Pit Stories: The Center Of The Wall Of Death
Time for another Pit Story my metal loving friends! Sorry about missing last week - I was a wee bit busy in the hospital having my son be born and forgot all about the column.
Now that we're back on track, we've got a tale from Denmark's Helhorse, who warns about the possibility of a wall of death going bad if the crowd doesn't have the right energy going. Helhorse tells the story like this:
At some point (no one remembers excatly when) after the release of our second album ”Oh Death” our lead singer Mikkel – when playing live shows - got into the habit of doing a a wall of death, and before the audience would run into each other, he would get off stage and put him self in the middle telling people to do their worst and really rough him up. And it always seemed to work, the crowd would go nuts after that.
At one show in a small Danish city he did it once again. Up to that point it had been kind of a weird show. The vibe was sort of off. The crowd for some reason seemed a bit pissed off (maybe they all simultaneously had a shitty week.) But at the same time they didn't move a lot, so we weren't getting the reaction we wanted to.
A lot of tension was building. So Mikkel did his thing and put him self in the middle of the wall of death. And when it came to it, they just tackled him like it was the rugby match of the century, they were furious, it looked absolutely crazy.
Right after they hit him, he went down, and for 5 or 10 seconds he stayed down. We all started to get worried, but he slowly came on his feet, his face slightly bloody looking very confused. Mikkel has never – for some reason – put him self in that situation again.
Helhorse just released a self-titled album last month after signing with Spinefarm Records earlier this year. Check out a music video taken off the album for the "Hell Of A Ride" track below. You can also follow the latest on Helhorse at Facebook here. More...

Mountaineer Announces Debut Album
California-based Mountaineer, a newly-found act with the roots of its members tracing to Secrets Of The Sky, Lycus, Lament Cityscape, and others, just completed new (and debut) recordings. The band is planning to release this debut record through Battleground Records in the summer.
Mountaineer was formed in late 2015 by guitarist Clayton Bartholomew (ex-Secrets Of The Sky, ex-Lycus) and longtime friend, vocalist Miguel Meza. The two demoed out a full album and soon after recruited guitarist Mike McClatchey (Lament Cityscape), drummer Sean McCullough (Lament Cityscape), and bassist David Small to round out the live band.
While elements of the more doom-laden, low-end thunder of the creators' prior works are present in this new act's sound, Mountaineer displays a dense but accessible, organic style of emotional rock, their output ranging from dense and epic movements to more stripped-down and accessible passages.
In March of this year, Mountaineer entered Nu-Tone Studios with engineer Ben Hirschfield to record the debut. While the album is not being released until later this year, the band has decided to release two songs early via a special advance vinyl EP in conjunction with a West Coast tour in August.
Bearing the tracks "Coma Fever" and "Siren Song," the two-song EP will be pressed on a 7" picture disc lathe cut, limited to 55 copies. The record will only be available at Mountaineer's upcoming live shows in August, after which any remaining pieces will be sold on the band's webstore. Stay tuned for the official tour routing. Projekt F Posts "Unbegun" Video
Montreal industrial outfit Projekt F has posted a new video for "Unbegun" in support of the recently released EP "The Butterfly Effect."
The EP is the group's loudest release to date featuring seven pinnacle tracks for your auditory senses discussing the torrid relationship between man and God. This release continues the thematic discography of "Skins" (2013) and "Under The Skin" (2014). Vocalist Jonh M. Miller commetns:
''We consider 'The Butterfly Effect' to be an extremely raw and honest EP. Early in the process of making it, we knew that we would not be making a music video for it. However, we thought it was important to give something to our fans.
"So we decided to make a video that would show a side of Projekt F that hasn't been seen before. Like the EP, a raw and honest one. Many of you have seen our 'on stage persona' before, but with this video that we have made for our single, 'Unbegun,' we are sharing a different side of ourselves.'' More...
Kuolemanlaakso Announces New Album
On August 26th, Kuolemanlaakso comes back, but unlike you’ve never heard the band before. As the title aptly implies, "M. Laakso – Vol. 1: The Gothic Tapes" is the first solo album of Kuolemanlaakso mastermind Laakso.
It showcases a songwriting that is catchier and more varied than ever, and it shall be released internationally by Svart Records. Laakso comments:
"Kuolemanlaakso started out as my one-man solo project, which quickly escalated into a full-action monster with shows in the biggest clubs and metal festivals around Finland. As our singer Kotamäki will be occupied with Swallow the Sun’s touring duties for a long time, I finally had the opportunity to record an actual Kuolemanlaakso solo album."
He goes on to say, "I chose to do these songs in English, as they demanded a more musical language than Finnish. However, Finnish will always remain the only official language of the non-solo Kuolemanlaakso albums."
The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Woodshed Studio, Germany, by V. Santura, with whom Kuolemanlaakso has worked with since the very beginning of the project's recording career. Santura also acts as a guitarist and backing vocalist of this special lineup, consisting of him and Kuolemanlaakso members Laakso (vocals, guitar, keys), Tiera (drums), and Usva (bass). The album also features guest performances by Mikko Kotamäki (Kuolemanlaakso, Swallow the Sun), Helena Haaparanta (Crimfall, Valo), and Jaani Peuhu (Iconcrash). More...

Morkobot Posts New Video
Following the recent announcement that Italian noise metal trio MoRkObOt will release fifth LP, "GoRgo," through Supernatural Cat this September 16th, today an early premiere of the video for "Kogromot" comes online.
As with all Supernatural Cat outputs, the cover for MoRkObOt's "GoRgo" was designed courtesy of Malleus - a collective renowned for their intricate and surrealist art-noveau-esque visuals. The idea for the artwork was spawned from the sound of the album, with the punk undertones reminding the Malleus crew of the infamous colors used on the Sex Pistols' "Never Mind The Bollocks..." cover.
Further inspired by the album title itself - as "gorgo" translates to "vortex" -- a whirlpool effect was created, leading the unknowing spectator's eyes into the center of the pentagram. The end result is reminiscent of a dark hypnagogia, just like the psychedelic noise on the record.
Commented the MoRkObOt outfit: "The cover hit us really hard at first sight! We immediately felt like it was a great representation for the music in this album, a record that pushes our boundaries in many different directions. The contrasting, eye flashing, power colors and iconic figure melt together perfectly, direct and weird as we feel about the musical ingredients in 'GoRgO.'"

Paganizer, the Swedish death metal warmachine, emerges with new epic "On the Outskirts of Hades," which is a testament to the glory of the classic death metal style and its virility. The EP is due to drop on August 1st, with Transcending Obscurity Records commenting:
"Rogga Johansson and his main band are in best form. This is the most crushing output to come out Sweden in years. It showcases not just the exemplary songwriting skills of this great and experienced band but also its sheer muscle - it eats the newer ones raw and shits them out whole.
"Paganizer have never sounded better; each song is adrenaline-fused, laden with massive viking axe-hooks, earth-pounding percussion, and topped off with roars echoing down from Valhalla. Along with Affliction Gate's EP, this one will go down as one of the mightiest death metal EPs to be released this year."
