Soilwork Recruits New Bassist

The Sweden-based melodic death metal experts from Soilwork will release forthcoming 10th studio album, "The Ride Majestic," worldwide on August 28th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast Records.

As of this new album cycle, Soilwork is joined by new bassist Markus Wibom, formerly of Helsingborg hardcore group Hearts Alive. Wibom replaces longtime band member Ola Flink, who has amicably left the group to focus on other endeavors. Wibom has been a personal friend of the band for many years and has previously toured with Soilwork as a guitar tech and lighting designer. Wibom made his live debut in Stockholm on April 30th.

Soilwork vocalist Bjorn “Speed” Strid states, “We all sooner or later come to a crossroad in our lives, when our focus of being fueled by the past, is just as strong as our visions of the future and we have to make that incredibly hard decision. Where do I go now? Flink will forever be a symbol for Soilwork and of all we were and still are about. That being said, we all could sense that he eventually would come to the above mentioned crossroad. He understandably and respectfully chose to step down.

"So, where do WE go now? Let me introduce you to one of the finest and most stand up people I know: Markus Wibom. He's been a long-time friend and is an overall multi-instrumental amazing musician. He's been with us before, on past world tours. He's also an amazing character and I couldn't think of a better person to fill Flink's shoes, which indeed are very big… literally (Markus’ shoe size is actually even bigger, if anybody wants to know). Anyway, as much as I will miss Flink, I'm just as excited to tour the world with one of my absolute best friends. Thank you Flink, you will forever rule. Thank you, Markus, for taking this on. I know you will blow people's minds, once the world tour of The Ride Majestic commences. Please give Markus a very warm welcome everyone!”

Wibom adds, “It's a great honor and a true pleasure to play with such skilled musicians and amazing people! It's going to be awesome to share the stage with those guys after all these years on the road together, and with the new record coming up - it absolutely kills!” More...

Pit Stories: Round 1 - Fight!

The pit is the heart of the metal scene, and there's a 1,001 amazing stories to be found there. We're on a quest to unearth them all!

This week guitarist Raphael Pinsker from New York's Fin'amor shares the following tale of a fight breaking out during every single song of an Oceano set:

It had been a few years since I had last seen Oceano live, the last time being New England Metal & Hardcore Fest. The band is known to "bring the beef" live and I was excited to finally see them again. The amount of energy Oceano brings to the stage is massive and I was looking forward to seeing what would happen at this show.

As I walked into the venue I immediately notice how "DIY" this place looked: makeshift bar? Check. Makeshift bathrooms? Check. On the second floor the toilet was flooded, the sink was stuffed with trash and empty beer cans were afloat at the rim. This place was a complete shit hole, but deep down inside I knew something had to go down that night.

I met up with my buddy Al and we grabbed beers at the "bar." Oceano begins their set and no more than 30 seconds in, the entire place is rocking back and forth. Everyone in the venue gets pushed back, beers are dropping, people are falling on each other, and the pit is raging. First song in: FIGHT. Al and I look at each other confused as kids are trying to break it up. The band continues playing through all of this as if nothing happened.

Oceano moves onto their second song, again another fight. Like clockwork, Oceano is bringing the beef and the fights keep coming. During the breakdown of their sixth song a massive fight breaks out, Al and I look at each other with huge grins on our faces. He points over to the sound booth as we see the sound engineer grab an iron pipe and hop into the crowd to help break the fight up. Staff and security are pulling kids off of each other and kicking them out of the venue.

The house lights get turned on and staff is ejecting everyone in sight. We turn around to the bar and everything has been packed away into blue bins and was being carried upstairs. After the room was cleared Al and I were recapping on what we had just witnessed. Al tells me "There are shows, and then there are shows you remember. This is a show that you will remember for the rest of your life." It's true.

Fin'amor's new album "Forbidding Mourning" will be released on July 7th, 2015 with pre-orders now available here. Two tracks from the album can be heard in the Bandcamp player below. More...

Dyscarnate Parts With Member, Working On Album

U.K. outfit Dyscarnate has issued the following announcement about parting ways with bassist / vocalist Henry Bates:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the departure of Henry Bates - vocalist, bassist and founding member of Dyscarnate.

"Henry has decided to leave to focus on his personal life and other ventures. Henry's contribution to the band over the years has been massive. From being a core part of the writing process of both albums, to tearing up stages across Australia, Russia, Indonesia, Israel, Europe and more. We are genuinely gutted to lose him from our ranks, but will continue to count him among our closest friends.

"However, this sad news will not stop the Dyscarnate steamroller. We're very happy to finally announce we will be entering the studio tomorrow to record a taster of our upcoming third album.

"This recording will feature a very special guest on vocals, who we are ridiculously excited to work with; being very big fans of his work. Expect updates over the coming days and weeks as we take it to the next fucking level."

Terror Vocalist To Miss Tour

Terror vocalist Scott Vogel just issued the following announcement about sitting out upcoming European shows:

"After messing my back up last week I just received the MRI results from the injury and I guess it's bitter sweet news. On one hand, it looks like I will not need surgery. On the other, I have a pretty decent disc problem in my lower back that is pressing on a nerve causing pain and also numbness down my leg to my foot. Feels kinda scary to be honest. This will take some physical therapy to correct and strengthen.

"Terror is scheduled to leave for our European summer tour in four days. This band does not cancel shows very easily and I would hate to be the cause of a whole tour being pulled. Our bass player, David Wood, sings for an amazing hardcore band called Down To Nothing and he is very capable of stepping in for me while I'm recovering.

"I'm hoping everyone is understanding of this situation and can rally behind Terror to make this tour as fun and energized as any other. It’s going be hard for me to stay back while the band is out there playing these shows and acting like weirdos in between them, but life goes on. Please help David out by singing along and as always, we really appreciate all of your support. It's times like this when it means the most."

Terror's new album "The 25th Hour" is also coming out August 7th and you can hear the track "The Solution" below. More...

Swallow The Sun Signs To Century Media Records

Century Media Records and Swallow the Sun announced a worldwide deal to release the band's upcoming albums.

Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R Century Media Records Europe comments: "It's probably no news that we love the dark side of Finland. But we are very proud to finally work with one of the darkest Finnish bands that have spread their gospel of doom for the last 15 years. I first took notice of Swallow the Sun when my Century Media colleague Philipp Schulte released their debut album on vinyl on his own label Imperium Productions. Since then I've met them at several shows with bands like Moonsorrow, Insomnium and Paradise Lost, and became a fan of their unique mix of doom, death and despair. It's an honor to start our direct relationship with a very special release later this year. Kippis, Cheers and Prost on the the next 15 years!"

Another Band Exits Metal Alliance-Tour

Lorna Shore has exited the tour that features Deicide and Hate Eternal (originally branded the Metal Alliance tour, which was scrapped after Entombed A.D. was booted). Explains the band:

"To those attending or planning to attend the remaining dates of The Deicide Headliner/Metal Alliance tour we are sad to say we will not be able to finish the rest of the tour. Unfortunately there have been multiple passings in a few members family’s and in this time of need, they are choosing to be with their families and we hope you can support our decision as we feel family is always first.

"We will be sure to be back in the areas we cancelled this year and our apologies are the most sincere. We highly advise you check out the rest of the tour and thank them for having us out! We apologize again and thank you for sticking with us."

After accusations from online commentors that Deicide was to blame for the unexpected tour problems rather than monetary issues, the band also issued a statement about the ill-fated live trek that can be read here).
