Tool - the band that will hands down never release a new album no matter how many times it gets teased with Instagram and Facebook posts over the years - is set to perform at Voodoo Fest in New Orleans this fall.

The festival takes place from October 28th - 30th, 2016 and ticketing information can be found at this location. Tool also issued this statement:

"Prepare to be astounded as Tool bring their critically acclaimed live performance and elaborate production values to Voodoo Fest 2016 in New Orelans. Combine the sonorous and visual intensity of Tool live on stage against the spectral New Orleans tableau, add the vivid revelry of the Voodoo vibe, and you’ve got all the elements for an unforgettable festival experience. Tickets for this event go on-sale Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM CDT."

Wouldn't hold my breath on that one. 2036 maybe? Although I feel like that's perhaps on the optimistic side.

I'd like to see a new album late this year or in 2017, BUT...

I'm honestly not nearly as excited about a new Tool album as I had been for their previous ones. This delay and the reasons or excuses has really worn down my appreciation for them. I do respect that they hold themselves to such a high standard, but it seems like that is a double edged sword that also limits their creativity.
I never thought I'd be saying this about them, but the mystique from the intense privacy is making them come across as a bit pretentious. Don't get me wrong, I still think they are a great band. I'd put them in the top 25 of my favorite artists, whereas 10 years ago, I'd put them in the top 3. They have made some great music, but there are other bands out there who are releasing some stellar progressive music and doing it more frequently. (for example, BTBAM has released twice as much music in roughly half the time with consistently impressive results.)
This delay makes me re-evaluate the high esteem I've held them in. They've made some great music and some of the best concerts I've been to, but man, a 25 year career with only 4 albums and an EP? I think I may be moving on musically, or maybe my attention span is too short.
