Monuments Parts Ways With Drummer

Monuments is officially parting ways with drummer Anup Sastry. The band issued this statement online:

"Anup is stepping down from his position in Monuments. We've had a sick time and we're still good mates. This doesn't effect our touring schedule and all our summer festival shows will go ahead as planned. Huge shout out to Daniel Lang from Red Enemy for filling in on such short notice. First stop Grasspop!"

Anup also had this to say: "As much as I've enjoyed sharing the stage with the band, I’ve unfortunately decided to leave Monuments. Touring with the band just wasn’t for me. I had an absolute blast playing with the group live, and I’m leaving the band on good terms. I was able to see a lot of beautiful places and meet a lot of wonderful people while in the band, and I’m very appreciative and grateful for those experiences.

"This decision is very amicable, and I will surely miss hanging out with everyone. Unfortunately, Monuments just wasn’t for me. I wish the absolute best for Olly, Adam, John, and Chris. Monuments will continue to get on stage and rip it, and I wish the band the best of luck with their future endeavors. I’ll be staying busy with a few projects, which I'm excited to announce and share with everyone in the future.

"I want to thank everyone for all of the amazing and continued support. It really does mean a lot. With all of this being said, here’s my last Monuments play-through video. Enjoy!" More...

Spire Releasing New Album

Iron Bonehead Productions is proud to present "Entropy," the debut album from Australia's Spire coming on August 19th, 2016.

Shrouded in a mystique as shadowy and ominous as the moniker, Spire seen a slow 'n' steady evolution since the band's formation in 2007, releasing a self-titled EP in 2010 and then the murky 'n' majestic "Metamorph" EP in 2011.

So enthralled by the fathomless expanses of the latter, Iron Bonehead saw fit to release "Metamorph" on 12" vinyl before the close of 2014. The stage was thus set for Spire's inevitable debut album...and at last, it arrives in "Entropy."

Earth Ship Posts "Red Leaves" Video

Berlin-based Earth Ship is set to release upcoming album "Hollowed" on June 24th via Napalm Records. To shorten the waiting time, the band has now premiered a brand new music video for "Red Leaves." The crew at Frameshock Production commented on the brand new video:

"When the band approached us to collaborate on this video we instantly thought that the dark, mysterious vibe of their music and the song 'Red Leaves' in particular deserves a moody, gritty video. Hats off to the guys (and girl) for giving us a lot of creative control and being open to trying something different. We think the result speaks for itself and hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making our vision come to life."

Earth Ship states: "'Red Leaves' is audio and visually a dark and melancholic homage to life journey and death that will sink deep within you if you let it. Certainly one of our most catchy songs to date but also heavier than a sack of doorknobs and more monolithic than a mountain." More...

Somnium Nox Releases "Apocrypha"

Somnium Nox's new release "Apocrypha" is out now and can be heard below or picked up at Bandcamp here. The following press release was also issued about the single-song EP:

"Opening with sounds emanating from the native Australian tribal instrument, the didgeridoo, the music quickly picks up speed and intensity, thus beginning a new chapter in modern black metal. Somnium Nox, a band comprising veterans of known but unrevealed bands, step into the world of black metal with aplomb. Instead of releasing several fragmented songs under the pretext of an EP, they've decided instead to release one monolithic song encompassing everything great from the style.

"From the lush, foresty sounds of Drudkh, to the experimentation of bands like Blut Aus Nord and Deathspell Omega, to the atmospheric brilliance of Spectral Lore and the progressive skills of Grey Heaven Fall and Seedna, they've somehow merged it seamlessly, in a way that all these disparate elements complement each other and enhance the overall black metal appeal of this surprisingly potent and groundbreaking release. Somnium Nox have set new standards with 'Apocrypha' while innocuously releasing a single track to serve that purpose." More...

Tides Of Sulfur Streams "Maltheist"

U.K. based death / sludge trio Tides Of Sulfur is now streaming new track "Maltheist," taken off forthcoming album "Extinction Curse," which will be released via Black Bow Records on July 15th 2016.

The band commented: "We fancied writing an utterly misanthropic and aggressively negative tune. It started off as an anti-religious affair but we'd decided that's been done a fair bit. What if God is real? What if the religions of the world are partly right but it turned out he was just a sadistic vicious bastard? It turns out that there's a word for someone who believes that - A malthiest." More...

Blood Incantation Releasing "Starspawn"

Colorado death metal band Blood Incantation will release debut full-length album "Starspawn" this summer (August 18th) on Dark Descent Records.

After signing with the label just prior to the August 2015 release of the "Interdimensional Extinction" EP, Blood Incantation returns with a 30-minute cerebral whirlwind of powerful atmospheric death metal. Dark Descent Records comments:

"Produced entirely in analog, the energy and magnetism of live Blood Incantation is tangibly melting through the speakers, and the songwriting, production and performance constellations have all fully aligned.

"The intense and otherworldly technical/ambient/funeral death metal of 'Starspawn' leaves the listener feeling transcendentally disembodied at the end of an unknown dimension. With appearances at California Death Fest and Covenant Festival (Canada) already on the horizon, and an even more extensive US tour this September, the worldwide spread of the Blood Incantation tentacles into all orbits is as inevitable as your own death and this galaxy’s violent collapse."

Kvelertak Posts "Nattesferd" Video

Roadrunner Records group Kvelertak just released an official music video for “Nattesferd,” the title track from the band's new LP that arrived this past May. The otherworldly clip - produced by Norwegian production company Bacon and directed by Jakob Marky - is streaming now below.

The video was filmed in Fårö, a Baltic Sea island off the south eastern coast of Sweden where Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman lived / died and made several films, among them "Through a Glass Darkly" (1961), "Persona" (1966), "Hour of the Wolf" (1968), "Shame" (1968), "The Passion of Anna" (1969), and "Scenes from a Marriage" (1972).

Marky, a recent winner of the prestigious After Bergman Award (which allowed the possibility of filming on Fårö), commented on the video: "I wanted to make something circular, as the track has it’s never-ending guitars, coming back to haunt you. I very much liked the idea of filming science fiction on the same places that Tarkovsky and Bergman visited. I think both of them were very big fans of the golden triangle too, or so I heard.” More...
