prada's first official release since 2013, the conceptual "Space" EP, will be in stores on August 21st via Rise Records. Pre-orders can be placed over here

The "Space" EP is comprised of six songs and is a wholly collaborative effort, with all band members contributing - Mike Hranica (vocals), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, clean vocals), Andy Trick (bass), Daniel Williams (drums), and touring musicians Jonathan Gering (keyboards), and Kyle Sipress (lead guitar). The end result is a collection of thematic songs that each explores a different point of view of space and those things that exist outside of the Earth's province - the sun, the moon, aliens, asteroids, and the interstellar space explorer.

"Planet A," tells the story of an interplanetary ship's commander; "Alien" is straightforward and brutal, leaving no hope for the survival of mankind. Fear, arrogance and a near-incantation of what's really important in life are at the center of "Asteroids."

"We learned a lot from the 'Zombie' EP," said Hranica of the band's 2010 release. "We wanted each song on the 'Space' EP to have a specificity about it, to have its own identity separate from the others, to have its own sound, but still have them all united in concept. We talked about a lot of different themes, but 'space' just felt right."

Like Zombies, "space opera" doesn't run too close to the personal interests of Hranica. "Making this EP was a great experience because it allowed me to open up my imagination and creativity, not to be hindered by having too much knowledge of the subject and become overly analytical, being able to write a more fictional narrative. We really look forward to making more records like this."

The "Space" EP track listing is:

1. Planet A
2. Alien
3. Moongod
4. Interlude (instrumental)
5. Supernova
6. Asteroid More...

Dave Mustaine: "The Music Is Really Aggressive"

In an interview with GuitarWorld.com, Megadeth's Dave Mustaine states the sound of the new album will be a dramatic shift from "Super Collider."

Mustaine comments: “I think a lot of people are gonna be happy, because the music is really aggressive again."

He also goes on to say, “I compiled stuff from things I laid down over a lot of years, on cassettes, microcassettes, even going back to floppy disc. I put all of it onto a hard drive, and it came out to more than 200 song ideas and riffs. Which is a pretty overwhelming number. We got that down to 13 songs.”

According to the article, three song titles to appear on album #15 are “The Emperor Has No Clothes,” “Tyranocide,” and “Poisonous Shadows.”

This upcoming album follows the departure of Shawn Drover and Chris Broderick and the recruitment of new member Kiko Louriero.
